It's nights like these I thank my lucky stars for the triple thinner.
Going into this game I would have said you are going to win zero percent of the games you give up 5 Power Play goals in.
Turns out I was right about that.

I thought they looked different than last year in the beginning of the game. They were winning battles and were fast and moving the puck. Then they fell behind and looked like they threw in the towel and started doing the same crap as last year....the circling, not crashing the net, not trying as hard as the other team, yadda yaddda.
The lack of heart and grit is concerning because this rediculousness should have been fixed already and these kids should have some fricking pride when they play for the Badgers, or any team for that matter. The team is going to lose some games but to have that kind of effort is pathetic. And it's why we turned the channel to watch volleyball.

To be fair, after the 5 & Game on Baker (and the 5x3 and 5x4) to start the game which also scrambled all the lines (None of these guys have played yet this year with anybody but their regular line mates) I still thought the boys were mostly getting the best of the 5x5 play, what little there was. The Ess penalty early in the second and the ensuing 4th goal just did them in though. It was over right there.

I have never seen a 5 for grabbing the facemask before. The dude he yanked on tried to remove his head by snapping it off his neck, I thought that could have been 5 or a double minor, it was pretty egregious. Berry did seem mega slow across the crease on that one goal in the 1st period and the 3rd goal was soft, it wasn't even a cookie shot. The penalties really did them in flow-wise as well and losing Baker screwed up 2 lines, so that would make them look disjointed.

I guess what I'm tired of is my belief is that I think we can get back to it. It's something that should have sunk in years ago, but we should all finally accept. We're a team with a history of greatness. And at this point, that's what we've got. And for now, we'll have to be OK with that.

I don't agree at all. They made us look like we were on the penalty kill 5x5. Effort was pathetic. Even captain Tische lacked effort at times.

Berry was ok, but Bill Brophy could have been in goal tonight, that wasn't the thing either way. Matt was real solid, so Kudos to him.
Losing Baker so early really screwed up all the lines. Seamus and Achan were double shifting almost the whole game with a few other guys thrown in, guys are chasing on the PK all night, chasing the puck all night because their down 2 early. It's not a recipe for a good looking game anyway. And it wasn't.

Losing one player doesn’t (or shouldn’t) derail a Wisconsin team that SHOULD beat MTU. If that’s all it takes to lose 6-2 to Tech then UW is in dire straights.

Agreed. It takes a real effort not only with coaches but with the admin as well.
The admin made the choice we begged of them for years with coaches but now the staff needs to step up and the admin needs to assist them with promoting the **** game.
...football needs 0 promotion. For Christ sake Herbstreit (tOsu alum) said on ESPN he’d advise his kids to play for Chryst. What the hell more promotion do they need?

It's hockey. It's a game of momentum and having the puck and wearing the other guy down and making plays on special teams. 5x5 it was a 1-1 game.
They may play awful all year, I have no idea, but it's hardly jumping off a bridge time five games into the season. This wasn't even the biggest B1G loss to a WCHA team on the night.

I think it’s a game of talent, effort and coaching.
Effort sucked tonight. Coaching? Well, the penalty kill is terrible, the goaltending is suspect and to be honest there are upperclassmen who haven’t improved a bit in the last two years.
3-2, it’s early i know but I don’t have 3-2 expectations after 23 years of mediocrity or even after 5. This team needs to get to the BC level I pointed out earlier. The Bob Johnson level. York proves it still can happen.
If they don’t make the tourney this year, Alvarez should be asking serious questions of Granato and Oz.
And to echo earlier sentiments, i’m also not sold on Strobel. Great player but not sure about him as an assistant yet.

I think it’s much too early for a lot of things. We still have players that Eaves recruited on the team.
Also, first 5 games...

2009-10: 2-2-1
I don’t know about you guys but I wasn’t expecting a really good team this year. Probably going to be a bubble team at best. Anything better is gravy. Anything less is disappointment. Next year expectations rise.
And ffs they need to get some right handed players. 5/6 starting dmen are left handed. Also, they had Weissbach on the left wall for the power play. Idk about you guys but I believe he played right wall prior to Wisconsin and he’s more of a shooter than a distributor, yet they have him in the distributor spot.

I said earlier that I thought a couple games over .500 would put us in the tournament and be a really good year for this young group. Not going to panic until that gets out of reach. Then I'll panic!
Not a must win tonight, but it's almost one for PWR and to get a little good mojo going.
