Wisconsin Hockey 20-21 Give Us A Reason To Believe

On the Brightside… they did look pretty good the first few games with a full roster.

The short bench is a killer right now, but you can still see the “compete” in the guys out there. You got to think something positive is going to come out these crazy lines and special teams later in the season.

Also, I love the camera angle at Value City. It gives you a bigger picture of the ice, almost like you are there.

Speaking of being there, does anyone else object to the OSU bench barking out false infractions all game long? They were vocal on each Badger entry or anytime the puck got within two feet of coming out. It reminds me of the NA3HL games I’ve been to.

Doesn't matter how good you play in the 2nd and 3rd when you lay a complete goose egg in the first. After last weeks whooping, you think they would have some fire out of the gate last night. Nope took 0-4 deficit for them to wake up. Ridiculous regardless of the quantity of players. So infuriating.

I saw this posted at Buckyville: "Last night OSU put out a line up that had 2, TWO NHL draft picks in the line up. Wisconsin, even in it's roster depleted state, put out 9 NHL draft picks last night, NINE. I put this out on twitter last night when Milewski posted the line ups. This seems like the days when Woog would throw 15-18 NHL picks out on the ice and finish 5th in the WCHA."

Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

They had a full roster against Michigan (other than Holloway).....

They were doing the barking? Pretty ridiculous.

The camera angle was good, like you are at the first row 2nd tier at the KC. I wish there were replays.

And Granato will get a pass this year due to Covid.....

Yup. Or they will finish 1 game over .500 and he will say we are finally turning the corner. He

I haven't watched a game this year and was thinking about watching the game tonight. But then I thought I'd rather not get p*ssed off on a Friday night.

I thought the same thing when I happened to look at the results last night. The season is a joke.

Yeah, it’s tough to muster any interest in Wisconsin hockey anymore. The glory days are so far gone they seem like childhood memories...well, I guess college to since the glory days ended in 94-95.

the play of this team is so enigmatic it’s hard to believe ANY of these players are highly regarded.

they make the Zent, Schier, Tucker, Macdonald, Moore, Plante, Rafalski 92 team look like completely selfless in comparison.

Well they dug deep and got a nice win with a lot of adversity. They pulled together and gutted it out. Give them credit where credit is due.....

I was completely wrong. I thought in the 5th and 6th periods of the series they would get tired legs, and that would lead to bad penalties, odd man rushes. bad coverage and a sad ending. I saw no signs of tired legs late in the game. Yes OSU turned up the wick in the 3rd as one would expect, but tired legs did *not* assist OSU. What a great game. The PP was money with 2 tic tac toe beauties (I don't think you will see a better ppg all year in the ncaa than than the second one. Cole and Jack had to be reading each other's minds), they killed a 5 minute and Rowe was CRAZY good in the net. No bad D zone play. Linus was more responsible with his passes. :) They played 5 good periods of hockey on the weekend. I am still in shock considering I had low expectations for the game based on what happened last weekend against a lesser opponent, but hey I am going to enjoy the win with an extra bounce in my step. It makes the cancellation of the women's titanic clash with the rodents a bit less hurtful as well.

So we close out the season part 1 with games at 5 and 3 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. I suppose I should not complain about the stupid start times, at least there is hockey to be had. No CC either for these games. It's going to be interesting. I really dislike the snooze-o-matic style of hockey Cole has MSU play, unless in the past that is only what the talent level could produce.

No. Apparently, we don't. Bummed to have the series postponed. But pleased to know that the rescheduled series will now have CC and DH.

Per Todd: Positive COVID-19 test within Badgers men's hockey team postpones series at Michigan State

Hard to believe the World Juniors won't be affected, but hopefully the bubble will work. (I know the USA team has already been adjusted due to them not letting the COVID-positive BU players to participate.) Guess we'll get back to Badger Hockey in the New Year (finger's crossed). Stay safe everyone and have a good holiday.

The procedure for what games are cancelled and which ones aren't is absolutely baffling to try and figure out.

Wisconsin Hockey 20-21: Try to look away from the train wreck.

I can only imagine (I have no actual knowledge, but I love speculating on the internet) that this is different than the positive COVID test last week because in that one they were able to "justify" close contacts as the positive player's roommates. This recent positive came in the middle of a roadtrip with long bus rides, etc, and I am guessing that means that everyone on the trip becomes a close contact who now needs to quarantine and monitor. Again, a complete guess, but would potentially explain the difference. (Yes, since whole teams play full games and practice without masks, I don't understand how an entire team isn't a "close contact" with every positive case, but we now have a month off, so speculating is all I've got.)

No. Apparently, we don't.

And WI would have got 3 players back who were exposed but tested negative! Man this is crazy. At least the last game I saw was an awesome game so I'm carrying that high all the way through the rest of 2020. I'd recommend to anyone who didn't see the game to watch it.

Agreed. They played so well - a full team effort despite being woefully depleted. Honestly, if not for the duck egg in the first on Thursday, they played that way for the next five periods of the series. That makes losing the momentum into this series that much more frustrating.

But, frustrations aside, I understand the decision by UW and MSU, which sounds like a joint one. We are quickly learning how quickly a single incident can be so much worse. And, at least we got to watch a few series. The poor women's program never even got their skates wet before having the rug pulled out.

Long term thinking, it's not going to get any easier to get games to work for the rest of the season. I just think the university setting is a covid breeding ground that cannot be controlled (not like we're controlling it at all in any setting other than pure bubbles anyway).

No doubt. This was the Badgers best chance - games when the majority of kids had come home for the semester after Thanksgiving. After Christmas they all come back and all bets are off. I think the NCHC waiting for Thanksgiving and playing in a bubble in Omaha was the best approach. That is just so hard to do in college, but it seems like the only way this can actually happen safely with college populations, travelling and all of the other complications.

So I guess UW has a goaltending controversy, eh? I'd still come back with the Robster in game 1 back and go with Rowe game 2 just to see how both got through the loooong layoff.
