Wisconsin Hockey 20-21 Give Us A Reason To Believe

I think Beydoun and Rowe have really shined with the blue liners playing as a unit this year. Their PK has been a ton better too. Team play is much much better. I cant even really think of many times the tenders have been hung out to dry by the D this year. It was an every game type situation multiple times a game last yr bc of the pressure to score with top end talent. Id give it 75/25 blue liners to tending split on improvement...maybe even 80/20. Most notable item Ive seen on tending that has improved is the discipline in the crease to not flail around and knowing where the puck is/visibility.

Congrats to both UW hockey teams. I believe we all expected the result for the ladies, but not the gentlemen; I sure didn't. Cole was a different player. The 'tendies are impressive. Kehrer, did we expect this? Great finish but it totally sucks ass that we couldn't take in the games, although I admit I've been VERY red-assed the past few years. We'll see how they finish. No expectations.

On a side note, I watched and heard a ton of Badgers today. K'Andre, Craig Smith, Trent Frederic, Wyatt Kalynuk played today!, there was a Ben Street mention, McDonagh, Schultz, Elliott. It was one of those days on TV and radio where Badgers kept coming up.

Firing up the grill to fix my helping of crow. After last year I was very critical of Cole and wanted him to go. He turned things around and upped his game. As much as his scoring drove the team, his defensive improvement was most impressive. Also, I'll take a Kehrer over Miller or Kalynuk every day of the week. That guy is really good. Peltonen really grew throughout the year. No letting up now. Win 'em all.

I am right there with you. He has gotten better on the defensive side, not great, but better and I am glad he came back. Agree with you on the D as well.

Either TG was trying to get him the empty net Hatty or his defense is that trusted that he was on the ice for the final shift in a must win game for a title.

WI could have a Hobey and PK winner in the same year. eyes popping out of head emoji

Caufield certainly had a hatty in his hand...remember that slapshot from 15ft out that he blew by the MSU goalie?! I swear there was a vapor trail behind it. That thing hit the crossbar so damn hard it sounded like the bell of Notre Dame Cathedrel. 1/2in lower and the hatty was his.

Was a great play by Holloway with the time running off to just eat it in the corner. If there was more time I wouldnt have liked that move bc scrums in the corner always leave a guy open on the far side, especially in an extra skater play. But good on him for knowing time and situation to just snuff the puck.

Something really seemed out of sorts for the TBP line against MSU. Maybe it was how MSU was playing N zone D, but they just didn't get much going as a unit in the O zone. I thought the 3rd and 4th lines were perhaps the best lines, especially in game 1.

An absolutely bonkers possibility. Especially considering our Hobey prospects as of late.

Gotta love how this team might rely on the first line on the score sheet, but all 4 lines have done their job. Reminds me of 2006 in that way.

There are definitely good players throughout the entire team. Glad to see that it actually came together this year.

Still annoyed that Elliott didn't win the Hobey in '06 though.

That just makes me angry. And then that reminds me of ARD losing out to Carpenter whose award was really a lifetime achievement award. What a crock.

But let's be positive! I saw the boys get the trophy yesterday, that really hits home the accomplishment.

I may be on jury duty Monday....I think I will be out of court by 3:30, but the dvr will save me.

Wow. It takes the rodents to OT against MSU to win. Just a great example of getting the bye game helps you avoid a yucky loss in single elimination.

As far as time of the game, not much one can do. Big10 wants Michigan v Minnesota in prime time based on game starts yesterday, and it most likely will draw a bigger viewing audience. The 1630 (EST) start time is on TV. Can't complain much. Back in the WCHA days, most of the first rounds weren't even on TV, only the Final Five, and usually on the regional FSNs.

As for the game this afternoon...have to limit possession and SOGs for PSU just bc they play the probability game and shoot A LOT. Back checking and stick play will be a huge deal. I don't envision WI pinching with the blue liners at all because PSU likes to cheat and play the transition game so aggressively. ND was burned multiple times yesterday by that. PSU purposefully puts their weakside Fs out of position to increase chances of breakout passes from the D zone. Can't allow that but at the same time take advantage in the low slot by the circles where opportunities will exist.

Come on. They couldn't do 5 pm and 8 pm games? They've got 1.5 hours of BS between the games.

It' s most likely two difft broadcast teams so set up and prep for the 2nd game will be for a difft crew. Plus they have post and pregame hockey talk on the network (hr total). Also they get a half hr for warmups and approx 30mins to prep the surface before the next game (once for warmups, once after warmups). so really its about a half hr of actual time filler. Im om with that.

I enjoy just the vis for hockey. Now that Big10 bball tourney is over there is actual focus on hockey for a cple days. And 5 and 8 central? that will preclude the mich fans. No one wants to start a hockey game at 9pm east coast on a weekday. My two cents.

I do stand corrected on broadcast teams. Same for each of the semis. But it is a difft team than the quarters.

Think that's the main driver is prep for the broadcast team to switch games and the surface/warmups/surface routine.

I actually like the weekend format but wish it would have been Thurs, Fri, Sat, with a Mon champ in prime time. But we were boxed in with big10 bball tourney. thurs through sat.

Maybe once Illinois pulls the trigger on their team we will be able to have a Final Five-ish single location tourney (Chicago would be awesome for that). I think the Big10 finally has their footing under them. Out of the gate it hurt that Wisconsin was so downtrodden and no one knew enough about PSU to care...Notre Dame joining and Wisconsin getting back to what we expect helps tremendously with the rep.

I think there is going to be another round of realignment. Miami/Western Mi cant compete in the NCHC on a consistent basis and their recruiting footprints are so difft than that of the Sioux, UMD, St. Cloud and Denver. The Miami/W Mi fanbases...wouldnt even travel. Id like to see them head back to the CCHA and the NCHC pick up Mankato/Bemidji. Just spitballing.

Not their best game. Holloway had a bug up his a** all game until he finally disqualified himself. He seemed more interested in getting a pound of flesh than making a good pass or getting a goal. They'll need a better effort tomorrow. Maybe Rodents and Weasels can play a death match for a couple of OTs.
