Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Not sure where you heard that, but that can't be correct. Pretty sure you could basically redshirt as many players as you want just as long you could field a team.

I remember this from when Ben Street was looking at the medical redshirt, Baggot or someone mentioned that a team can have one medical RS and one "regular" RS in any given season.

If I'm wrong, then my opinion is born out of memory of reading this information.

Anyone out there actually know 100% what the answer is?

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

So in the scrimmage last week Bennett gave up 6 goals, Gunner gave up 0. Advantage Gunner.

Bomber has a hattrick, which I will say in one way is a suprise, but yet Bennett was giving up rebounds and Bomber is a net crasher, so that fits his m-o, assuming he scored a couple on the rebound.

Wisonsin Hockey: Is it Friday yet?

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Beware, thats what we thought about Kyle Turris in Madison, thats working out well???...

No... that's what you thought about Kyle Turris. I never drank the Turris Kool-Aid and thought he'd be just another WCHA forward. Schroeder is pretty special. Let's put it this way... he's the first Gopher I've ever gone into an NHL Draft hoping my team would draft.

The blue line talent is undeniable

...unless you're Harley

I love you man.

I.... love you too?

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

I noticed skille once again starting the season in Rockford, what is going on with that guy... is he going to be as big of an NHL flop as turris???? Maybe its the organizations but i find it hard to believe he can't make the team with both Hossa and Burish out...

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

No posts about Jeff Sanger yet?

I think this is very good news since we had NO goalie coach. Jeff, as we all know, is a Madison kid who had a very successful career in Colorado Springs. He is a Coach Howard disciple who worked many of Howie's summer schools. I'm sure he picked up some new "styles" to add to the Howard method.

Bennett & Gudmandson have got to be elated.

Last week I e-mailed a good friend who lives in Chicagoland -- a Badgerhawk fan -- he has yet to respond. I asked him what his opinion is on what happened. I'll pass on any info when I receive a reply.

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Skille looked really good early in camp for the Hawks. He then got nicked up (lower body injury) and did not look nearly as good after that. Burish probably has nothing to do with Skille as one is a 4th liner and the other is one you hope for significantly more in his career (2nd/3rd liner). Skille is much better served as a 1st liner in the AHL playing critical minutes then skating 2 shifts a period as a 4th liner in Chicago. I think the thing that really has been a roadblock for Skille is that the Hawks have some tremendous depth at forward (even without Hossa and Burish). It's not like he can't make the parent club on a non-playoff team with a bunch of gapping holes up front. The good news for Skille is in the short term guys always get hurt in pro hockey so he'll likely get some chances this year and in the long term the Hawks will likely need to replace some veteran forwards next year as the cap will likely create a bit of turnover.

I'm going with your post over the explanation on the phone I just got. (It mentioned attitude and drive to be an impact player...usual Chicago response when one doesn't know a sport). Bull ****. Knowing the kid as I do, I don't believe a ****ing word of it. I agree 100% regarding playing maybe 3 or 4 minutes per NHL game compared to a regular shift in the AHL. Good post!

Someone didn't look back far enough....I was all over it. ;) Great to know he worked with Howie in his camps. Plus I bet he attended camps as well growing up in Madtown. Baggot ought to write a nice article on this, not just a blurb.

Is it Friday yet!?! I am so ready to see some hockey.

I've heard general rumbles about the Hawks just not being happy with his development. Going along with it is the predictable "change of scenery" talk. With their young forward depth I could see them making him part of a trade with a team willing to part with a veteran defenseman or whatever else the Hawks feel they need.

:o

Was that the "Sieve" chant I was hearing in the background at the big Hefty Bag during the Packer game last night or was I just dreaming about hockey?

If there not going to give the kid a chance at the NHL level, which means more then a game here and a game there then they should just trade him. There are plenty of teams that come to mind that could use him now. I think he has got all the seasoning in the AHL he needs, now he needs quality NHL min. Its obvious the blackhawks put Kane and Toews ahead of him and gave them a shot at min. right away and I don't think those two have any more ability then skille has, they were just givin the min. in the NHL right away.

Teams like Carolina, Atlanta, Dallas, Florida all could use someone like him, even minnesota could use him. If chicago isn't going to give him a shot with the big club after 2 full years in the AHL then maybe they should just trade him away while they can still get something for him. They wait and keep him in the AHL another year and other teams are going to start to wonder whats wrong with him...

I know we're getting away from the topic but, are you serious? I like "Skillful" a lot but he's not a Toews or Kane....yet.

how do we know, he hasn't been given a fair shot in the NHL to see what he can do, you are limited to only so much in the AHL because you don't have the high level of talent around you. He has showed more then enough in the AHL to be given a fair shot in the NHL but Chicago has not given that to him.... Talent wise he is up there with Toews, Kane, Kessel, exc. he just has never had the reps in the NHL with the talent around him to show it...

Jack is one of my favoirtes too, but there is no way I can agree w/ this either. Minutes have nothing to do w/ it. Rockford has been pretty decent the last few seasons, and while Jack played well, he didn't blow the Hawks away w/ his play either. Getting first line minutes in the AHL means you should show the parent club something to get you on their roster.

Toews and Kane immediately staked claims, by their level of play, that they belonged in the NHL. I don't think Skille has done that yet, and he's had some chances in the NHL, more than a game or two.

The cupboard is full in Chicago and there aren't just minutes for the Hawks to test on Skille, he needs to do things when given the chance to earn more of it.

DOOD!

Toews can stick handle in a phone booth, and Skille can't do that. Kane also is a GREAT playmaker. Skille is more of a classic powerforward like LeClair.

No comparison between the first two and Skille. so you really can't argue one over the other. way different skill sets here.

Child, please!

That is some of the worst homerism I've seen in a long time. Skille hasn't exactly been setting the AHL on fire which is what he'd need to be doing to move up to the Hawks.

As much as I wish it were true, he's nowhere near as good as Kessel and both Toews and Kane are WAY out of his league. He's not even as good as Bolland or Versteeg and since he really isn't a very physical player he can't even get on the 4th line. As another poster said, the Hawks just don't have any minutes for him because they have guys who can do what Jack can do, only better.

If he hadn't scored that goal against Cornell, we'd barely think about him as he didn't exactly set the NCAA on fire either. He was a good player here, but far from great.

I'm pulling for him, but to blame the Hawks is way off base. He was a top 10 pick. Don't you think that the Hawks want to show a return on their investment? Nobody down there wants Jack to turn out to be a bust, but sometimes it happens.

I'm starting to believe that his NHL future lies outside of Chicago. Unfortunately, coz I'm a huge Hawks fan and obviously a Badger fan too.

I really thought he'd make the Hawks out of camp this year, but there isn't anyone on the roster that I believe he should replace, so I'm good with it.

BTW, watching the Kings and Sharks and Drewiske is getting good minutes. I always liked him and am glad to see him make it. Heatley and Pavelski playing too!
