Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

The UW ticket office just released a small number of tickets. Presumably whatever Syracuse didn't use from their allotment.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Touchdown without extra point.

I always am concerned in these types of games if it gets out of the 2nd period tied, will the UW players start to press, and the system then breaks down and that leads to sloppy play and penalties, which can lead to bad things. This team is locked in and very experienced, so I doubt that will happen.

If you *really* want to find something to worry about, Syracuse played a different goalie during the CHA tournament than played at LaBahn back in December (though the new goalie's - Ady Cohen - GAA and save percent aren't all that much better than the old one's - Maddi Welch), and there is a center (?) - Savannah Rennie - who missed about half the season (injury?) and was out for the UW series. But in the half-season she has played, she's only had two goal, five assists. So....

Some teams improve, some don’t. I would not expect a 9-1 game. The Syracuse team I watched play last weekend looked good. They showed no quit in their game and gave RM fits for three periods.

We're talking Bob Morris, not Minnesota, not Clarkson, not NE, we're talking Bob Morris.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Let’s hope “they are what we thought they are”...

Nice job picking up on where I was going with that. :) Even if they aren't who we think they are we are who we are and that should be enough.

It's a great day for hockey!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Pregame nerves setting in. Last year I was super nervous with the rodents coming to town, what a clash of Titans in the quarters.

Let's go RED! On Wisconsin!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Wisconsin and Syracuse are scoreless after one, but it's been all Wisconsin so far.

Well that was one of the least competitive games I have seen in awhile. I know the CHA winner gets an auto-bid but that was terrible.

You think that was bad, you should have seen the games back in December. Syracuse was much improved today; better on faceoffs, poking sticks, etc. etc

Wasn't the final score ultimately the same? I'm not sure that UM last year was all that much better than Syracuse today. At least the Orange stayed in the game longer.

In other news, you Badgers fans were right: Princeton does have a more talented team than you guys. That is what you said, right? ;)

Going INTO the MN game last year I was nervous. UW completely controlled the game, which was a surprise since MN beat them one week earlier. I recall being amazed that when MN needed to pus hard to stay in the game they could muster little offense.

Yeah, I said Princeton had more talent than UW...not. They played a very competitive series and they kinda scared me a bit.

The first period Cuse played great D zone coverage and kept everything wide. UW had minimal great chances. They generated the best chance of the period on a kinds breakaway, but Soup stoned them. As the 2nd period went on, they slowly collapsed in the D zone and UW was having great chance after great chance in the 2nd period. They were gassed. The 3rd was more of the same. Their goalie was impressive, she did not play the in earlier series. After UW put up 2 the game was over. They had no energy left. UW had awesome energy the whole game. The 4th line I don't recall saw the ice, although he spotted Cogan in the upper lines once and awhile as she recovers from her injury. Schneider continues to impress on the 3rd line. What a great thing to see as she bided her time and is making the most of it.

Pankowski is just a beast right now. It's like she's willing this team to win at this point. It's lifting the whole team.

The officials were fine in the 1st period, then horrible in the 2nd. They refused to call 3 blatant trips against Cuse, then made a BS call on Clark. It was like they were trying to keep Cuse in the game. It was crazy.

Awesome to have the Sr's skate around the rink and wave bye to the fans. A very touching moment.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Clarkson is top heavy in scoring and UW has had really good success Sauve in the past, so shut down 1 line and beat a goalie you've beaten before, sounds doable. Their D do put up a lot of points, so seeing how that affect's UW's D zone and the breakout will be interesting. Perhaps UW will get some juicy odd player rushes if the Clarkson D like to take chances. I have to think UW's 2nd and 3rd lines are matchup advantages.

If you look at video of Pankowski's second goal, besides the wonderful pass by Clark to create all that time-and-space, (I hate to pick on someone, but...) #7 for Syracuse - Polaski - just stops moving and lets Pankowski skate away from her and into the open space to receive the pass. Yeah, #7 must have been gassed, took a moment 'off' at just the wrong moment, and it cost her.

I remember thinking at some point early on in the year that Pankowski was looking to pass too much and too often, and maybe it was a 'bad habit' she developed on the pre-Olympics team, where her best chance to make the team might have been feeding players like Knight and Decker, et al.

She ain't looking to pass much right now.

The last three times that you've played against her, you've scored four goals on 110 shots. She gave up 1 goal in 136 minutes of NCAA play last year, and she allowed one goal in 74 minutes on Saturday. I'm not sure that's where I'd look in order to feel confident about Friday. Your more likely option is to hope Campbell has a better semifinal than she had last year.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Just from the factor that Clarkson seems to have Wisconsin's number right now made it seem like bc would have been a more favorable matchup for Wisconsin.

As for Clarkson as the matchup? bc was able cause Clarkson fits with their speed and depth and Wisconsin has more of it than bc. Plus bc was able to pretty effectively shut down Clarkson's first line. Wisconsin should be even better at that than bc.

I look at the other games where they did well against her, gotta keep the positives flowing. You do make a good point about her play last weekend. I thought goaltending might be UW's weakest spot, but Soup has been brilliant for weeks now.

Thanks for the analysis of the Clarkson/bc game.
