Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Once again, the call was interference. Embellishment has nothing to do with it. The penalty is that Rolfes got in Potomak's way, and occurred the instant contact was made, without regard for what happened after that. I think it was a marginal call, as I don't think Rolfes slid over very much to obstruct, and certainly paled to the instance a few minutes later when Potomak got run over going around the defender with no call. And, I have no trouble believing that there would have been no call if she doesn't go down, but that shouldn't have mattered.

The rodent skates into Rolfes, jumps, tries to grab her head and falls down. She interfered with Rolfes.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

As I also said before, you pretty clearly don't understand the interference rule.

Rolfes maintained her speed and lane, she got 2 of the 3 right. :) The rodent went into Rolfes, slowed down when she ran into her and wasn't trying to play the puck either. She got all 3 wrong.

Rolfes drifts to her left, though she doesn't take a stride. This is easier to see from the live shot; the four second replay linked in this thread is not only from a worse angle, but it starts after the important action has taken place. Live, this happened right in front of me and I was on the perfect angle to dee the drift. And whether Potomak is playing the puck is as irrelevant as whether she goes down; indeed, if she is playing the puck then it cannot, by definition, be interference.

Wisconsin gets away with this sort of play constantly. It's one of the reasons they give up so few transition chances. So, I can see why a Badger fan would be confused when they are called for it.

I did not post this to be visceral or to start a red vs moron;) and gold battle, I found it rather funny. But since you decided to put your blinders on let me agree to disagree. I went back and watched all angles. The "short" video shows everything. She never engaged her before the blue line, she maintained speed and played the puck twice. The rules are the same for boys and girls hockey with the exception of checking. If this was called in boys hockey the box would be full. If anything should have been called it should have been embellishment or a figure 4 headlock. At a minimum, coincidentals, one for embellishment and one for refusing to dance.

You started out saying Wisconsin's penalty should have been a major, and now you're saying the call should have been on Minn?!?

Umm... Okay...

Game's over, guys and gals. Yes, the Gophers got hosed by the officials, but it's time to move on. :)

In general, I find that the WCHA Tourney is a pretty easy one for teams to hit the reset button if they are advancing to the NCAAs regardless. The classic beef-with-officials cases that I can remember both happened to Wisconsin: 2005 when they were whistled for back-to-back penalties in the final seconds of regulation after tying with two EA goals in the final minute; and 2008 when the linesmen just looked at each other and didn't call an obvious icing that led directly to UMD's winning goal in OT. I think that they were PO'ed in both cases, but by the next day, they had an NCAA bracket to worry about and bigger fish to fry.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Keep an eye on Craigslist-Madison. I have bought football tickets, and the occasional basketball and men's hockey tickets there, and never had any problem. Women's hockey tickets are certainly not as likely to show up there, but as you can see, they have shown up there a couple times this season for other games.

Tim, there's a pair of tickets on CraigsList today, $20 apiece (!). Don't know if you're interested at that price, and the posting doesn't mention where the seats are, etc.

And now there's a set of four, essentially at face value; section 5 row 9 (top row, I think).

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

I took the original comment as a bad attempt at humor.

it was a strange play, clearly it was interference, there was a similar play involving AP the previous home series where they gave coincidental minors, in that case it looked to me like the ref was going to let the original infraction go but decided he needed to send them both to the sin bin

IMO, the WI/MN game was better called than the UMD/MN game, I wish I was able to replay the game, at one point in the second period (I believe it was) where a UMD player checked a Gopher into the boards who was carrying the puck, no call

I saw Pannek talking to the ref who was shaking his head,
perhaps trying to refocus his eyes ?

so what's the over under on the 1/4 final?
WI by a touchdown?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Thanks for the info. I will do some fishing perhaps.

Tim, Sorry I was only able to find one ticket, a person I work with daughter decided she would rather go to a friends house instead of the game with her parents. I told him I need 2 if not 3. I think he found a taker today.

Thanks for the attempts to you and Robert. I did end up buying the 2 tickets Robert found on craigslist. I figured paying double face was a small price to pay for me screwing up. It's the last game of the year at home. It's must a see.

Touchdown without extra point.

I always am concerned in these types of games if it gets out of the 2nd period tied, will the UW players start to press, and the system then breaks down and that leads to sloppy play and penalties, which can lead to bad things. This team is locked in and very experienced, so I doubt that will happen.
