Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Nobody is making things up, my comment was and still is that a kid on the 4th line of todays teams has the talent to be on 1 or 2 15 years ago.

This is true. UW just celebrated the 10 yr anniversary of the 2006 championship team and one of the 06 forwards when interviewed said she doesn't think she would have made the the 2016 team with her 2006 talent, that's how much the talent has increased over the last 10 years.

Per UW, tomorrow's game is already sold out. Pretty sure that's the first time they've sold out a game against Mankato. Have to believe Sunday will be also, especially if a chance to win the conference outright.

Shoulda built a bigger arena.

P.S. Go Mavs! :)

I remember that team, they were very good, best in the nation that year. The player was right though.

Had it designed and everything. Due to budget cuts/other issues, a lot was stripped out including over 2,000 seats if I remember correctly. Not sure how they would expand now.

A real shame. It could have been a great venue in the rotation for the FF.

there should be porta potties outside with signs warning fans to use 'em

it's too bad, because it's a really nice place for a hockey game

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Solid, workman-like 4-0 win for the Badgers. Mankato doesn't look like a 0-22-3 team. They played hard for all 60 minutes.

The Wellhausen goal showcased her speed and was nice seeing her finish that breakaway.

Had an extra ticket and was able to sell it within 30 seconds right outside LaBahn. Was nice to see a sellout and the band for a non-marquee game.

Needless to say, big game tomorrow. Hopefully the incoming snow won't prevent another big crowd. Should be fun.

UW web site says Sunday is now a sell-out. And one of my band member neighbors told me that the band will be there for Sunday's game.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Saturday.....Shocked the band was at the game; loved it. Complete domination by UW over all 3 periods, though all the goals were scored by players not the big 3. The crowd was big but a little flat.

Sunday.....UW got off to a slow start, shots were like 8 to 5 in the 1st. MSU had 2 pp's, there was a 4 on 4 and I think the Sr. day deal got them off kilter. MSU got as pp goal, a longer shot from the halfboard that somehow eluded ARD, easily the longest shot I have seen her allow, maybe she was screened? At that point it was 1-1 and I will admit I was a tad worried after seeing the first period. Then in the 2nd UW got a few pp's and popped one and had 1 disallowed due to a high stick. Shots were 18-5 in the 2nd period, so I felt pretty confident. The 3rd period was awesome. UW just unloaded on them scoring 6. I do enjoy a good old butt whipping. What a great way to crown the champs with the crowd whipped into a frenzy. It was really cool they presented the trophy after the game, I had never got to witness that before.

When MJ started Walters, I was also worried, but she had worked hard for 4 years and it was nice to see her get the start in Sr. day. I sure felt better then ARD game into the game. I would have hated to not win this game and go to rodentsota next week and have to win one for sure. Now they can go there loose and free as can be and make a statement.

Miller had some sort of leg controlling brace with crutches, she must have had surgery since she was walking around the previous few weeks but not dressing. Rolfes did come out with full gear for the trophy/pics, though I doubt she'll get back. I wonder of she could use a medical redshirt this year, she only played 10 games.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Unfortunately, not quite a wash. UND won the shootout over UM and lost it to UW, which is what allowed the Badgers to clinch yesterday.

Awesome, love those Whoiux! Not really, just 2 weekends a year.

Pleasantly surprised that the band was there for both games this weekend. Think they were at more regular season games in 2016 alone than the first 3+ years combined. Bodes well for the future of them being there on a more regular basis.

Was initially surprised by Walters getting the start, not knowing Desbiens was coming in after 5 minutes or so. With a WCHA title on the line, seemed an odd choice. After the fact, good for her getting the start.

Seemed like they were pressing early on yesterday. The Mankato goal was definitely a wake-up call. The late second period goal seemed to be a relief to players and fans alike. Mankato played a solid 5 periods this weekend, but clearly ran out of gas in the 3rd. Badgers were relentless and put up a program record 31 shots on goal in the 3rd.

You could tell the WCHA championship meant a lot, especially to the seniors. Was glad to see them be able to celebrate in front of the home fans.

The program continues to attract casual hockey fans. Was cool to sit next to a couple (Badger men's hockey fans) that was taking in their first women's game. They were surprised that the skill level was higher than they thought it would be and couldn't believe that they were selling out games (they had to buy tickets "off the street"). With the men's program struggling, I think there is a slow stream of fans willing to check out what the women's team is all about.

Agreed about the Wellhausen goal.. She blew by the defense like they were standing still.. Ever since Coach Johnson changed the lines around a few weeks ago she seems to have the puck on her stick more. She is one of the fastest players in the WCHA and getting the puck to her when she is moving is the key. That line (Sowchuck, Shaver, Wellhausen) is a very formidable 3rd line for the Badgers and has been one of the teams best over the last 5-6 games.. Cogen fits in well with Pankowski and Clark as well! A little tweaking in the line up towards the end of the season keeps everyone on their toes!
