Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

It must suck to allow only 1 goal and have your gaa go up, but I doubt goalies actually pay attention to the goalie stats. I read the goal was a backdoor 2 on 1, so it reads that ARD didn't really have a chance on that one. Too bad the D that was back didn't prevent the backdoor pass, that's your specific job in that instance.

Let's keep piling the points up and win the league title gals, that the goal.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Sunday will not only be Senior Day, but the Badgers could be playing to clinch the WCHA title.

Get your tickets now!

Goal 1 is very close at hand. Finish it off next weekend.

The scoring touch seems to be out of wack right now. MSU gave the rodents issues, it will be interesting to see how UW deals with them.

I’m curious if you really think there is a problem with a scoring touch, or rather that with the second time around, they know better how to defend. Also, the way games are going right now is how I expected given the high quality goal tending in the WCHA. I am more surprised that there was as much scoring as there was early in the year.

I think after giving it some thought and looking at the rodents' recent results that you are predominantly correct. The only tangible case against your theory is MJ has done some line juggling, which tells me he thinks there may be more to it. Beside the Kessel deal, have the rodents juggled lines recently? I think if UW or UM played an unfamiliar foe this week that wasn't BC or Q, they'd shred them.

it is easier (and probably smarter) to juggle lines than revamp your offense at this point in the season

only because of Brandt missing 4 games
even if Kessel hadn't rejoined the team, the lines may have changed, I guess we'll never know

This is all of a sudden a very interesting series. Conventional wisdom had the final series up at Ridder be for all the WCHA marbles (which it still could). Now all they have to do is sweep Mankato who is still winless in conference. On paper, it seems like a lock. However, they are seemingly playing decent hockey just no wins to show for it. Mulitple OT games and losing a pair of one-goal games to Minnesota a month ago (as was pointed out). If any team is due for a win, Mankato is it.

In addition, St. Cloud came in late last year and took a game. Also, two years ago this Mankato team came in and shockingly won Game 2 (3-0) in the opening round of the WCHA playoffs.

With those things in mind, I would like to believe that the Badgers will not take this series for granted. I'm not sure the offensive production should necessarily be considered a "problem", but is something to keep an eye on. I would rather see some issues with goal-scoring vs. having issues with the defense and/or goaltending.

I think this is a very solid point. Wisconsin (and Minnesota), if they need to, can depend on their defense and goaltending. They have had some very good competition within the league games, even lately with bottom half teams. Is that because they are struggling a bit. Maybe, but just as likely, is that the bottom half teams are making improvements, whether that is adjusting to coaching or just simply the players getting better.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

UW needs to take care of business this weekend and head west with the 7 pt lead in the standings. There is very little if any gap between the 2 teams and I could see either team sweeping. Frosty and MJ need to get to have a secret meeting to do as much as they can to avoid playing each other in the semi's. The meeting should not occur til after the next 2 BC/NE games, then we'll know where BC will finish.

Watching them play for 15-16 years the biggest change I have seen is that the worst player in the WCHA (whoever that is) would easily have been on the second line most places & first in too many. I don't think the great players are that much better but there are more of them & the average player much closer to them than they ever were. As a result D is getting much better. Scorers are harder to come by, there are not enough to go around but good players can play defensively and keep the game close.

Unless (and I don't know, don't follow recruiting, and have,'t checked) the other three are all going to be Gophers. ;-)

Actually only one. Others are to UMD and Princeton. Even though Wisconsin has success recruiting coast-to-coast, there's too much talent in the Twin Cities not to pluck select recruits every now and then.

I did not know Karley Sylvester was a former Ms. Minnesota winner in 2011. UW had no one from 2012-2014 in the Ms list. Shaver was on the top 10 list last year, though she didn't make the top 5. It's excellent to have 2 in the top 5. Other states/prov for next year are WI, TX, MI and ON (off the top of my head). The following year there is 1 player from the rodent state committed to UW, Bowlby, a D. Other states/prov for the following year are IL, WI, MI, NY, NS, which speaks to your coast to coastedness of MJ's recruiting.

Hahahahah. Have another beer. 25% of the teams in the WCHA have leading goal scorers from the cupcakes of Hockey East.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this was a west vs. east statement. I read this as the opinion was the "worst" player(s) from current WCHA teams would be second/first liners for any team (WCHA included) back 16 years ago. While I don't agree with that 100%, I understand the point that the quality of play in the women's game has gotten better across the board.

Work on your reading comprehension pal. I was comparing the players/reams from 10/15 years ago to those of today. Your butthurt must be really painful for it to have clouded your brain enough to misunderstand that. I'll call you a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhmbulance.

Still making stuff up. 15 years ago Minnesota and Wisconsin lost to the likes of Brown and Dartmouth. 10 years ago the bottom of the WCHA had plenty of non-conference losses and ties to average teams.

More butthurt ignoring the topic at hand. Unless reading is not your only problem and you think 15 years ago Brown could compete with today's team. Nobody is making things up, my comment was and still is that a kid on the 4th line of toadays teams has the talent to be on 1 or 2 15 years ago. Poor little butthurt you are the one that tried to drag east/west into it.
