Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Little surprised (and disappointed) that the UW website isn't better highlighting the Sunday game on BTN. There was an article about it in mid-September, but really nothing since.

Also, seems like there should be a direct link to single game ticket purchasing. If one the main women's hockey page, it looks like the only options are season tickets, group tickets and family packs. Maybe it's right in front of me and just missing it.

I've never been aware of a sporting event on live TV not being listed on the schedule. It is weird. Off to social media!

Coincidence or not, UW has updated schedule to show BTN on Sunday and now has a direct link to single game tix on the women's hockey main page.

Unfortunately, women's hockey is not showing up anywhere on their schedule. Volleyball and women's basketball seem to get full coverage (which is fine), but nothing for women's hockey. Simply unacceptable. To the best of my knowledge, band has not been to any regular season women's hockey game since the grand opening of LaBahn arena in the fall of 2012.

FU Lecrone. I emailed that jerk and his assistant the last 2 summers and last year during the season and NEVER a response. NEVER. Jason King told me they put in more requests for the band this year and it was up to Lecrone if they came or not. This makes me want to throw this keyboard through the window. When is that arrogant old basstard gonna retire anyway?

I just tweeted to Jason King and the UW Marching Band, I will post responses. This will be interesting, especially what the band tweets back, if anything. JK will just tow the bureaucratic BS line I'm sure. I will tweet the band to death if I have to.

With the game on Sunday it seems like that band would have less chance to have something already scheduled. Being on TV they should want to make the nest showing possible! Tell Johnson there might be potential recruits out there and he should want them to see the deluxe experience! Get the band there dammit.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I stopped and talked to a couple members of the band at Ridder last march. I told them that their team's fans wanted them to play at some of their home games. They said they wanted to. Anyways, just doing my part :D

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

This doesn't seem like that hard of a problem. If the band doesn't have time to play at "lesser" events, then form another band that does. A school the size of UW has to have hundreds and hundreds of kids that played in HS bands. College is supposed to be about opportunities; this could be an opportunity for more kids. The music department at Wisconsin can lead, follow, or get out of the way.

If you look at their schedule, it shows they will be at the Packer game tomorrow. So they can make the 3 hour trip north for a team they have zero affiliation with, but can't get to their own team events right on campus. Classy.

The more I read about this, it does seem like Mike Leckrone is the main culprit with this issue. I've heard from mulitple sources (as just posted today) that the band members want to be there. That tells me that top leadership within the band has made a conscious decision not to send a band to women's hockey which is infuriating. I have also tweeted and e-mailed the band department with no response. Again, I pin this almost 100% on leadership (Mike Leckrone in particular) vs. a disinterest in band members in going to the games.

What's weird is that Leckrone doesn't have to go. Other assistant directors lead the band all the time at smaller events. Heck, I'm pretty sure one of the seniors was leading things at the WCHA series in Verona in 2012.

Which makes it all the more strange/maddening. I'm pretty sure he has never been to a women's hockey game in its existance. Maybe the inaugural game in '99. Maybe. He likes to show up for championship celebrations however, like a fraud.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Some random thoughts.....

Clark has really blossomed so far this year. She is so creative in small spaces. That 1 on 5 goal today and the shorty give and go with Panny yesterday were very impressive.

Wellhausen just can't buy a goal, she had some great chances early in today's game.

Garnder is a very rushy D. She was jumping up in the play a lot. I can see why she's the 6.5th D along with Williams. MJ needs to reign her in a bit. That jumping up into the play may bite UW in the butt against better teams. It's funny that she scores in her second game and Rolfes hasn't scored a goal yet in a year +, though playing regularly.

Molly Donner had some wheels today, she was impressive.

At this early point in the season my fears of UW having goal scoring issues are totally wrong, though the competition has been a little sugary.

I really liked that UW attacked the net very aggressively all weekend, crashing every chance they got. I don't recall them being this aggressive in the past.

Nice breakdown as I didn't go to the game and inexplicably forgot to record the game on TV. Was really looking forward to watching the replay.

Really liked what I saw on Saturday, though just not sure how bad Ohio State is. Badgers were very aggressive then and sounds like that continued today.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I don't know I saw Clark as smiley all of last season as she was in the past two days' post-game pressers. She and Pankowski are clicking on all cylinders.
I'm not a huge fan of talking about intangibles, but most everyone talked about having fun and I think that plays into their confidence and ability to "play around" a little.

When they hold possession like the did this weekend, the ability to be creative opens up. They can loosen up a little when they don't have to worry about chasing the puck.

When I went up for media day this year, I watched some of practice. Pankowski and Clark stayed on the ice after everyone else and took turns slapping the puck from the blue line while the other stood between the circles and tried to redirect it. The ones that "missed" and pounded the boards behind the net were loud! We knew Annie had that in her, but the loudest ones were from Clark. She was very good last year, but seems to really be comfortable with an expanded role.

Clark and Pankowski keep getting on the score sheet and Wellhausen feels like the ghost on the line. You ALMOST don't know she's on the ice, but she's winning pucks in the corners and feeding the other two. Don't discount her impact despite the lack of goals.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

This past weekends games really showed the depth that this Badgers team has. I think it is a deeper team that last seasons team. So far all the forwards have at least one point and all 4 lines seem to gel together! As the season goes along that becomes so important..Every player understands their role and feels as if they are contributing.. If coach Johnson can afford to roll all four lines against most of the opponents they face it will keep everybody's legs fresher as the season goes along.. I couldn't agree more that though a bit snakebitten in the early part of this season, Wellhausen is a very important part of this Badger puzzle and plays a big part on her line with Pankowski and Clark..Along with a couple assists over the weekend, yesterday she recorded 8 shots on goal and at least 5 were prime scoring chances.. You could see the chemistry that this line had towards the end of last season and it looks like they are on the same page every shift they are on the ice. Watching the game on BTN yesterday the camera showed the three of them constantly talking and communicating on the bench and the ice.. They are only sophomores! The goals will come for Wellhausen as well but, she is doing an outstanding job on the forcheck and uses her speed and nifty passing to create chances for both Clark and Pankowski.. On the back end I really like the way the Badger defense has played up to this point as well.. I would put the Badger top 4 "D" against anyone else's.. Maddie Rolfes has stood out to me with her skating ability and decision making.. The D-pair of Ryan and Channel have great chemistry as well! It will be interesting to see how this season unfolds week to week but, I am very optimistic about this team!
