Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Wasn't ARD one of the goalies for Team Canada in the World Championships a few months ago? What happened??
I was looking at the HC U22 camp roster and notice that ARD is not listed? I could have sworn that she was one of the goaltenders invited. Was she injured?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Looking way ahead.....

The U18's for the US and Canada are battlling it out this week. On the US invite roster, UW had Bowlby, Roque, Steffen, Norby, Shaver, Gardiner and Mauermann, with Bowlby and Norby making the final cut and Mauermann in the injured list. On the Canadian invite roster Cece was the only UW player and she did not make the final cut.

Eight U18 invites is a very good number, with 2 coming onto the roster this year (Shaver and Gardiner). If you look at the outgoing seniors and the incoming freshmen for next year it looks like a net gain in talent. Maybe UW will regain the talent edge over the rodents in the future and get back to being dominate.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Uh... I think you may be a bit confused! Shaver, Gardiner, Roque, and Mauermann were not invited this summer to the USA U-18 camp because all 4 are 1997 birth years.. They were not invited to the U-22 camp either..Not sure where you found that info! I do agree with you however that the future does look bright. When you add what is coming over the next 2 seasons to the Freshman class of last season (Pankowski, Wellhausen, Clark, Rolfes, and Williams) there should be years of success ahead!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Exactly!! The summer series U-18 team that plays Canada each August is for the most part (a few faces may change) the same team that will play at the World Championships the following January.. Tim was looking at the 2015 Worlds roster when he posted what he did, not this summers invite list.. Players on the current U-18 team can be no older than a 1998 birth year. But... back to the Badgers.. only 5 weeks until the first games!! Should be a fun season and a great way to kick things off in San Jose vs. Providence! Anyone with thoughts on the upcoming season?
That was this year's u-18 worlds.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Nov 20 will almost certainly be one. Men's hockey are at home (against Denver, so little chance of a Thursday night Big Ten Network game), and the football team is at home, so no chance of Sat afternoon game.

Beyond that, there are five (!) other weekends when the men's hockey team are also at home. Without having men's and (especially) women's basketball schedules to compare against, it seems likely that one or two of those will have Sunday parking conflicts such that WH is forced into a Friday afternoon game.

(I don't mind the Friday afternoon games at all, but I understand why others might.)

So UW and Big Ten have announced dates (but not times) for women and men's basketball. Meaning we can look at the weekends when women's hockey, and men's hockey, and one or the other (or both) BB teams are all vying for time slots at the Kohl Center and LaBahn, and guess which will necessitate Friday afternoon games.

Besides the Nov 20th game, which I remain certain will be a Fri 2 PM game, we have:

Jan 8, 9, 10 - mens hockey Jan 8.9, undoubtedly Fri and Sat nights; men's basketball Sat, must be Sat afternoon the 9th with quick KC switchover; and women's basketball Sunday. So almost certainly a Friday afternoon game for women's hockey

Jan 22, 23, 24 - men's hockey 22, 23, again Fri and Sat night; no mens BB, but womens BB (unusual!) on Saturday, so must be Sat afternoon, with quick switchover. That means almost certainly Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon for womens hockey.

Jan 29,30,31 - mens hockey Fri and Sat night 29, 30; no mens BB, but womens BB on Sunday the 31st. So maybe Sat afternoon, Sunday afternoon early for womens hockey, with womens BB later on? Or Friday afternoon, Saturday afternoon.

Feb 12, 13, 14 - Mens hockey, but neither BB team. So Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

(The fifth weekend I mentioned before is the one that comes first, October 9,10,11; meaning no BB to compete with. They have already announced this as Saturday and Sunday 2 PM for womens hockey. Which means on Saturday, they possibly conflict with the football team playing on the road, at Nebraska, no kickoff time announced yet. If we're lucky, football will be a night game.)

So, at least three Friday games - Nov 20, Jan 8, Jan 22. And maybe Jan 29th.

Great job extrapolating the the women's schedule. 4 Friday games would suck. I would not be opposed to games Sunday and Monday nights as a series.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Why wouldn't the UW Women play Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon on Feb. 12-14 weekend? If there is no mens or womens basketball it seems like it would make sense to play the Womens hockey games before the Mens.. Could be marketed as a hockey double header! The Nitty Gritty bar would love it!!

Do you mean in the the gals would play in the KC or just Labahn? If the KC, they should allow the men's ticket to get you into the gals for nothing and same if you have a gal's ticket, you get into the men's for nothing. Otherwise a Friday aft game would suck for me personally.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

No, I don't think the UW Women should ever play at the Kohl Center unless it is for a Fill the Bowl game...The team has made LaBahn their home over the last 3+years and playing there sets them apart from the sinking ship that the UW Men's program has become.. I just think that playing at 2:30 pm Friday and Saturday before the men's games at 7:00 pm would make sense.. that's all.

I think if you are going to make it a double header you should go the whole 9 yards. Have the women in the afternoon & then resurface & have the men. Think how great it would be to have Minnesota in for both halves - the place would go nuts & an excited crowd would make the whole scene that much better. MN should do it at their place too. It would have been great if both were still in the WCHA and more schools could have done it.

I think you overestimate the amount of men's hockey fans that will come early to the women's game.

even if it were a thousand or two its a start. I don't see anything else getting people in seats, make it a fill the bowl sort of deal

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

They would get both more money and more fans at the games by avoiding Friday afternoons. That's why they do it.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I have a feeling season ticket sales must be down quite a bit with the price increase. I decided not to renew, at least for now, and I got a call from the ticket office this morning asking if I was going to renew and letting me know they extended the deadline if I still wanted to.

I still might end up getting them, but between the price increase, and the processing fee on top of it, I figure, at best, I would end up breaking even based on the games I'll be able to get to this year. I still don't think raising the price was a bad idea, as it will hopefully reduce the number of sellouts with hundreds of empty seats, but on the flip side of that, it should also make it that much easier to walk up to get tickets to any game I want to see too.

I cut back from 2 youth and 2 adult to 1 youth and 2 adult, strictly based on the price increase. If I need a 4th ticket, I'll just buy before hand. I agree that the price increase was probably warranted due the great value, but I get p/o'ed when the BB and FB teams rake in millions and millions of bucks and the fans of the "peripheral" sports get squeezed. It's worth more to UW's future to keep the costs of tickets for women's hockey and similar sports low to build/maintain a fanbase for the future. I will be facinated to see how many season tickets got sold comparing this year to last and the overall attendance comparo as well.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I stuck with 2 adult season tickets just so I have them in hand, though I did have to think about it which I haven't done in the past.

Just saw a tweet from Badger Women's Hockey that tickets are going on sale for the San Jose games. Looks like tickets are $12 which is an interesting price point. Not sure how much of a draw it is for locals anyway and a relatively high ticket price (for regular season women's college hockey) doesn't bode well for much of a crowd. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
