Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

It was just released on the UW Men's website that freshman Keegan Ford is leaving the team. You have to wonder why? And IF it is true that Coach Eaves may leave for whatever reason, you would think that Coach Johnson at the very least would consider it.. You couldn't blame him. He was arguably the greatest Badger player ever and the son of Badger Bob. Wouldn't it make sense?

It would make sense, but at this point, for me, it would be a sad day rather than a happy one. He should have gotten the job the first time, although I'm admittedly talking out of my ---- on that one, I don't have any idea. Mark Johnson seems like an eminently respectable and likable fellow.

Badger Bob coached at my high school, although not while I was there:p

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Gophers play Sunday Tuesday series against ST Lawrence immediately before the UW series!

Err...that's not fair. Maybe the women could scrimmage with the men....I know they'd beat them, but it's just a scrimmage, who would really be keeping count?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Speaking of the Gopher series, BTN picked up the Saturday game. Gametime also pushed back to 430 to fit into the tv schedule.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I just watched the UW/UNH highlights, I was a little bummed to see quite a few very good scoring chances by UNH. That sheet of ice was HUGE. UW clamped down very well last weekend though.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Soooo....Shaver and Cogan have signed their LOI's with UW. Interestingly when Warner switched to Hawvard, MJ did not fill her spot. For 2015 UW looses 3 F and 1 D, gains 2 F. The D d seems a little thin to me, but UW has played with 5 D for stretches of this year, but they are one injury away from having 4 d available next year. They will have 14 F, maybe one (or 2) are flex type players. So far, UW has 1 D committed for 2016 (Steffen).

I might as well take this opportunity to wish all my Badger Brethren a Blessed and Joyous Christmas!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Kim Drake seems to have been moved permanently to defense.(at least in every game she has played in this season). So looking ahead to next season they would have 6 players on defense -- Burke, Ryan, Channell, Williams, Rolfes, and Drake...providing UW doesn't add a late signing...

Thanks for the heads up, I must not be paying attention when I'm at the games, or paying too much attention.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

No problem! Offensively speaking the team has scored 81 goals through the first 20 games this season. Here is the following breakdown by class: Seniors - 33 goals, Juniors - 7 goals, Sophomores - 21 goals, and the Freshmen - 20 goals. This team is led by a strong senior class of forwards (Turnbull, Ammerman, Sylvester, Josephs) but are getting great contributions from the Sophomore and Freshmen classes as well -- a goal per game pace per class. The Sophomore class is led by McKibbon(9) and Nurse(8). While the Freshmen are pretty balanced led in goals scored by Pankowski(9), Clark(5), and Wellhausen(5).. Hopefully the underclassmen will keep producing in the second half of the season. So far the depth of this team has been its strong point.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Apparently this happened over the summer, but former Badger Meaghan Mikkelson, along with Ohio State Alum Natalie Spooner, competed in the Amazing Race Canada (season 2). The show obviously played up their time on the Canadian Olympic team, but I did see at least one shot of her in her Wisconsin uniform. It's a good watch if you've got some extra time over the holiday break. It's a bit difficult to watch in the US, since the CTV website tries to block visitors from streaming outside of Canada, but many of the episodes are up on youtube, and it's also available on sites like project free tv.

Again, the show aired over the summer, so it's pretty easy to find spoilers too, but I never saw anything about it posted here - I didn't even know there was a Canadian Amazing Race until a week or two ago!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

My daughter got a women's hockey jersey for Christmas, you should have seen her face light up knowing she now had her very own UW jersey and she didn't have to borrow one of Dad's to wear to the games. I got 1 too, so it's pretty cool Daddy and Maddy have matching jerseys. Now we have such a long wait to wear them to LaBahn, though we did already wear them on the 25th and the 26th and we'll wear them new years day to support the FB team. Her enthusiasm is just awesome.

The next 6 games are against ranked opponents, though I suspect BSU will drop out of the top 10 with their sweep at the hands of OSU, they will be a tough opponent. They always play UW tough.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I sure hope the gals aren't as flat as the lads were coming off the break. UW needs a sweep to have any hope of getting the #1 seed.

Boys looked ok to me Sat night...especially Rumpel...but may be too little too late. Glad the girls aren't in that position

Probably referring more to the Friday game than Saturday. Unfortunately, the Friday game is the only men's game I've been at all year and it was as bad as the score.

Minnesota women have proven over the last 3+ years that if the Badgers don't bring their "A" game, it can get ugly. First game this year in Madison was more of the same. Badgers could have/should have won the next day and proved that the Gophers can be had. Unfortunately, things went sideways late in the game and OT and suffered yet another sweep.

I think the over/under number for a successful weekend is 3. With the losing streak being what it is against them, a single win at Ridder would be a big deal, even if it means the Gophers would win the season series. Anything more than that would be fantastic. I'm sure the team is looking for more, which is great.

As I left that men's game, I did the math and figured I spent more money in that one night (to see one of the worst men's performance I've ever seen) than I did for my whole season ticket package for the women's team. Much better value over at LaBahn. Now just bring the band!!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Well, the rodents are well lubed up and ready for this weekend. The gals needs to come out fast on Saturday with no holiday break hangover in the first period.

In looking back at the Madison series, the 4-1 loss doesn't read that badly. They score with 1 second left in the first and 20 seconds left in the 2nd. Add in the aweful play at the blueline that led to the shorty, and it's an even game (the shots were 26-24). I do recall overall the rodents seemed like the stronger team when I left the rink that night.

The rodents tied the next game with 1:30 left in the game, so close to the s/o win. That game felt even or maybe a little edge to UW when I left the rink that night.

They just need to play smart and not puke up late in period goals and all will be ok. It hasn't been a problem since.

UW's freshmen have been playing key roles in this team, and with more games under their belt this time around I think UW is more than capable of bringing 2 wins home. I think it's important to wrestle the 1 seed out of BC/UM's hand so they have to play eachother in the semi (thinking WAY ahead).

I love the logic. "If you ignore the goals we give up and the mistakes we make, we're undefeated."

No, you can play perfect and still lose. It was just an observation that giving up 2 end of period goals in one game and 3 in a weekend is an highly unlikely scenario and it wasn't like UM blew UW's doors off.

A team's only chance to go undefeated this year is to play BC's cupcake's. Sure, those taste yummy, but at some point they will catch up to you.

Speaking of which, Minnesota gave up (or Clarkson scored:eek:) 2 goals in the last minute and a half of the first period and 1 in the first 38 seconds of the 2nd in the nat'l championship game last year against Clarkson. Had a surreal or flukish or nightmarish quality about it. Something like that. The goals counted, though. Seems like it cost us a natty champ!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

true, but not to weak teams. MN looked confused and disorganized in the 1st & a long stretch of the 2nd that Friday in Madison but somehow managed to overcome that. It was opening weekend so I don't put much stock in it but good teams find ways to win. WHo will be the better team this weekend? That remains to be seen but we know there are going to be 2 great teams on the ice each working their butts off to win.

It's highly unlikely that a team would score at 14:24 of the first period and 12:21 of the second period in the same game, too, and even more unlikely that wouldn't score during any of the other 3,598 seconds of that game, but that's exactly what Wisconsin did in their last game against North Dakota. You can't reason backwards to assess probability like that because the exact timing of the goals is going to be astronomically unlikely for all games and yet every one of them results in one of those extremely unlikely outcomes.
