Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

FYI, it was Drake in for Williams on Saturday and I don't think that's the only time that's happened this season and it won't be the last. Lauren is definitely the odd man out in this freshman class and she's got catching up to do in terms of matching the level of the girls who've seen all that international play.

Incidentally, though they were all very nice and this isn't a negative on anyone but rather a positive on her, I particularly liked Lauren when I spoke to all the freshman. She was charming and earnest in a very likable way. She was very aware of her status in terms of not being one of the "names" coming in and determined to not let that be a problem. She had me rooting for her after talking to her for about seven minutes.

It's great to have that kind of depth @ D. I think Rolfes playing more is eating into William's ice time. It's unclear to me whether Rolfes was hurt early on in the year or just not able to break into he lineup. In the pre-season analysis Willaims was the least heralded recruit, but I like her size and reach. She'll be a player for UW.

Great measuring stick playing UNH this upcoming weekend. BC beat them 10-0 (42-12 in shots) and 5-0 (28-18 in shots) just 2 weeks ago.

Fellow UW fans, have a great and fun Thanksgiving!

Rolfes was definitely injured to start the season.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I listened to the game via UW's gameday page with the UNH announcing team, which did a fine job by the way. UW came out a little flat in the first and UNH played nearly flawlessly until the UW goal. It was good to see them put the hammer down in terms of pressure in the 2nd and 3rd periods (sog 7 15 16) and break it open in the 3rd. Love the balanced scoring of this team. That is the big improvement we all had hoped to see this year that would all them to legitimately challenge for the title this year.

I was a little shocked to find out UNH has radio broadcasts and that made me lament the fact that UW does not. Just another slap in the face to UW's most successful program. The UW volleyball is even on the radio, along with UW women's BB.

UM is not on the radio either. But there is a bright side. I listened to much of the BSU/UMD game yesterday on the radio from Bemidji's webpage. They missed a goal because they had to cut away for a commercial!

Also, at least when the game is streamed online and the audio is online, I know I'll be able to get it (rather than some ESPNU televised thing mixed in once or twice a year). Also, it's pretty great to be able to go back and watch or listen again after the game is over. I like to be able to hear the interviews I missed when I was at the game, or be able to go back and see the goals or penalties again. It's quite a mixed bag with having to pay different schools for streaming and the variation in quality of video and announcing, but there is some good parts to it!

(The UW volleyball team is ranked #2 in the country - and #1 Stanford lost this week, so maybe... - they just won the Big Ten outright, and had a sellout crowd of more than 6000 in the Field House last night. And they were playing at the same time as the hockey team(s). There are only so many stations that are going to do live sports, and between 4:30 PM and 9:30 PM last night, five different UW teams were in action. And over a longer period of time, the UW men's Cross Country team is UW's "most successful program".)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Now there's a sport that doesn't translate all that well to a live audio broadcast. ;)

True, but it isn't as bad as you might think, or used to be. These days for 'big' meets, the runners will have some sort of wireless Bluetooth transmitter on their person, such that 'live team results' can be gathered at intermediate points/distances along the course. A viewer/fan is able to know which team is winning as the race unfolds.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

That is a shocker. I guess I don't feel so bad now.

What's sad about the U of M not being on the radio is that there are quite a few high school games that you can listed to, even girls sometimes.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Very solid 3 periods today and 5 out of 6 overall for the weekend. 2 more shutouts by ARD, solid D played in front of her. Great job gals.

A comment that's been circulating in the back of my head.....I'm not in love with ARD's new helmet paint job.

Great weekend of hockey in New Hampshire. Eight different goal scores combined in the 2 wins. I thought the video feed was great and the announcers did a pretty good job. It seemed like they were very impressed with the speed of the Badgers and in particular the freshman line of Clark, Wellhausen and Pankowski. Wellhausen scored the game winner on Friday, Pankowski scored twice yesterday, and Clark added a couple assists over the weekend. These three were all over UNH in the offensive zone and created chances on nearly every shift. The announcers commented often about this line and I have to say after watching, they are really finding chemistry and playing well together. The depth on this team is a real strength and could prove to be the difference maker as the season progresses!

Um, guys, Badger home games are on the radio - I'm always there or in Milwaukee, so I'm not entirely clear on who is broadcasting them, but I think it's between WSUM 91.7 and WXXM, which is 92.1. Reid Magnum and former Badger Madison Packer do the PBP and color.

As you can imagine, there isn't a travel budget, so it's just home games. But Reid's pretty good and has certainly gotten better as he's done this for a few years and the addition of Madison is really nice.

I'm looking for road radio coverage, I will attend all but 1 or 2 homes games, but thanks for the info.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

This story on Brittany Ammerman and women's soccer in Kenya is pretty darn cool:

http://www.uscho.com/2014/12/02/soccer-league-in-kenya-takes-off-thanks-to-ammerman/

Very interesting, though reading during the break the women breastfed their kids was too much information...LOL.

A few weeks ago I was concerned that ARD's save % was one of the lower ones in the league, but now she's up to .931 right in the thick of the chase for the best in that category (though Mowat is at a crazy .952), and leads the league in gaa @ 1.32.

Another Friday aft game coming up, yuck. I think there's one more after this, then those are thankfully done. I just hate being deprived of using my tickets, though at this point I will be there Friday with my oldest college aged son and his friend. If I cannot make it, the lads will will be going, so good for them.

The balanced scoring is awesome, Pankowski, Ammerman and Sylvester are tied for 3rd in league scoring, and McKibbon and Turnbull are tied for 7th.

I sure hope Nurse can go this week. The sue are a dangerous foe.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

She played last weekend; did she suffer another injury, or why would she be out?

I thought she got dinged @ UNH, I could be wrong. I see she got 1 A on Saturday, but nothing on Friday.
