And 3 of the 4 are from the Twin Cities. Nothing wrong with that, just sayin'! :p I'll be rooting for them up until such time the color of blue no longer appears in their uniforms. ;)

And we will continue to happily recruit quality players from the Cities or any other region of Minnesota.

I really like the series preview videos they put together. Should be a tough series as both games in Grand Forks were close and North Dakota played well down here in Madison last year getting a split.

Hopefully, the Badgers are fully (or at least relatively) healthy and ready to roll in their last series prior to semester break.

Hate the 3:00 Friday face-off. Have to figure out if I'm taking a "late lunch" or have to "meet a client" who just happens to be downtown, near campus. If was really ambitious, I would either go hockey double-header or over to the Fieldhouse for NCAA volleyball.

Me too, I came into work @ 6am instead of 8am so I could get out of here and just make it there by the faceoff time (and I managed not to get any appointments scheduled for this aft either). We could schedule a mutual client meeting for the next Friday tilt, I deal in commercial storefronts and glass, what do you deal with/in? One of us should be able to need what the other has.

Matchup....I know UW is a better team this year and I suspect the sue are a little weaker...I'm glad Tapani is gone, she was a beast. She was very noticeable when she was on the ice, more so than any other player I can recall from last year.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Too bad Williams allowed the sue to get around her and drive to the net on the tying goal. Other than that a pretty clean performance. The second period was a little too even. The sue did a great job of not allowing a lot of quality chances. Also going 0-4 on the pp was a bad thing.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I thought a key play came a couple minutes before the tying goal when UW had a three-on-one break and Josephs shot wide. IMO, you have to put that on goal and make the goalie try to control a rebound with a good chance to score if she doesn't.

Good point. The sue sieve was a rebound machine, so get it on net and use the numbers to bang home the rebound.

I'd like to see UW play more side to side hockey in the O zone for some backside chances. The quality of goaltending is such that it's getting harder and harder to snipe one under pressure from defenders.

It was cool to see Johnson start 4 Fr in the game.

Rolfes is a very aggressive pincher. There was one play where she pinched and an F covered as the puck was brought out by the sue, but then the F left the coverage too soon and left a sue all alone in front, but the puck never got to her.

Not a bad crowd size wise, but very vocal.

I guess I'm really ambitious.

Went to the women's game (Amsley-Benzie was just outstanding), and went to Volleyball. Had previously bought a ticket to mens hockey, before volleyball came up. But volleyball started at 7 PM, while men's hockey didn't start until 8 PM (for TV). So, assuming that the UW volleyball women would sweep (they did), that would mean volleyball was over by about 8:30 or so (it was). Walked the mile from the Field House to the Kohl Center and was in my seat for the drop of the puck at the start of the second period. Triple-header!

(Band(s) - No for women's hockey; yes for volleyball; NO for men's hockey!! Because a big 'Yes' for football in Indianapolis tonight.)

I'm very impressed by the Badger trifecta. 2 out of 3 wins isn't bad, I guess. Thank goodness the whole band went to Indy. Clearly they made a big difference. I am glad they did send some band to volleyball as it was the more important game compared to men's hockey.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

On the UW audio Madison Packer expressed the opinion that as UND starts to get chippy late in the game, it is particularly alarming that they resort to that type of play because the Badgers don't have anybody on their roster like Decker or herself to respond and let UND know they won't put up with that.

She also stated she was surprised that UND played Shaw in goal despite how well Aimsley-Benzie played Friday night, even after acknowledging that is typical of Idalski.

I like that she will speak her mind, state some real opinions. It helps me learn a little of how and what a good player thinks.

Packer does excellent commentary. Thought the same during the series with Minnesota.

I agree on both accounts. Yesterday and today they got chippy in the 3rd period. I'm very ok with UW just taking it in because the refs actually did a good job calling those penalties and UW got pp's (though they did not score, bummer). They let the first one go Friday, but called all of then after that.

Also shocked to see Shaw get the start, though she played very well. Both goals allowed were backside type shots. I will say after viewing Nurse's OT winner I thought it was a little shot of a goal, considering the distance Nurse was away when she fired it.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

If you are a Badger fan you have to be happy with how the team is looking going into the break. They are 17-2-1 and since the Minnesota games back in October they have been playing at a very high level. Coach Johnson has been getting scoring from 3 and sometimes even 4 lines -- very balanced. Defensively they are not giving up many shots and Desbien has been terrific in goal. I watched the Sunday game against North Dakota on line (BIG TEN 2go) and the announcers were very impressed with the freshman line of Pankowski, Clark, and Wellhausen. Baylee had a beautiful goal off a 2 vs 1 rush and really was a factor in both wins over the weekend by using her speed and willingness to go to the net. I also thought Maddie Rolfes played very well on defense and she just looks better and better each time I see her play! The big test for this team will obviously be January 10-11 vs the Gophers but, you have to like their chances based on the way the team has been playing over the last 2 months!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

This freshman class has taken UW back to the level of play we are accustomed to as UW fans, very exciting indeed.

An opportunity for improvement would be their initial rush D. The last 3 goals allowed by UW were rebounds of the rush where it was 2 on 2 or 3 on 2, ARD stops the first shot and the opponent bangs in the rebound. They need to clean that up. If they can clean that up, that would just be fantastic.

One more improvement area is the PP, which is at 17%. They need to watch UM pp, clicking along @ 34%. They need to get the puck to the backside more often for those easy tap in goals.

If ARD sees the initial shot, she's going to stop it. She's every bit as good as we had thought she'd be, being in the top 8 nationally in s% and gaa.

Those next 2 games are going to be epic battles, though it's a little disappointing it's both team's first games back after the break, so I expect neither will be 100% sharp. The big ? is can I convince the wife to do a roadtrip to rodentsota to support the gals. She's SO paranoid about driving in the winter, even though one of our vehicles is 4WD.

Gophers play Sunday Tuesday series against ST Lawrence immediately before the UW series!

Is Eaves going to lose his job if the men don't have a better second half?

Would Mark Johnson get/take the men's job?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I agree that the power play NEEDS to be better.. I wonder if plugging in a different player or mixing it up a bit/different combos with the forwards would help. Sometimes a small move with the personnel can make a big difference!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

It was just released on the UW Men's website that freshman Keegan Ford is leaving the team. You have to wonder why? And IF it is true that Coach Eaves may leave for whatever reason, you would think that Coach Johnson at the very least would consider it.. You couldn't blame him. He was arguably the greatest Badger player ever and the son of Badger Bob. Wouldn't it make sense?
