Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I'm pretty sure that game against BU sold out on walk-up sales. I was listening to the latest Wisconsin Hockey Hour, and Posick mentioned a sellout crowd. I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier, but taking into account the bands, that was probably a sellout.

There were quite a few empty seats down by the band where we were, but I suppose it could have been a sellout.

The bands were given more seats than they had people, as always. At least one, probably two rows in front of the band are unavailable. Taking into account standing people, it makes sense to me.

I can't help but ponder what kind of impact Taylor Cianfarano would have had on the season for UW....17 goals, 13 assists on a team with what appears to be lighter on talent that UW. She may have been the difference.

Had Cianfarano gone to UW, would there have been scholarships available for all of your other players? For example, it wasn't part of the original plan that Ammerman would be part of the roster last season due to her medical redshirt season; she had 13 goals, 24 assists. Somebody was going to wind up without a scholarship in all likelihood. With the depth the Badgers had last season, I'd seriously doubt that there was money unspent.

It was mentioned last year that Ratray chose Clarkson over MN and that opened the spot Kelly Terry took. I have no idea how that "swap" changed each team but I am not unhappy with it after 4 years. You can't talk about adding a player without subtracting one and it probably not going to be a 4th liner.

You win in the playoffs with Defense & Goaltending! Plenty of offense in the MN game, just needed your goalie to win a BIG game ! ARD? Aware of her credentials & ability, but my question to the faithful is...has she won a BIG game for the Badgers yet? Hopefully next year!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

ARD? ...has she won a BIG game for the Badgers yet?

I guess that would depend on how you define "BIG"; I'd put a WCHA tourney final and an NCAA tourney quarterfinal in that category.

ARM said "would there have been scholarships available for all of your other players?"

(Unless I'm mistaken) NCAA Div I teams have 18 scholarships available. UW had 7 D, 14 F and 3 goalies; so obviously some of them were playing on a half-scholarship, or with none at all (Mikayla Johnson an obvious possibility there). So, yes, having Cianfarano on the roster probably means one or even two others drop off. Excellent point on your part.

Hux had her initially on his list as having committed to UMD and I seem to recall Miller's discussing Rattray's changing her mind just after she did and what her reasoning was.

I think so, she was all lined up and ready to come in before the deal fell through, it was a late change. Somehow it was going to work out.

ARD.....I have no worries about her in big games.....she's not on the Canadian national team for nothing....she won 3 elimination games out of 4 this season. All the rodent goals were rebounds or screens.

It wasn't a sellout. Posick probably misspoke, or just assumed it was without checking.

Reported attendance was 200 people less than capacity, and 200 less than was listed for the actual sellout vs. Harvard in last years NCAAs. Even being there you could tell there were still seats available in the corners, and no one was sitting in the rows below the bands, unlike last year, when at least the first 2 or 3 rows of those sections were filled.

Just curious, do you remember her reasons? I have not talked to player but have asked several parents about their impressions and what the kids said about them. It's a mixed bag with some common themes. Of course they all were please & positive about the choice they made which is not unexpected, they liked it enough to go there. I find it interesting to hear the process because each one is different (again not unexpected).

I think she decided that she just wanted to be closer to home. Clarkson would fit the bill since she's from a suburb of/just outside of Ottawa which is maybe a 1 1/2 hr drive or so away.

Thanks, that was the reason I heard she didn't want to go to MN also but second-hand & rumors is not reliable so having it from a second source at least lends more credence. I'd have hated to see her in a Bulldog sweater but would have liked to have seen her for 4 years :)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Have to ask: Who gave up all the rebounds? :p

Those rebounds were within 6 inches of her pads, it isn't like they were big long gushy ones out in the slot. 2 of them took great skill to roof the shot with almost no clearance to the pad.

Cianfarano's history...signed with UW during the early period in Nov, 2013. As of April 2014 she was still committed to UW per Bucky's 5th Q. That's the end of the trail.

My point was if she came and the rest of the roster remained intact, they might have won a couple more games and landed that 2nd/3rd seed, maybe even pushed out to the #1. Exchanging her for the 12th forward would have been an improvement to the roster. It always bothers me when a signed player decommits.

My point is that the roster likely wouldn't have remained intact. There was a rumor that there wasn't a scholarship available for a returning player and she was prepared to go elsewhere rather than play at UW w/o a scholarship.

In Cianfarano's case, it was reported that she couldn't get into Wisconsin, not that she backed away from her commitment.

I was trying to find that as that was what I recalled but I didn't want to write it w/o verification. Had she come, I can't imagine Ammermann would have been booted, it would have somehow been a 4th liner.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I just filled out my season ticket holder survey. My comments were about the band needing to be there every game, the concession getting too backed up, Friday aft games being bad and there needing to be more red and white and less beige in the color scheme. Hopefully I didn't miss any of the main points.

Also filled out the survey today. Pretty much the same feedback (need band more, concessions are expensive/congested and Friday afternoon games stink). Also commented that 30% of the seats aren't able to see the video board. Would like to see an additional video on other end or a 4-sided board.

Of course, once I sent it, I forgot a couple of things but they are probably out of the scope of the Event Staff/Promotions. Wisconsin needs to figure out a way to host a NCAA Frozen Four. I understand there are some significant logistical issues at play, but it's a joke that a powerhouse program like Wisconsin hasn't had the opportunity to play in their home arena/city for a Frozen Four.

In addition, I'm more aggrevated after the fact that a small allocation of FF tickets weren't made available to the general public of each school. Yes, had I wanted to, I could have paid 3x face off of Stubhub or gotten tickets off the street and attended the game. But there is no excuse why zero tickets (at face value) were available. Not sure if that's the fault of the NCAA or Minnesota athletic department (or perhaps UW if they chose to keep all tickets in-house while the other schools didn't).

I'll be curious to see what changes (big or small) will be made based on the surveys. At the very least, they will have a couple of changes made to the banners above the ice.

Excellent point on the scoreboard. I never realized it until my wife wanted to sit on the far north end, which was fine, til I looked up and saw that the video board could not be seen, then I made her/us move to the other end. At the end of the game she got mad at me because I sang varsity and I'm not an alum (she doesn't go to many games with me). Anyway, also great point on the ncaa tickets and hosting a FF. I forwarded the original email home, so I just might do it again with these added comments.
