Can't believe it's already the end of the regular season. Just like last year, the Badgers will play the same team two weekends in a row as St. Cloud comes in to start the WCHA playoffs.

I am bummed the season is coming to a close. It feels like it still just started. I'm bringing a ticket and a jersey to work today, hopefully I can get out around 2:15 so I can get to the game by 3. I'm so freaking busy right now. I may just go into work tomorrow aft or early in the am (if I wake up early) if I need to. My wife thinks I'm a little crazy for going by myself, but it's no different than if I watch a game at home by myself.

Let's to RED!

The life of a women's hockey fan………I think one occasionally must be ready to go to a game by oneself :o

I have no problem at all going to a game by myself. What are the odds you won't find a friend, and acquaintance, or at the very least, like-minded people!

The only reason for a solo trip is the time of the game being at 3, all the hs kids are in school and the college kids can't skip or are out of town.

After the unproductive morning I had, it's looking bleak for me to get out of work early enough to make the trip to Madison worth while anyway. :(

I go the Gopher games by myself all the time. Then again, I'm normally met by a group of like-minded people known as "the band."

And as he said, if you can't find any of those, at least Dave will be in the crowd.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Thanks for the link. Looking forward for Ms. Norby bringing her skills down to Madison. I like seeing the program getting back to landing recruits from the Twin Cities.

she's a great player. she was great in Buffalo with u18. you're going to love her style. quick, smart with the puck, and not afraid to get to the tough areas. **** I wish she was coming east.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Well, there is no way to positively spin a home loss to St. Cloud. They did dominate in shots, but couldn't solve Friend until very late into the game. Followed on the UW blog then listened to the radio feed for the third. Sounds like the refs swallowed their whistles and a bad no-call led to St. Cloud's empty netter.

Going into the weekend, I thought maybe they would sit Desbiens Sunday to get some rest prior to the playoffs, but they can't afford another bad loss and possibly maintain a #4 seed nationally.

Now they have to stew on this for an extra day as the second game isn't until Sunday afternoon.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

The refs pretty much swallowed the whistle all day long. The bigger thing is that the Badgers just seemed to be off their game, always being a step behind where they needed to be. They had several great chances, but just kind of choked. I don't remember the players involved, but in the 2nd, they had a basically 2 on 0 breakaway, and the player with the puck basically chipped the pass across, and sent it bouncing over the other players stick. Earlier in the same period, a Badger standing on the edge of the goal, had a puck bounce to her off the end board with a wide open net, and she pushed it right back across the side of the goal.

Credit SCSU's Defense too. They basically played most of the game like they were on a penalty kill, keeping at least 3 or 4 players in front of the net nearly all the time. As many shots as Wisconsin had, there were a ton more that were blocked, and many of the ones that got through weren't exactly quality shots.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

The refs definitely displayed some blatant disregard for the rules at times. (I know officiating is harder than it looks, but sometimes it really is just ineptitude.)

That said, it really didn't feel like game 2 of last year's WCHA series with Minnesota State. The officiating did have an impact on the game, obviously, but the Badgers weren't giving themselves much help. The second half of the second period had so many almost-great plays. They outplayed SCSU in so many areas, but someone on the huskies would make a great play (so I have to give them credit) or a Badger would miss the shot (which is on them).

What was most disappointing was that in the third period, Wisconsin's very obvious superiority talent-wise seemed to go away. After the second intermission, it looked like a different matchup.

The 'earlier in the period' play was (I'm 99.9% sure) Pankowski; I know the other play you mention, but I didn't notice who was on either end of the pass.

The lines were juggled, with Sowchuk moving 'up' and Wellhausen 'down', along with other changes/combinations. I assume in an effort to generate more offense. They generated plenty of shots, but the puck simply refused to go into the net. Very frustrating. It will interesting to see what the lines look like Sunday.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I'm kind of glad I didn't go, the report of not having a strong 3rd period is not a good sign about the psyche of the team.

At least Q lost as well, so that should ease the fear of the 4/5 flop, though earlier in this thread the appreciated numbers geeks said UW could get swept and pretty much still stay 4 in the pairwise. With the Q loss, it's probably assured now.

UW has to play these gals 3 more in a row, this gives St. Cloud a lot of confidence, though it's better to get a loss out of the way now, than next weekend so we don't have to sweat out another Sunday elimination game like last year.

My wife and I decided to make the trip down to Madison for the weekend to watch both games..haven't been down since the Minnesota series in October..I noticed that Coach Johnson tweaked the lineup by shuffling the lines around. It seemed to me that though the team put plenty of pucks to the net, there were definately some chemistry issues in the make up of the lines.. Interesting to me that he decided to move Wellhausen to the fourth line and Sowchuck up to the third. By doing this he also moved McKibbon to wing. Once the third period got underway however he moved Wellhausen back to the third line and McKibbon back to center. After doing this that line(with Nurse) once again had chemistry and came close to tying the game on several occasions. Though Wellhausen hasn't scored a bunch of goals this year, she is arguably one of the fastest players on this team and a real sh** disturber on the forecheck. IMO she is definately a top 9 forward on this team.. Interesting to me that the coaching staff essentially took that speed out of the lineup for two periods... Also I think that the real problem with this team offensively is the power play.. It is currently ranked in the middle of the pack in D-1 hockey and has a conversion rate of only 16.8%. After doing some research I found that 4 of the six forwards used on the power play are in major scoring slumps with the exception of Pankowski and Turnbull. Special teams seem to make up about 30% - 40% of the womens game and THAT needs to get turned around if this team has any hopes of winning a title this season!! Good luck Sunday Badgers--let's finish the regular season off on a winning note!!

Great analysis. I wonder what the lines were @ OSU? The PP was coming around a bit with the umbrella type they were running against UMD.

I'm assuming you are a NY Rangers fan?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I wonder what the lines were @ OSU?

Lines at Ohio (as listed on the chart) were:
Sylvester, Turnbull, Josephs
Ammerman, Clarke, Pankowski
Nurse, McKibbon, Wellhausen
Sowchuck centering different wingers

Lines yesterday were:
Ammerman, Turnbull, Josephs
Nurse, Clark, Pankowski
Sylvester, Sowchuk, McKibbon
Wellhausen wing to the 'Friday 4th line' of Jones and Harding, with Harding at center

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Assuming a healthy lineup, ideally by this time of year your lines would be set!
