Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

I watched the US/Canadian brewhaha last night. I was bummed Vetter wasn't in goal (Schuas looked shakey). It was great to see Knight, Duggan and Decker play a key role in the scoring chances for the US. Pankowski didn't really do too much, I can see why she would have got cut.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Brad Scholssman is saying he's got confirmation that Annie Pankowski is one of the final two cuts from the Olympic team.

With Kessel not playing (so far), why would you cut down a forward? Eleven with Kessel, ten if she ends up not being able to go?

Sorry, I'll believe it when I see it/hear it officially.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Stone was pretty cagey about Kessel and what her rehab is and what the plan is for her, but said in no uncertain terms that Kessel will be playing in Sochi. At one point she started to say more, then stopped herself. Kessel is rehabbing away from the team - not traveling.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

I was told at the Xcel by a parent of someone who is clearly on the team that the cuts have been made. What I was told was what has been reported here, Chesson and Pankowski.

The final team is the 20 who dressed in Saint Paul plus Amanda Kessel.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Rigsby is still out for this weekend with the sprained knee. Hopefully she's back next week for the suzy q's.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Good article about the goaltending situation, but not a good sign that Rigsby hasn't gotten the green light yet. With that said, Desbien has been very good as the "back-up" (though she clearly would have played a ton had Rigsby made the US team). Hopefully, there is no holiday rust with the team as a whole. Can't afford to lose any points up in St. Cloud.

One Badger hockey team won the game they were expected to win tonight.

Yeah, the gals toughed out a win and the boys pead down their legs.

I just wonder if UW has enough firepower to make some noise in the ncaa's (lamenting Pankowski's absence).

I'm going to go with "definitely." Not quite as much as 2 years ago, but this team is just plain good.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Sweep as expected. I am pumped to see UW play the suzies in person. I'm hoping for a higher than normal raukus student section.

Will they be missing any players who are back home training with their respective National teams?

I wouldn't think so. Camps over the holidays should be done by then, and I don't expect European teams to centralize before the end of the month. Although with two countries for sure, Finland and Germany, and maybe a third in Sweden, national team players occasionally disappear at odd times.

Yeah, not sure why you would think otherwise. They're not flashy, but they grind and the scoring is spread around multiple lines, so a down night for one isn't the end of the story. They're the #2 team in the country for a reason. They've won every game they should, even though Packer and Rigs have missed time. They didn't look bad at Minny, despite the losses, and that was early in the season. Sure, anything can happen in any given game, but their solid performance in WCHA and in Vail makes me feel they can handle whomever they draw.
