Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Finally got around to opening the envelope with the season tickets. The enclosed letter said that the opening night reserved seating tickets will be sent out in early October. I'm curious how many season ticket packages have been sold to date.

So what happened to make you guys tie a MSU team that's clearly not in your stratosphere?

Really? Nice to see you are in mid-season agitating form in September.

Didn't see the same, but the game blog sounded like Butters played well, plus Badgers had several shots off the post. With only a week of practice in and playing a lot of freshman, it is what it is. Take the two conference points and come back tomorrow.

Even though the Badgers chased the starting goalie (can't remember who it was) in both games against Mankato in the WCHA first round last year, the Mavs played tough the remainder of each game.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Couldn't help but notice that all three MSU players who have "Lauren" as their first name had a very productive first game of the 2012-13 season.;) Go Mavs!!!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Nice to see you guys without a perfect record for once :p

i saw the game,
the defense was shake giving alot of odd man rushes and turnovers, butters was on top of her game , the badgers might have some trouble his season
wont be the same without knight.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Sounds like Mankato does a lot better without their thug coach on the bench. He ought to get suspended more often.

It's still way too early to speculate on how the UW season will turn out but I think we all knew a down year was a strong possibility as their lineup is probably one of the weakest ones on paper since the Olympic season.

Agreed!

I know there are other teams in the same boat but I think having to play games after having roughly 5 hours of coached practice didn't help their adjustment any Friday. This team has a lot of talent and could be in the mix at the end of the year if they can figure out how to work together and be a cohesive group. Skilled players trying to play their own offensive game will not get them anywhere, more than ever they need some role players to step up and lead their respective units behind Decker otherwise I feel that a season similar to the last Olympic year will be in the cards. The best badger teams in the past have been able to methodically wear down their opponents by keying on their defensive weaknesses and setting up plays to capitalize offensively. The past two years and in the two games this season they have gone away from that style and focused more on trying to just steam roll their opposition with SOG and thus have lapsed greatly in their defensive play. They need a speech like "One player cant do it all and if they rely on throwing every puck on net and failing to eliminate the 2 on 1s defensively wont always get positive results" If they cant key in on their own weaknesses then I foresee quite a few frustrating games to come this year.

On the plus side the game yesterday showed quite a bit of improvement across the board in terms of hustle and offensive zone presence compared to the first game. The offensive plays looked crisp for the most part and the physicality of the game was more of what I expect from these two teams. I missed the Lauren Barnes CFB (Phone Call) and was disappointed that the badgers failed to convert during the extended PP. Overall however they still struggled to solve Butters and she is just the first in a line of good tenders they will face this season. I don't want to point to a lack of heart but following the Drake goal in the third the team seemed disinterested in the game on the ice and was barely going through the motions.. I am sure that is something Mark will talk about in the locker room.

Side note: Impressed by Kim Drake in her initial offering and it was also great to have Alev Kelter in the mix for the start of the season. I am sure it was tough for her to give up on soccer, so I hope that having her active all season makes a difference for the team where they need depth the most. Not impressed by Karley Sylvester or Brittany Ammerman both seemed to hot dog far too much with the puck and cost the team scoring chances, as experienced players they should know when to shoot and when to pass, which gets back to my point above..

Wont have a chance to see the girls play again until the Sunday game in Duluth if my schedule holds, so I hope by that point they are showing some improvement and back closer to the team we expect them to be.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Certainly some positives for Mankato to build from!

Let's face it, Wisconsin will be a force to be concerned about. Although one player doesn't bring championships, Decker can certainly lead them in the right direction and there is definately some talent and depth to work with. Based on the past, as long as the coach can find two solid lines and get some goaltending that is all that seems to matter.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Tough to comment because I didn't actually see the games, only the stats and commentary. Not about to hit the panic button considering they still went out on the road and got 5 conference points. Yes, it was Mankato and needed a last minute comeback on Friday. I think this team will keep getting better as they get more practice and games under their belt. Ideally, they will get healthy offensively against Lindenwood.

UW will be fine. When it comes to hockey, they dont rebuild, they just reload every year.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

I saw the game in Mankato and Wisconsin has many weapons - Decker, Joseph, Ammerman, Slyvestor, Packer, Rigsby.....none at this point are Knight. Johnson can and will develop the talent that is there I suspect by year end they will compete very well.

Mankato though outshot 2-1 played good hockey including killing off the 5 min Major to Barnes.

As of 8:30 this morning (October 1), single-game tickets are now available for general public sale. Already have 2 sets of seasons, but needed to pick up extras for opening night for other family members.

Heading out from NH for our series against the Badgers. Should we be getting tix in advance? I'd hate to get out there and have to watch the video stream from the hotel:eek:

There's no real downside in getting the tickets ahead of time. You'd probably be OK as I'm not sure how many absolute sellouts there will be after opening night and the playoffs, but why risk it?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

I bought 7 tickets for the inaugural game 10/19. All the seating is reserved for this game and no print at home tickets either, so it's will-call or mail. I'm in WH row 11, where ever that is, I couldn't find a seating chart for the LaB yet.
