Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

Per Baggot, Gardiner and Schulz will be paired together this weekend, while Ramage and Johnson will also pair together.

UW coach Mike Eaves paired junior and assistant captain Jake Gardiner and sophomore Justin Schultz -- two very offensive-minded blue-liners -- together.

"There's some rational reasons,'' Eaves said, noting that both play on the same power play unit, "but also it gives us a chance to see what they can do 5-on-5.''

Sophomore John Ramage and senior Craig Johnson -- two very defensive-minded, stay-at-home guys -- are working together as well.

"They can shut down teams, too,'' Eaves said of the Ramage-Johnson duo. "We have two tandems of defensemen we can throw out there.''

Eaves must have saw something in practice that must look amazing on O to pair Schultz and Gardiner together. Gardiner has been much better in his own zone, so probably helped the decision. Not sure what everyone else thought, but being there last Friday, Schultz did not look good.

He looked better on saturday, he was horrible on friday night. If Eaves is going to pair Faust & Simonelli together, that must mean the four dmen will be getting a lot of minutes. I wonder if he experimented w/ Johnson and Ramage paired w/ one of the freshman each? Both are great in their own zone, and Ramage proved he can clean up for anyone after playing w/ Smith last season.

I just wonder, long term, if Gardiner, Ramage, Schultz & Johnson are logging 25 minutes+ a night each, how that will effect them as the season wears on. I wish UW would keep track of ice time, so I could compare to season's past. Sure McBain in 2008/09 played a ton of minutes, McDonagh last season, but the three lines were rolled consistently.

The Faust/Simonelli pairing is making me very worried. I'm also worried about the Gardiner/Schultz pairing. If they both get all run and gunny it's going to be ugly. The D better all remeber thier first responsibility is D first. You can only count on the rodents screwing up so many 2 on 1's before they get lucky.

Hopefully BB and Goody stand on their heads this weekend. The rodents have actually been playing halfway decent lately, so we might need our goalies at their best to bail us out.

wow. on the pre-game interview nate condon says the gophers are creative and wisconsin is more of a trapping defensive team. did he see even one game last year or heard about the UW running and gunning this year? the trap years are over.

what a tool. I hope he gets put on his prissy *** this weekend

For those of you keeping score, the Bucks got bounced on FSN Wisconsin for Badger hockey tonight. I know it's the Minnesota game, but it's about time.

Not on Dish Network. I'm watching it on Fox North as I type. Fox WI had the Bucks on Dish.

There is a Frazee, Minnesota; is there a Kangas, Minnesota soon to come?

The Bucks game wasn't televised tonight unless you have NBA League Pass. Dish probably just put it on the FSN North channel because they were using the same feeds.

Gardiner and Schultz played pretty well. There was 1 ugly Faust/Simonelli sequence in the 1st period, that all I noticed.

I really don't like the 2 pairing of Rammer and Johnson on the 2nd pp unit, but what can you doi with so few NHL ready D on your team?

The pp was aweful. The rodents could have scored 2 shorties early in the 1st.

Smith getting stoned 3 times on breakaways is downright embarrassing. On the PS, he should have hammered the 5 hole.

Soild D all night. No breakaways, no 2 on 1's.

That seemed to be the goof's best offense all night.

Side note, these announcers were terrible. Kinda made me miss doug and the rug. :D

He committed 2-3 years ago, so last year would have had no bearing on his decision. I interviewed both he and his brother for my Offseason Interview series over the summer (his brother Nick plays for Notre Dame) and they both seem like great people.

Nate Condon Interview

Nick Condon interview

He is a kid I would have loved to see the Badgers land.

Yes, this was the low point of an awesome effort. I would say that it was not due to lack of effort on the PP, or the quality of the Gophers PK (as the announcers would have had you believe). It was just poor decisions and mistakes. Thank goodness Goody was there to bail them out. It could have been ugly in the first.

Bill Butters suggested to Eaves that they try the Schultz/Gardiner and Johnson/Ramage pairings. Part of the reason is that they also play on the PP together.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

Hate to admit it, but I was thinking the same thing.

Me too, They kept saying Turnbull was Zengerle (I guess it is true that they can't read in MN isn't it), and screwed up Craig and Partick Johnson a few times. Sure both of their jerseys say Johnson (they even include the first initial!!!) but they also play a different position.

They were not good, and while Doug and Rug weren't great either, they wouldn't make these kind of mistakes because they would be too busy telling you how the gophers were the better team down 4-0. Can't make name mistakes when you aren't actually calling the game.

The gophers D is horrible, Lucia only gets a few decent blue liners because they are instate kids and want to wear the 'm' but he chooses to recruit the wrong ones over and over and over...as of late at least.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

It has been interesting watching the rise and fall of Kangas. Has he gotten worse or was Minny's D that bad? Also, when I woke up this morning and saw the score the first thing I did was laugh. Hopefully, there is no let up tonight. I will be at the game next weekend and can't wait to see Mersch, 1st Star, and Mr. Little playing on the O side.

1. You're lying. Wooger would have gone out of his way to praise the Badgers. The last few years especially he made sure he was being as fair and balanced as he could be DESPITE the fact it is a Gopher broadcast.

2. It's funny to listen to you guys hammer on the new announcers now. You all wanted Woog and Frank gone so bad. Woog bashing was literally a full contact sport on this board for as long as I've been here.

In the end how could you not like Woog! The things he said were always good for a laugh or two. It was Frank that made the games hard to watch/listen.
