Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Or go to Albany and then up and around.

Not sure it's going to avoid the problem, though. The map cuts off at the Watertown 24-36. For all we know at Potsdam there might be another bump of 48-60.

I think I've been to the North Country 4 times. Only one time was there even any snow on the ground at all. My mental image of that place is basically Wales: a constant 37-degree drizzle.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Option A - I-95 -> NJT -> GSP ->I-287/I-87 ->I-87 ->Adirondacks at Warrensburg (rt 9 ->rt 28 -> rt 30 -> rt 3 -> rt 56)
Option B - I-81 ->I-84 -> I-90 -> I-87 -> Adirondacks at Warrensburg

If you go that way, watch out for the cops in Tupper Lake. Rte 30 goes from 55 to 30 and the cops usually love to wait by the 30mph sign.

He speaks the truth about the law enforcement in Tupper.

put a - in front of the 37 and welcome to a North Country winter! But lake effect snow does not make it that far West.
(Weatherbug says Thursday light snow with dusting to 2". Thurs night 1 - 3" after midnight. Friday 4-6" total accumulation). But they have big plows up there!

Triangle on 206 is the same way. And don't get me started on the exits from 88, where they shoot you as you hit the off ramp and you find out at the bottom of the hill that they're going to write you up against the 30 mph sign that has fallen over.

92% of Central NY local revenue must come from speeding tickets issued to college students.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

I'd rather have to "live my life" in the cold than a blizzard or ice storm - both of which have caused me to skip games.

yep. hazardous driving conditions are different. but afraid your tootsies will get chilly? come on. during one of the polar vortices last year, a local grocery store closed out of "concern for their customers and employees". what????? customers are there by choice. employees are all adults and should know how to dress for the weather, and if you have a job at a grocery store, I assume you can afford a hat and a pair of mittens.

On my way north from day 2 of FL-NNY, I turned off I-95 at Baltimore and went I-83 -> I-78 -> I-287. Lovely weather that afternoon/evening told me NJT (and more importantly GWB) would be a CharlieFoxtrot. Although I-83 -> I-81 -> I-84 -> I-87 was also an option.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

my rough prediction for my 10-mile commute home today, in the snow: 107 minutes

Is a polar vortex the same thing that used to be called an arctic wedge that was the same thing that used to be called an alberta clipper?

Dude, we've had the what to wear on cold days conversations umpteen times since about 6th grade.

I was just thrilled that it finally bit him in the ***. :D

Today, on a colder day, he wore a long sleeve polo, his warmup jacket and his team beanie. Still no gloves, but progress was made. :rolleyes:

Why not make him get on the bus instead of driving him? That really grinds kids these days :)

No, in Maine an Alberta clipper is a quick moving, out of the north snow storm, see today's weather here. On another note it's 40 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time

34 mile commute from the heart of Chicago home to the suburbs, normally an hour-fifteen in good weather took three hours. :mad: :(

mine was only 65 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. No cars off the road, either (unlike this morning).

An Alberta clipper is a snow storm that (at least for MN) originates from Alberta with fast moving winds. A polar vortex is very cold weather that comes down from polar regions. I don't know about the polar wedge.
