Four successive days of above-freezing weather from dawn to dusk. Roofs are all clear of snow, the ground still has about 12" to 15" everywhere.
The once six-foot tall pile of snow at the bottom of the driveway is now about 4 feet tall.
The local public works people are pretty happy so far that we are seeing slow steady melting, they are praying for no rain until the snow levels are much lower.
Meanwhile, it is quite obvious that the skunks are emerging from hibernation.
it's my understanding that their mating season is just about now, so that we will be well aware of their presence for the next two or three weeks, before they subside back to their inoffensive nocturnal habits.

Almost all of our snow is gone as well. Only a few spots left from where it really drifted up, was piled up, or that are in a shady spot. At least the risk of our barn flooding is pretty much over with at the moment. Just need the frost to start getting out of the ground now.

Skunks have been out and about in our neighborhood as of late... Seems to be moreso than years past... Basically smelling one every morning

Until the freezing weather came back Tuesday night, we'd had about ten consecutive days in which it was above freezing from around dawn to dusk. The yard (and neighbors') is still completely snow covered, except for one small patch on the southwest side of the shed, which seems to be clear because of reflected sunlight.
That being said, it looks quite a bit different. We have two Adirondack chairs out back. At one time, you could only see the top 6 inches of the back, the arms were completely covered. Now, you can see the seat, only the bottoms of the legs are covered.
We have several inches of snow in the forecast for tomorrow.
The difference between where we live and Manhattan is striking. About halfway in between, the ground is almost completely bare of snow, a combination of less snowfall, more rain, and warmer weather. Central Park has been snow-free since last week.

Snow is pretty much black in infrared. As objects absorb solar energy and warm, they re-radiate in IR range so snow south of a tree or shed absorbs the IR and melts.

We had less than an inch at work, and all my coworkers were looking at me like I was nuts. I heard it didn't even snow at all in the city. Where I live is really weird -- it seems like we often get snowfalls that are the opposite of the city and Fairfax Cty. When they get creamed we get nothing, and vice-versa. I do notice that on the NOAA forecasts we are always on the border between bands. We do have some interesting terrain -- the Potomac valley and the Catoctin range -- but the valley is narrow and the "mountains" are gentle foothills, nothing that I would think would have any real effect. We are near the end of a long "shoot" that comes out of central Ohio (they built the B&O like that for a reason), so maybe we are actually getting an entirely separate weather system from what is happening south of the river.
