Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

That ain't happening here for a few more weeks, depending on future snow storms, might be into April

Well, truth be told some of our bare spots out in the field are really just where we dumped horse manure. Some of the snow had covered it up earlier and its showing up now. :o

Ha! Truth be told, the bare spots in our back yard were spots that places that I had partially shoveled because our poor dog didn't have a place to s**t because the snow was too deep.

The exciting news for me is that a few of the solar panels, which have been operational for a few weeks now, have finally cleared enough that some of them are actually producing power!

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

NO bare spots here even after 2 days above freezing. Today was 46. The roof is dripping. I guess that is good.

FIOS has dropped the Weather Channel in favor of AccuWeather. Guess they thought weather was more important than reality shows.

Give it time; AccuWeather will soon succumb once they're bought up by one of the big six (if they aren't already).

I've seen some robins around my driveway, on the edges where there's a little grass showing.

Then I could join the hoards of people posting pics of their dog going out in a blizzard to do their business :p
that or be complaining about having to pick up a winter's worth of doggy bombs out of the yard. ;)

I have heard a few reports of robins around here as well.

Lot of melt here today. had to go out and stomp a trench through a ditch so that water could move through it, help move it away from the barn so it doesn't flood the barn. It was pretty cool to see it when I had gotten it cleared out and it opened up, just had a huge rush of water heading downhill in a hurry.

Dam. Wrong thread. Moved it to the gear grinder.

Still, Mr. Checkwriter isn't a ringing endorsement for not using autopayment systems. :p

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Monday, yesterday, this morning, I heard a wonderful sound: the sound of water running through the downspouts! :)

Reminds me of one of the most joyous scenes in literature: in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, when the children first arrive in Narnia, it is "always winter and never Christmas." Then, it starts to thaw as spring is finally coming. Those two pages or so of description of winter transitioning to spring are really wonderful.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Real melt here. the sun is coming over the hill and all the water dripping looks like crystals. Was out in bare feet this AM. A little brisk but it was over freezing :)

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

There's barely any snow left on the ground here in MN. It might not be rare in the strictest sense of th word, but it's not common for us to have next to no snow remaining on the ground this early in the year.

Just the opposite in New England. Even after several days of temperatures above 0[SUP]o[/SUP] C / 32[SUP]o[/SUP] F, we still have substantial snow cover, it takes awhile for that much to melt. It is unusual to have any snow on the ground in mid-March here.

Very interesting to notice that, in the driveway at least, the snow appears to be melting from the bottom up instead of from the top down. Stuff laying on top of the snow is not sinking into it; instead, the entire level of the snow is just getting lower and lower as the melt water runs downhill underneath it.

Greetings from Lake Placid! Got to take the company jet here. That's always fun. Quick flight. They have less snow here than I do at home. One of the events was supposed to be an exhibition of ski joking and there was too much snow melt here do that's not going to happen. Ironic.

Ya, that area got really shafted on the snow totals this year. I lived in the lowlands NW of there (and spent most of the winter there, ironically), and we had more snow than some areas of the mountains did.

Instead, it was just very, very cold.
