Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Good riddance February '15. You sucked. Don't ever return.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Freezing rain now in Colesville, MD. Oldest boy ordered pizza. Driveway was being considered for the RedBull Crashed Ice series, so I had to clear a path for the pizza man. Son gets the pizza, delivery guy gets large tip. I get wet.

Getting the garbage cans down to the street tonight will be an adventure.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

We get the "wreck your car" weather on Tuesday. Snow-sleet-rain-freezing rain-sleet-rain. High of 38. The main roads are going to be like a luge.

Winter man law. He who orders the pizza should do the snow removal, or at least aid the pizza guy in getting his car unstuck.

Ha ha!

Of course, March 1, we get 10" of new snow.

It is getting so high in places that I cannot even lift the new stuff over the sides of the old stuff already piled up at the bottom of the driveway. Gave up on keeping the driveway clear a long time ago, just have a path down it the width of the snow blower. Shovel / blow out the bottom of the driveway to park the cars (no on-street parking allowed, otherwise plows couldn't make it through). Snow in the driveway is about 32" high. The mounds at either side of the base of it are higher than I am tall. If I were to climb one to the top, I could dunk a basketball from it without leaving my feet.

This morning was interesting. The cars and the driveway were laminated by ice. I wish I'd taken a photo of the ice sheet I peeled off my car -- from front windshield to roof to back it came off in one sheet -- VERY satisfying, like peeling an orange with one twist. I'd have had the hood, too, but the wipers broke the plane of the ice too much and created a fault line.

Took me about 15 minutes to chip the ice off my car last night in West Chester PA ----- then had a 3 1/2 hour drive through the ice/snow. At least there wasn't a major pileup on the PA Turnpike --- just a couple of times being stuck behind plows doing the 20mph conga line.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Was eating lunch today by a window and heard a loud noise. Just outside the window, an ice dam had come down, bringing a flimsy, pretty much useless rain gutter down with it. Missed the hitting the window by a couple of inches. Now at least I don't have any excuse not to take down the gutter when I can get to it.

Jim Cantore in DC for this snowfall.

THUNDERSNOW - The Movie.

Schools (including PSU) and businesses closed today. We're still waiting for more than a few flakes. The sky isn't falling!

though that might change quickly.....

Looked out the window at 3:45 this morning, the street was clear. When I went down to the car at 5:15, it had been snowing a bit already, and I had to brush the windows clear. Now at 8:45 the snow is really coming down thick and fast. I'll probably have to dig my car out at the train station parking lot before I can go home, the snowplow operators there seem to take delight in seeing how many cars they can mound over with snow. :(

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

This past Thursday reminded me of the story of the pass of Caradhras, from The Fellowship of the Rings book version.

It snowed heavily all day, I get to the train station, have to brush 6 inches of snow off the loaner car and dig out the pile of snow left by the snow plows clearing the parking lot. Then I take the loaner back to the repair shop to pick up my car (he leaves it for me after hours with the bill above the visor); where I have to brush snow off of it too. Then I drive home, and have to shovel out the bottom of the driveway to have a place to park.

Supposedly the last big blast of the winter. We'll see.

There's hope out there yet. Currently enjoying a warm up here today, melting off the icy crust we got to our snow earlier this week. There's a few bare spots appearing now from the warmth of the sun, and the ice on our driveway is breaking up as well.

Two days of mostly sun and 40s and I was able to clear the ice from the driveway, but still too thick where we park the cars. Need skates in a couple of spots!

yep. same here. And driving home this morning we had a snow squall that was pretty impressive for a day with nothing at all predicted for precipitation
