Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

When we lived in Chicago and in Wyoming, I had a nice warm windproof down parka that kept me warm even on those -25[SUP]o[/SUP]F days before windchill was factored in.

Since we moved to the Northeast 14 years ago, I've worn that parka maybe 4 times total throughout that entire time period.....until this winter. 8 times already the past two weeks, with more on the way.

When I go out to the car at 5:30 in the morning, the water vapor in my breath from the drive home the night before has frosted on the inside of the windshield!

(the colder the air, the less humidity it holds, and since it is relatively "warmer" driving home, especially after the heater has been running, the "inside" air when I get out of the car has more humidity than the frigid morning air can hold, and so it condenses and then freezes on the windows).

Well duh. Wait, are there places where this DOESN'T happen in the winter?? I mean other than the south.

It is unusual for us in winter to have frost on the inside of the windshield. Most winters, the coldest it gets is about 10[SUP]o[/SUP] F, even 0[SUP]o[/SUP] F has been atypical.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

I've been in Dayton all week, and I am kind of digging the cold. Of course, it helps that I get to go home tomorrow. You poor ba$tards.

Boston has received more snow in three weeks than Chicago has ever gotten in an entire winter. And there are storms on the way for Tuesday and Thursday.
We got three inches last night and a front formed right (wrong) so we're getting another six tonight. And we should get 6-10 more on Saturday night. I really don't know where I'll put it. This morning the piles started caving back into the driveway. :(

Its currently -15 here in SE Michigan. That just ain't right.
There is so little snow in most of Alaska they moved the restart of the Iditarod to Fairbanks. It's been a weird winter.

In 2014 Anchorage went the full year without ever getting below zero (it got below zero last month (.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Is anyone else sick and tired of weather stories? It isn't news that winter is cold, sometimes really cold and it's not news that summer is hot, sometimes really hot.

Reporters just like saying really large positive or negative numbers. :-/

!! for years now. Every time it rains, every time it gets windy, yada yada yada.

That's the problem with advertiser-sponsored "news." Everything gets sensationalized because they "need more eyeballs" to sell more ads at higher prices. :(

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

I mean, I love talking the weather. But seeing news story after news story on it and people acting like this is somehow novel that we have four seasons...

Because it impacts huge numbers of people, from farmers and ski slopes to school kids (and parents) and elderly shut-ins. Pretty much every person is impacted by the weather, but the news should just ignore it...great logic...you should start your own news channel that is devoted to never mentioning the weather and see how long it stays on the air.
