SNC is in the Midwest Conference in their 19 other sports, as is LU, LFC, and 6 other schools* that don't have hockey. They could go under the MC umbrella, and ask SSC and the other 6 MCHA schools, not in the MC, to join as associate members. This would avoid making any concessions to the 5 WIAC schools, while keeping the integrity of their program.
Having proven teams like SNC, SSC, and Adrian in the same conference would lend great credibility to the league. As Hammer said before, "the teams in the MCHA have raised the bar and will continue to do so". This gives this conference 10 solid hockey teams, with an option for future growth. A move like this would also give the Midwest Conference a presence in 5 states (WI, MN, MI, IL,& IA).
Point is, SNC and SSC have other options available to them. They don't need the WIAC , the WIAC needs them. Where is the WIAC going to get the teams necessary to gain the AQ. The other UW schools have either recently dropped hockey, or have publicaly indicated no desire to start a hockey program.
BTW,*other MC schools are Beloit (WI), Carroll (WI), Ripon (WI), Grinnell (IA), Knox (IL), Monmouth (IL), and Illinois College (IL).
