Why teams can’t win the NCAA championship

Probably sheer fantasy, but your post got me to thinking that if a certain Eastern coach had been even more remiss in her selections, Amanda Kessel scores two goals against Clarkson and the Gophers win four in a row. Or less remiss and Hannah Brandt scores a goal in regulation and we get to hear the national anthem after women's hockey at the Olympics for the first time since 1998.
we did hear the national anthem, just not the one you wanted to hear.

Cute, but yes, I should have written "our" national anthem rather than "the" national anthem in my prior post.

I believe that there are Canadians on this board, so even saying "our" is not the best choice to use. Furthermore, I wanted Canada to win as there were 4 Terriers on the Canadian team and none on the U.S. team. So I heard the national anthem I wanted to hear. :)

Those first five words "I wanted Canada to win"? Fine if you are a Canadian citizen but if you are a US citizen...

Once players, even those from rival college teams, put on the USA jersey, all that matters is that they are now playing for "our" country

no, you had it right the first time

anyone reading your post knew exactly what you meant,
especially most Canadians since they did get to hear their national anthem, THEY KNEW PRECISELY WHAT YOU MEANT

it's just a minority that get ruffled feathers over what you said
it's their problem

I agree. I want former Gophers playing for other countries to do well individually. But as for wanting Canada to defeat kids representing my country? No. There are a lot of places online where I can go and listen to the Canadian anthem, which is a very nice song, if I'm so inclined.

Also, I agree that "our" is a correct usage. Context and antecedent must always be considered for pronoun reference. We can't help those who are confused about their identity. ;)
