Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

Let's play "pick 'em". I'll start:

Colorado Select vs. National Sports Academy
Shattuck-St. Mary's vs. LA Selects
Assabet Valley vs. New Jersey Rockets
Chicago Mission vs. Little Caesars

Then:

Shattuck-St. Mary's vs. National Sports Academy
Assabet Valley vs. Little Caesar's

Then:

Shattuck-St. Mary's vs. Assabet Valley

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

Colorado over NSA
SSM over LA
NJ over Assabet (Assabet has looked vulnerable all weekend)
Mission over LC (key injury to LC)

Here are the playoff match-ups for the U19s:

Semis: Coloardo vs. SSM

Assebet vs. Mission

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

Changing the topic slightly, but if anyone from Mass can explain this to me...

I noticed that at the Tier II U19 Nationals, the Mass Spitfires are absolutely destroying teams...

How is it that they have managed to register themselves as a Tier II team when their website makes statements such as

"On occasion, players selected for a Tier II team may be asked to participate in a Tier I team’s games, practices, or tournaments and may also be added to the National Bound roster at any time during the season."

To me, this clearly means that the top team at each level is a Tier I team.

I don't even know if the Spitfires have a second U19 team or not, but if they do, the team playing at Nationals is not it...for Michelle Picard, Haley Frade, and some of the other girls on this roster surely wouldn't have been cut from the top team.

If they don't, then it looks to me like the Spitfires took the sleazy way out and registered their top team as a Tier II team so they could avoid Assabet and have a chance to go to Nationals against obviously inferior opponents.

On the surface, unless I am missing something, this looks pretty lame to me. If the powers that be at the Spitfires are really robbing other players who are legitimately playing at that level of the chance to win a Championship, then they should be ashamed.

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

Semis: Coloardo vs. SSM

Assebet vs. Mission

Brackets have come down to American #1 seed vs National #2 and National #1 vs Anerican #2. I'm predicting a #1 seed finals with American on top.

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

Shattuck will play Assabet tomorrow for championship

scores from semis

Shattuck-St. Mary's 7 Colorado Select 4
Assabet Valley 6 Chicago Mission 1

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

My bet: AV vs SSM in the final, SSM wins.

OnMAA,

Me thinks you know a thing or two about top tier female hockey - nice job nailing the final match up:

2010 USA Hockey U19 National Championship Game
SSM vs. AV tomorrow at 1 PM Central

Semifinal Results:
SSM 7-4 over Colorado Select
AV 6-1 over Chicago Mission

Time (and the hockey gods) will tell if OnMAA's winner is spot on as well. From what I saw in both semis - should be a great game tomorrow. Good luck to both teams!!!

PS - Potentially could be the same U16 final, it is SSM (defeated Anaheim Lady Ducks 4-0) vs. either AV or Little Caesars. Best of luck to those teams as well!!!

While OnMAA is quite knowledgeable (and a nice person on top of it), choosing a different championship game would be predicting an upset of sorts. SSM has the advantage of being able to choose some of the best girls from around the country (provided they can afford tuition). Not sure how many girls are from out of state on the Assabett team. Appears they only have 2 out of state girls rostered. Simply a great organization, always on top.

Best of luck to both teams tomorrow.

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

Does anybody know who won (scores) the Pdub final four and U19 Natty`s...

It's over on most fronts...

The winners are:

U19 Tier 1...AV over SSM, 1-0 in OT (I'm cashing in tomorrow :) )
PWHL...Aeros over Missy, 2-1.
CEGEP...Montpetit over Lafleche 5-4.
Ontario U17...Thunderbay over Stoney 1-0.
USA U16 T1...SSM over LC, 4-1.

The Canadian Midget champs to take place in a couple of weeks. Thunderbay is the Ontario Rep, Richelieu Remparts are the Quebec Reps.

Well, Got the finals right, but missed on both semi's. Better than my prediction, however. Then again, I was looking at underdogs (as stated earlier) moving on. It would have been nice to see a Mission/Colorado final, as these are more "pure" club teams, with very few girls from outside the immediate area. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong on my classification of Assabet. I assume that some, perhaps many, girls that play for them aren't from the area and are only with the organization since they attend prep school nearby.)

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

Assabet Valley's U19 Roster, other than two exceptions, is otherwise made up entirely of girls who reside less than an hour's drive from the rink, and many much closer than that.

The two exceptions...Ashley Salerno from Maine who has been a faithful member of AV for many years, and does NOT attend a New England Prep School, meanwhile Ann Doherty formerly of Team Illiinois is admttedly the type of player that you are thinking of and does indeed attend a very prominent New England Prep School (alma mater of George W. Bush among others).

Beyond those two exceptions, these are girls from the greater Boston area who have nearly all been regulars with AV for many, many years.

They are a club team, and anything less than full and true congratulations would be simply inappropriate.

Way to go, girls!!! :D

Re: Who will win the "National" USA Invitational 19U tournament

With only 2 out of area players on the roster, AV beating SSM is truly a fine accomplishment. Congratulations to them.

I take it from your post on another blog that you have looked below the surface and you were missing something.

No the Spitfires did not take the sleazy way out and should not be ashamed of themselves. They and another organization in Mass Hockey were placed in a very difficult situation by the Massachusett District.
