Watched Casablanca and All About Eve on the plane last week. The latter still holds up really, really well. Great film.

The former is well-shot and highly quotable, but love triangle plots don't hold up very well here in the 21st century, outside of soap operas, IMO.

He seems to talk about children a lot. Gross

A The High and the Mighty / Airplane! double feature would be interesting.

Re: Who is in your Deadpool for Solo: Infinity War

I know that many here are fairly passive towards comic book movies, but I think we have a story that is showing a greater slice of Hollywood and politics in our society:

James Gunn was removed from the MCU and Gardians of the Galaxy 3 over tweets made ~10 years ago.

I think this is a huge misstep on Disney’s part and I really have to question our current state of society over this. It’s really shameful that we have become this soft as a society....

Sorry but I think they made the right decision. It seems unfair that something he did way back when should bite him in the butt but that has been happening all over the place the last few years and just because he is a popular director and an unabashed liberal doesnt make him immune. He would most likely be one of the people calling for the firing if it wasnt him who got the axe which is why he didnt even put up a fight.

If this was some Faux News correspondent (or say Vince Vaughn or another of the conservatives in Hollywood) with the exact same scenario every liberal would be screaming bloody murder. Either the rules apply to everyone or they apply to no one. He had to know that with his proclivity towards attacking the Right that they would find something to use against him sooner or later.

Let's remember this when Disney re-releases Peter Pan, Lady & the Tramp, or basically anything pre-1960 with it's blatant racism. Kinda hypocritical, no?

Society has changed. People change. What's "acceptable" has changed... We need to look at things in their context... It's becoming a witchunt on both sides with ridiculous results.

It's not like Rosanne making current tweets. Disney did this to show that they play both sides even though they are drastically different situations.

Song of the South has been suppressed for decades.

Um, Splash Mountain is based on the movie. Pretty sure that's considered a signature ride at Disney's parks. It could have been redone in any number of ways.

And they still sing and promote Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.

I prefer Casablanca. I think it holds up very well. IMO.

We wanted to see Ant Man today but time constraints said otherwise so we settled for Skyscraper. It is what it is but I'd have rather watched on cable than paid for it.

btw I don't think you need to play 6 degrees of separation with Dwayne Johnson. Something tells me you'd only need 3. My goodness.

The 4th Company:

In 1970s Mexico prison, cons are recruited to the football team, and then are expected to serve as the Management's enforcers (and commit outside crimes). Based on a true story.

Decent movie, shows how corrupt the prisons, government, etc were (and are, just a bit more concealed). Tried to find some outside info, but not a lot out there about this specific group. Lots of real video/pics mixed in with the movie. Worth a watch.

Secret In Their Eyes:

A tight-knit team of rising investigators, along with their supervisor, is suddenly torn apart when they discover that one of their own teenage daughters has been brutally murdered. Then, 13 years later, one of the agents re-opens the case.

Pretty solid movie, good twists. It's a flashback-present day telling, really gives depth to the characters. Julia Roberts plays a fantastic Frances McDormand-type character from "3 Billboards...". Extremely well done.

If you like a bit of intrigue and who-dunnit, I'd recommend.

Forgotten:

One rainy evening, Jin-Seok sees his older brother being thrown into a van by a group of men. After 19 days of silence, Yoo-Seok returns home, but he doesn't remember anything from his disappearance. Jin-Seok though notices enough changes in his older brother's personality and behavior that he begins to suspect that the person who has returned is not Yoo-Seok.

Advertised as a crime drama, it's deeper than that. Add "psychological" to it, and there you go. Very well done with the twists. Kelly (GPL poster) nailed it on my recent bday that I would watch some movie (probably Asian). The reason is they really weave a story, compared to American mainstream (American indie is more subtle in this regard). American mainstream is far more direct, overall.

Anyway, if you like minimal foreshadowing and the slightest of clues as to what is really happening, this movie is for you.
