Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Got a Finn Brothers playlist that includes the best from: Split Enz, Crowded House, Neil Solo, Tim Solo, Neil & Tim together, and Live at the St. James (Neil with members of Radiohead, Johnny Marr, Eddie Vedder, Tim & more) and Together in Concert (Tim with Dave Dobbyn & Bic Runga).

Great stuff from brilliant songwriters/songcrafters.

Paradise wherever you are...

Pink Floyd's "The Wall". Forgotten how much I love this album and Floyd. I was lucky enough to see Roger Waters perform it on his tour and wow. Best show I've ever been too, loved every second of it and the production of it all was amazing.

I have shockingly never bought Animals or Wish You Were Here...must do that ASAP.

Animals and the Wall are my two favorites by Floyd.

There's a live album of the Wall titled "Is There Anybody Out There?" from the 80-81 tour. I actually listen to that far more than the studio album.

Also saw Roger's production of the Wall and thought it was outstanding.

If you still have a VCR, I think I still have a bootleg copy of the original Wall Tour you can have.

Dunno if you know this, but crank the first couple seconds and last couple seconds of The Wall. You'll hear:

first couple seconds "...we came in?"
last couple seconds "Isn't this where..."

I have grown to love "Animals," and obviously "Wish You Were Here" is one of their better albums.

I have seen the movie about the Wall. I love the cartoons from it and
The puppets that appeared in the concert. They were freaking badass. He also updated some of the themes too match some of the troubled times we live in. And I had forgotten exactly what was said at the beginning and end of the album.

I have their entire catalog and very much enjoy all of the aforementioned as well as Zabriskie Point, Saucerful of Secrets and Meddle. Easily my favorte band.

Currently listening to Hello Nasty, Paul's Boutique and Ill Communication.

The Black Keys: Brothers

Started with their recent "El Camino" a few weeks ago--blues driven rock. Like it a lot.

But I also like the pared down, rawer sound of Brothers.

Any of you familiar with their 5 albums prior to Brothers? Recommendations?

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Hopefully they don't let the non-country fools mess up too many songs during the CMT Music Awards tonight. I hate it when they ruin good songs like that.

I have Magic Potion and Attack and Release. I like them a lot. I have heard tracks off of The Big Come Up, Thickfreakness, and Rubber Factory, and I dig them as well. As you may have guessed, the earlier you go in their discography the more raw and minimalist it is. Lower fidelity recordings as well.

My favorite is probably Brothers right now, but El Camino is catching up slightly with every listen.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

I <3 "Mezzanine" by Massive Attack, and I really want to check out more from them. Also, what are some other artists in the same genre as Massive Attack?

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

For the Black Keys I have Brothers, Moan EP, Attack and Release and Thickfreakness. They're all very good but I would probably tell someone to start with Thickfreakness if they wanted to get away from the radio-suff.

btw - minor quibble but I find it odd that so many CDs that I download via iTunes (actual CDs I bought and in which it recognizes the name, song titles, etc.) can't find the ablum cover and I have to copy them from Google images - many of which aren't all that obscure (Exile on Main Street for example). I know there's a logical reason and it's an easy fix, but still...

[edit] now listening to Big Head Todd & the Monsters Sister Sweetly and Midnight Radio.

[edit II] I finally got my hands back on The Replacements Sorry Ma Forgot to Take Out the Trash, Stink and Hootenany which I had buried in a box for a few years. Very excited to hear them again, especially after reading Jim Walsh's book "All Over But the Shouting: An Oral History" about the band.
