I understand. Two women who were my best friends at NMU... one went on to justify everything from George Floyd to Jacob Blake, and the other thinks she's a "refugee" from Michigan due to our C-19 restrictions.

Dump brought out my dad's brother's true colors. It was always there under the surface, but he and Wife #2 - whose weird anti-gubmint upbringing by a convicted tax evader father makes her views even kookier than his - are emboldened to say it all out loud now. Which is why every time they claim my grandfather allegedly said something that made her cry, I have a hard time finding much sympathy.

Right, but no one is saying hijack the conversation. What they're saying is that "I know what you're going through. It was hard for me when XYZ happened." isn't a de facto hijack nor is it abnormal or showing a lack of empathy.
