What I Learned Today...

Re: What I Learned Today...

I'm a little scared now. I don't think it'd be wise to ever ride in the back seat of a car while you're in the passenger seat up front.

Would you like a microeconomics lesson confirming the futility of a per-can deposit such as that? It has to do with the shifting of tax burdens, and why it's largely ineffective in inducing behavior at levels expected by the politicos, and reducing sales tax revenues to boot. It's all quite interesting - if you're not bored by microeconomics, that is. ;)
Why don't you just shut your Pie Hole and let me have my dimes mother thumper!! :p :p ;)

Re: What I Learned Today...

I'm in a thread-starting rampage, I think...

ANYWAY....

So I learned something today, and of course, I'm going to share with one and all in USCHO land.

Well, I'm not much of a cook. However, as of late, I've started to get into it a little more. So there's this recipe that I'm going to try tomorrow. It calls for 6 cloves of garlic as one of the ingredients. I go to the store and get all the ingredients I need for this recipe, including the garlic.

Today, my roommate needed 2 cloves of garlic for her recipe. She asks if she can use my garlic... And I think, "Well ****... if I give her 2, I will only have 4 left..... That's not enough for my recipe, but it seems like there is more than enough there..."

Being the nice person I am, I cannot tell her no! "Sure........." She can tell that I look somewhat hesitant. She's like, "Dude... do you know what a CLOVE of garlic is?" Apparently I did not. Well now I do now. I thought BULBS were cloves. But they are not. However, they do contain about 10 cloves each. Let's just say that I have PLENTY of garlic and giving her 2 cloves is not really a big deal. But OMG... if not for her, I probably would've put like six BULBS of garlic in my recipe....! Eeek!

============================================

So let's use this thread to share silly things that we learn or have learned at a later point in life than we probably should have. Then we can go back and forth and make fun of one another. This thread will be a failure, but that's okay. Many of the things I do are failures.

But in my defense... come on... I never really have cooked! So how the hell was I supposed to know?! :o

You're not alone.

Re: What I Learned Today...

Uh, yeah. I love using onions when I'm cooking, but I cannot stand cutting them. I'm sorry, but being blinded while using a knife. No thanks.

In the interest of learning, here's a tip for everyone that has worked well for me. Keep onions in the refrigerator. Keeping them cold limits the release of whatever it is in them. I've never had problems with onions except for the few times that I went to cook as soon as I got home from the store and had room temperature onion. That stings.

Re: What I Learned Today...

I have to be as a teacher. So its for my career. So there.

This. :(

What really gets me is the high percentage of people I see around Marquette fishing through garbage cans to pick a wayward can out. The best is the guy who is clearly on his afternoon workout run who plans his route around strategic cans on campus.
The save the cans/deposits for a collective fund is actually pretty common. I know of a couple friends who did that in their respective houses. One place used it as an emergency fund for someone who couldn't make their share of expenses, etc. The others were saving it for an end of the year party that never materialized. It also turned out that one of the guys who lived there was using it as his personal "rainy day" fund.

Re: What I Learned Today...

Flashy Man did. I used it. I switched back to the knife. I was not impressed by that particular gadget.

you probably weren't using it right. That "gadget" has changed the way I cook.

Why you retards get so upset over a dime is beyond me. Yes, I've read the rainy day fund and pay bills, but throw some money in a savings account or something. I shouldn't be surprised since you have phone booths still though.

He's already admitted to not buying a legit Slap Chop.
And, hey, I don't drink all that much pop/soda anyway, and the beer I drink I can't get deposit on because it's bottled in WI, so this doesn't really apply to me that much (I did pretend to get ticked when Brent crushed that KBC fan, just to be "predictable". )

And you're the best Yooper of them all. :)
