What I Learned Today...

Re: What I Learned Today...

I'm in a thread-starting rampage, I think...

ANYWAY....

So I learned something today, and of course, I'm going to share with one and all in USCHO land.

Well, I'm not much of a cook. However, as of late, I've started to get into it a little more. So there's this recipe that I'm going to try tomorrow. It calls for 6 cloves of garlic as one of the ingredients. I go to the store and get all the ingredients I need for this recipe, including the garlic.

Today, my roommate needed 2 cloves of garlic for her recipe. She asks if she can use my garlic... And I think, "Well ****... if I give her 2, I will only have 4 left..... That's not enough for my recipe, but it seems like there is more than enough there..."

Being the nice person I am, I cannot tell her no! "Sure........." She can tell that I look somewhat hesitant. She's like, "Dude... do you know what a CLOVE of garlic is?" Apparently I did not. Well now I do now. I thought BULBS were cloves. But they are not. However, they do contain about 10 cloves each. Let's just say that I have PLENTY of garlic and giving her 2 cloves is not really a big deal. But OMG... if not for her, I probably would've put like six BULBS of garlic in my recipe....! Eeek!

============================================

So let's use this thread to share silly things that we learn or have learned at a later point in life than we probably should have. Then we can go back and forth and make fun of one another. This thread will be a failure, but that's okay. Many of the things I do are failures.

But in my defense... come on... I never really have cooked! So how the hell was I supposed to know?! :o

Let's see. 6 bulbs times 10 cloves per bulb is 60 cloves. You gave away 2 and used 6. So you have 52 cloves left to repel some vampires. :D

Seriously, how did you fail at this?

Re: What I Learned Today...

Here is another thing I just learned! This is good stuff. Wish I knew this before I went and bought SIX farking bulbs of garlic. What will I do with all of that??! I think maybe I'll just leave it around random areas at work.

Take a whole bulb, set it on a piece of aluminum foil, drizzle with olive oil, fold the foil up tightly, set in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes or so. Get some french bread, slice, take the bulb apart, squeeze a clove on a piece of bread, spread it around, eat, repeat:D , make sure everyone you are around is eating this also:p

Re: What I Learned Today...

To be fair, there are probably like 3 Italians in the entire UP.

FAIL.

Dickinson County is lousy with them. See Mariucci, Steve and Izzo, Tom.

I was the PA announcer for my high school's basketball teams, and the one team I always dreaded coming to town was Iron Mountain, because they'd have a minimum of three unpronouncable Italian names per team.

.

I worked at the Mid-Peninsula Conference track meet 2 years ago. Between the Italians from Iron Mountain and the Finns from Negaunee/Ishpeming/Westwood, I think maybe 2 names could easily be spelled/pronounced.

Re: What I Learned Today...

Were you touching your eyes while you were cutting them?

Breathe through your mouth or chew on something like gum or bread while you're cutting them.

Re: What I Learned Today...

Not so!! :(

Another thing I learned today.... uh, cooking with raw onions is probably similar to being sprayed in the face with pepper spray. JFC! I couldn't open my eyes for a good five minutes!

Maybe this is one reason why I HATE onions.
Onions suck....never use onions...

Onions are disgusting. I won't eat anything that has any trace of them. Ugh, gross...

Try doing it immediately after removing the contacts you've been wearing for a week and a half nonstop. The first breath of fresh air for my eyeballs and it's that! Yikes!

So I don't know what a fooper is, but I think this should qualify you as one. ;)
