What are people doing Friday?

Re: What are people doing Friday?

The Yale Bowl is a big hole in the ground, but it's still awesome. It's also half the size.

The whole point, I think, is that it's cool to see a stadium that you've never seen before.

I spent a summer in A2 a couple years ago. The Big House *was* a letdown. If you just want to check it out, you can't go wrong -- it'll be there. :)

But I sort of see where Statedude is coming from. The football stadium was near the top of my list of places to see in Ann Arbor, before I got there. Having lived there for a few months, I'd knock it way down the list.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great town. You could do a lot worse on Friday than drive to A2 and poke around.

Re: What are people doing Friday?

We will be downtown at the game Friday and partying afterwards, and driving is no where in our future when we park Thursday afternoon at the Greektown Casino hotel, until we leave Sunday. Maybe a cab though!

Featherbowling is a blast, and yes, a bigger blast with a few beers.

Check out this short video I found on the Cadieux Cafe and it shows Featherbowling for those who have never seen it before.

Word of advise if you are seriously thinking of doing this.... call for a reservation. They only have two lanes and they fill up fast.

Looks like a blast!!

Re: What are people doing Friday?

Yes the home opener is sold out, however there may be one last thing you can do to buy a face value ticket at the box office. This worked for us a few years ago before we started buying the package which includes opening day.

The day before the game, we called the box office and asked if any additional tickets were made available. To our surprise, they said yes and we ended up sitting in the upper deck right field handicapped accessible seating area.

Comerica has lots of these areas along to front rows of the upper deck and some in the lower deck along the concourse area.

My wife and I sat in regular seats, but we had a big space between the next group of seats, presumably for wheel chairs, of which their were none in site...

Think about it, it's a mad house on opening day with more people on the outside partying than there are on the inside, so only the very die hard fans that are handicapped may venture out for the game. Plus the weather is always iffy for opening day. When Comerica opened in 2000, we sat through a very cold and snowy day, and that was on April 11th!... Today in Detroit it will hit 80!

Give it a shot... Call maybe two days before, and then again the day before depending on what they say.

The box office # is 1.313.471.BALL

I think they open at 10:00am on non-game days.

I used this trick in 2006 and saw Kenny Rogers win against Oakland, 3-0. We had super padded folding chairs, with cup-holders. I actually used the Tigers' web site. There were no tickets at 8:59 AM, and at 9:00 AM we got the two handicapped seats! And there was 4 inches of snow on the ground that morning, up Nort. By game time it was perfect, just cold!!!

Re: What are people doing Friday?

Not sure what I'm doing on Friday yet, but for anyone bringing their wife who is interested in shopping, especially if the weather is bad, the Somerset Collection Mall is very nice. It's located about a mile west of I-75 on Big Beaver Road in Troy.

Yes, BIG BEAVER Rd is exit "69"

Hmmm, I'm thinking it is a good thing that they're not having Shep and Marco put this event on....though, I'm guessing it would very entertaining if they did.

Marco could give a seminar on how to defend yourself against obese drunken SCSU fans.

Re: What are people doing Friday?

With the on going construction at U-M Stadium I doubt that any one could get into the site. It looks impressive with the new box's down each side. No longer just a big hole that actually has a 'steam shovel' buried under the field.

You might try getting into Yost for a look-see. By now the ice is gone but Schembechler Hall has a nice display of history of football at U-M. There used to be stacks of extra game programs you could help yourself to.

I hope not. 25-30 forum posters are playing hockey there at noon Saturday. Come on over and watch!!!! See the thread in the CAFE.

Better not be- but I should call to confirm our event. I was told that the ice would be taken out on Sunday, after the posters game.

Re: What are people doing Friday?

I'm not saying this because i'm a Spartan...I'm saying this as a sports fan. It's a cool building because it's the biggest in college football, but it really is just a giant hole in the ground. You would be better served going to a local quarry or gravel pit and looking into it for a while. If you are going to go to Ann Arbor though, make use of their awesome museums and galleries. It is an awesome city.

Better than the dump in E. Lansing.

FYI, renovation construction is still ongoing on the big house. RIght now all you can see is the outside of the stadium with the new luxury boxes and press box going up.
