Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Schooley, Renfrew and Blashill are all viable candidates. John Cooper of the USHL Green Bay Gamblers is a name that should be considered. Chris Brooks is also a name that could be considered, as he has had a winning record as a CHL head coach after leaving WMU. He could bring Matt Cressman along from Odessa as an assistant.

If the AD wishes to keep the job in the WMU family, Renfrew is probably the front runner with Schooley and Brooks in the mix. If she prefers to look outside, Blashill, Cooper and Brekke would be the best places to start.

Hire frank Anzalone. He may be called crazy Frank but he will build the program back up and that is what you want and need.

Yeah, he did a great job rebuilding LSSU the second time around. He won fewer games in his four year second term (32) than he won in the final season of his first tour of duty (33).

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Schooley makes me a little uneasy because he already seems to have that Culhane habit of meh followed by knocking off a top team. Robert Morris has 9 wins this year, 4 of which are against teams in the top 5 of the Pairwise.

It's hard to tell because the program is so new, though I think he'll definitely be willing to listen to an offer since RMU is heading to the AHA and their lower scholarship total.

According to some reports in the past. RMU wanted to be in the AHA long before the CHA, but did a favor by filling in the empty slot left by Findlay.

I can't say what will happen here, but Schooley has been very much looking forward to competing in AHA and did not view it as any kind of step down in comptetion.

Ferris State has clinched a fifth place spot in the CCHA. At worst Ferris can tie Michigan for 4th place, but the Wolverines would go ahead in the standings because of Conference wins. So Ferris would be in 5th place with home ice advantage.

All the 'Dawgs need is 1 point, a shootout lose, and they will clinch first round bye in the CCHA.

I think it'd be really tough for anyone with a prior WMU connection to seriously consider the position, particularly if they've already been on staff (Chris Brooks and Scott Garrow). They've already experienced the significant lack of institutional support for the program firsthand. Why would they want to leave successful positions for another round of it?

For the opportunity to move into a head coaching position. Those opportunities are few and far between. There also is usually a pretty nice bump in salary, although Renfrew is probably already in that ballpark at MSU. Brooks is probably one or two good years away from that dollar level in the CHL. Schooley, Garrow and Brekke are probably the ones that would see the biggest bumps.

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

I was just reminded that today is officially the first day without Culhane. This feels good. Guess it's time to find a new signature pic.
