Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Already done. I beat USCHO to it.

And honestly, I am so excited I could hardly come up with anything to write.

From now on, I am going to call you Scoop. ;)

I liked Jim as a person (and am still thankful that he took the time to visit my American Studies classes), but as a coach, there was so much he could have done with these guys that didn't happen.

Bless his heart, but it's time.

Also: to add to your list of possible coaches, I would nominate Mark Osiecki from Wisconsin.

Brekke is an awful coach, don't bother interviewing him, he has no connection to the WMU program, he knows nothing about defense...... ;)

(please don't steal him)

While I think he would be a fine candidate for the job, there are several coaches I think should be ahead of him on our "wish list".

Sounds good to us Miami folk.

Wonder who is on the shortlist. Culhane seems like a first class guy, but 2 winning seasons in just over a decade needs some change.

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Congratulations!

Could you guys continue to suck against NMU once your program makes a complete 180 from where Bailey and Culhane took it? :o

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

I would love to be reunited with my old Lunatic pals for the first game of next season. :D I'm just across the lake, now...the only thing is that it probably coincides with the big end-of-the-season Rendezvous so it may have to be another series.

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

I think he'll be here until the program folds.:(

I am so very happy that I was wrong. He should have been let go years ago. I hope that they will actually look for a coach this time and spend a little time evaluating the situation before they hire someone. Maybe there is hope after all:D .

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Please tell me this isn't some really elaborate prank.

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Ranking those three, in order of likelyhood:

1) Renfrew. Never underestimate the pull of a player's alma mater

2) Powers

3) Pearson. Ain't no way he's leaving Michigan, not with Red's likely retirement within the next 2-3 years. Red is 70 and it's been known for a while that Pearson is next in line. He's been at Michigan since 1988-89. If he wanted another D-1 job he would have been gone by now.

According to USCHO's twitter account, Culhane is gone after this season, reassigned to the office of development.

Link up on the USCHO front page

I can't remember the last time I looked forward to a new Bronco hockey season. I can't remember the last time I felt excited about any aspect of Bronco hockey. I am now. I can't wait to see how this develops. :D

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Hey Moe. When are you going to start a new thread? How about speculating on the next coach?

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

ELCAsoccer actually mentioned Pearson right off the bat. I had to remind him that Red is not a young man anymore and that Pearson is being groomed for Red's job.

I still say WMU should take a serious look at Mark Osiecki.

But not Poulin. *Definitely* not Poulin.

Re: Western Michigan Season Thread 2009-10

Wow, this took at least four or five years longer than I though it would.

Guess this means I can finally stop screaming: "Hey! Jim! Jim Culhane! Why do you still have a job?! If Western were to pay somebody $110,000 to lose 30 games a year, they should have hired me! At least I would have been entertaining! And I would have probably won more games, too! And your haircut looks like dogs***!"

Good on 'ya, Western. Better late than never?
