Western Michigan 2010 Offseason -- And the next head coach is...

Where did the little southern belle end up?

I honestly don't know what her poor husband sees in her. He must drink a lot.

Why not carry on the CCHA tradition of hiring a Ron Mason protege? (Danton Cole).

It's been suggested (a local writer wrote a guest post on my blog about a month ago). The reaction among Bronco fans was pretty mixed.

Surprising.......I wouldn't think Cole has too much on the down side.

In last Sunday's USHL game between the Green Bay Gamblers and the Chicago Steel, the goalies got into a fight: after the overtime and before the shootout.

Both were ejected and the backups came in for the shootout.

I post this here because the Chicago goalie, Pisellini, is committed to WMU.

Here's a story from a local TV station with video of the fight and sound from GB's coach and goalie:

And Yahoo! Canada sports has picked it up. I think the last paragraph is the best - it has a link to the bat killing incident from earlier in the year in GB.

Interesting how College Hockey News describes Ohio State's downtown arena as an Albatross round their neck and how they need to move to a smaller on campus site to be successful.

It's not downtown, it's on campus...i't s just too big for hockey. Was built for basketball crowds...for hockey you get 5-6000 in there and the place is dead, hard to generate much atmosphere

Three Finalists (So Far)

Brekke, Blashill, Bonnett

Scott Garrow was eliminated from contention because his last name doesn't begin with a 'B'. (j/k)

Interesting subject how come I do not see B.R. from Mich State Staff being part of the discussion he played at Western been in and around all cricles meets the partial Mason rule and wishes to be a head coach.

Just might find out he is in the mix when it is all said and done.

Just saying.

I just read the Gazette's article on it and found the list of people that the athletic department has consulted on the job/program quite interesting. Ron Mason? Tom Anastos? Enrico Blasi? These are huge names.

According to my sources, yes!! Broncos, you have got yourself a new coach. Good luck!

I heard a rumor that Blashill as the next coach was a done deal last Monday, but won't be announced until the USHL regular season is done. Blashill would start his duties at WMU the first Monday after the Indiana Ice are eliminated from the USHL playoffs. Only a rumor though, so take with a grain of salt.

I have three wishes as we head into the next stage of Bronco Hockey. Three things that we lost during the time that Mr. Culhane was the head coach: Pep Band, School Colors, and going to the Joe. How many other division I hockey teams are without a pep band? How many other teams anywhere have uniforms that are not the school colors? How many other CCHA teams have failed to go to the Joe for over a decade?

They're going to have to train a pep band back up from scratch, then. The group they brought in for a few games while I was a student in the early 2000's were woefully incompetent.

I agree. They were bad. Spent most of the time watching the game and not performing. If you watched the regionals or have traveled to other college arenas you've seen how much a good band can add to the fun and atmosphere.
