West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

By the way, Brent, why do you have the most posts in this thread? You are a Goph fan, right? I guess you are locked into the Gopher "TROLL" category.

Hmm ... there is the possibility that Brent is a CLOSET UND FIGHTING SIOUX FAN. What an interesting thought. You should seek a therapist to find out, Brent ....

I like MTU. They have been my "pet" team since around 2008. Kinda like seeing the ugly girl at the end of the bar at 2am and saying to yourself...."eh, why not?" ;)

you must have been smoking the weed in Colorado. A lot of no calls on BOTH sides. When you wrap your arms around a player and tackle them that is a penalty.
If they called every single penalty you guys wanted you'd be on the power play the entire game LOL.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

A bit long-winded, bud. Your post. But ....

St. Cloud, from a purist point of view, should not have even be in the regional. One game over .500? They may perhaps become an example on how you can play poorly or with mediocrity for half or 3/4 of a season, then turn it on. This is not good sport. It, unfortunately, has become an American thing with over half the teams in the NHL, for example, making the playoffs. There is a defect in the pairwise and yes, the Krach, in this regard.

All that said, good luck anyway.

And yet here we stand. If anything, maybe it proves SCSU did belong in the dance. KRACH had us as a top 10 team before the win. Sorry: Simple Match. (copyright Scooby) The rule for an autobid is .500 or better, and we qualified. As a 3 seed no less. And what does letting half the teams in have to do with anything? The NCAAs lets in roughly a quarter, and we finished 12th of 59.

Me thinks he doth protest too much... particularly when you know whose job it was to end our season? Yours. Last weekend in Mpls.

Quoting number of posts? Game, set, match: Brent

And to be fair, EVERY fanbase, at every level of hockey and every level of every sport, has fans that complain about every call not going their team's way.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Yeah, I guess all that matters is W's regardless of who you play. Tell the AD to only schedule cupcakes going forward so the purists are pleased.

The difference between 20+ wins and being one game over .500 are a couple of fortunate bounces if you actually watched this team's season.

And yes, they got some fortunate bounces yesterday. That's hockey.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

You could argue that the two teams that carried play yesterday are headed home, while the two with the better goaltending play today. Although that wouldn't be fair to Tech's goalie, who played well. The OT goal was similar to the Holy Cross goal, and the 0.6 goal. All were blocked by the defense, took a fortunate bounce onto an attacker's stick, and had a new shot angle the goalie wasn't quite able to adjust to.

You could argue that quinnipiac carried play more than Nodak yesterday... You'd be wrong of course, but you could argue it.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

The UND-Q game was much closer than the score. UNDs goalie kept it shutout with some great saves. Pretty even game I thought.

To lose the way we did is just so so frustrating. Dominating the OT and missing two empty nets. I'm sure I'm a lot balder than I was starting the night...

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

St. Cloud State won a first round regional game for the third consecutive year, and fourth in the past six years.

Motzko has built a program that expects to win at the NCAA tournament.

Bring on North Dakota.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

I suppose in the long run, this is part of the learning process. Just frustrating to dominate a game and have that happen.

Every team has losses where after the game you look back and think "how in the hell did we lose that game?" but you just pray it doesn't happen your last game of the year. Tech obviously deserved a better result, they carried the play for a vast majority of the game but they also had some key miscues and SCSU made them pay.

I knew Tech would be a tough matchup but was surprised by how well they played - very impressive. Fortunately for us, Chuck saved our *** and gave us a shot.

Yeah, that first round monkey is clearly off our backs. I've written this team off so many times this year and they continue to find ways to stay in the hunt. So I'm going to write them off again and say we have NO shot against UND tonight. :)

It is th best system in college sports. Not all schedules are equal and the pairwise and KRACH take that into account. People needto use common sense. You see large number of wins from bad conferences all tue time in basketball and then come tourney time they get crushed. If some people can't see schedule matters oh well.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

St. Cloud State won a first round regional game for the third consecutive year, and fourth in the past six years.

This got me thinking, and here are some stats surrounding First Round games since the NCAA Tournament expanded in 2003:

Most wins:
10 - North Dakota
9 - Boston College (could still get to 10 with a win today against DU)
6 - New Hampshire, Michigan, and Minnesota
5 - Miami, Cornell, and Minnesota Duluth
4 - St. Cloud, Wisconsin, and Boston University
3 - Colorado College, Maine, Ferris State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Denver, Yale, Union, and Massachusetts Lowell

Most Losses:
6 - Denver
4 - Ohio State, New Hampshire, Harvard, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Miami, and Air Force
3 - Minnesota State, St. Cloud, Boston University, Maine, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Niagara, and Bemidji State

Best Records: (minimum of 3 games played)
5-0 (1.000) - Minnesota Duluth
3-0 (1.000) - Ferris State and Massachusetts Lowell
5-1 (0.833) - Cornell
9-2 (0.818) - Boston College
10-3 (0.769) - North Dakota
3-1 (0.750) - Union
6-4 (0.600) - New Hampshire, Michigan, and Minnesota
3-2 (0.600) - Colorado College, Michigan State, Yale
4-3 (0.571) - St. Cloud State, Boston University, Wisconsin
5-4 (0.556) - Miami
3-3 (0.500) - Maine
3-4 (0.429) - Notre Dame
3-6 (0.333) - Denver
1-2 (0.333) - Vermont, Quinnipiac
1-3 (0.250) - Bemidji State
1-4 (0.200) - Air Force
0-3 (0.000) - Minnesota State, Niagara
0-4 (0.000) - Ohio State, Harvard

Interesting that Minnesota has more first round losses than St. Cloud since the format change in 2003.

I agree with this above. SCSU deserved to be in the tourney. Congratulations on your win yesterday. You capitalized on Tech's mistakes.

That being said, (haha) I like our team. I felt MTU played a better game overall. The mistakes they made were too big to overcome. I didn't help to not have Blake Pietila in the lineup. What a bummer for him not to be able to play this game.

Best of luck against the Sue! I'm pulling for SCSU now!

Until next year....

Interesting that Minnesota has more first round losses than St. Cloud since the format change in 2003.

But, one of the Gopher fans said we are the experts on first round losses. They have to take that from us, too? Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!!!!

:p:D:D

Actually the program currently with the most NCAA Appearances without a win is Western Michigan (5 appearances, 0-6). We'll see what happens today, but Mankato is also making a hard charge for that title as well...SCSU just can't have anything can they?

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Saw a couple posts about SCSU not belonging in the tournament. Im a Q fan and I like to think of myself as neutral toward every other team (minus Yale of course). St Cloud ABSOLUTELY deserves to be in this tournament and I know UND fans are worried about tonights game. That team is far superior than their record indicates. Numbers wise they had the second hardest schedule but I believe they had the hardest schedule in the country without much argument.

Im a huge proponent of scheduling difficult out of conference games. Q doesnt do it enough. Im a proponent of it because I believe you will benefit from it come tournament time. Looks like St Cloud has although they squeaked by yesterday.

Also wanted to say hell of a season to the Tech fans on here. I hope you guys continue to shine next year. I think its great for college hockey.

Should be a good one tonight in Fargo. Crowd looked great last night.
