Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac
St. Cloud State won a first round regional game for the third consecutive year, and fourth in the past six years.
This got me thinking, and here are some stats surrounding First Round games since the NCAA Tournament expanded in 2003:
Most wins:
10 - North Dakota
9 - Boston College (could still get to 10 with a win today against DU)
6 - New Hampshire, Michigan, and Minnesota
5 - Miami, Cornell, and Minnesota Duluth
4 - St. Cloud, Wisconsin, and Boston University
3 - Colorado College, Maine, Ferris State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Denver, Yale, Union, and Massachusetts Lowell
Most Losses:
6 - Denver
4 - Ohio State, New Hampshire, Harvard, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Miami, and Air Force
3 - Minnesota State, St. Cloud, Boston University, Maine, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Niagara, and Bemidji State
Best Records: (minimum of 3 games played)
5-0 (1.000) - Minnesota Duluth
3-0 (1.000) - Ferris State and Massachusetts Lowell
5-1 (0.833) - Cornell
9-2 (0.818) - Boston College
10-3 (0.769) - North Dakota
3-1 (0.750) - Union
6-4 (0.600) - New Hampshire, Michigan, and Minnesota
3-2 (0.600) - Colorado College, Michigan State, Yale
4-3 (0.571) - St. Cloud State, Boston University, Wisconsin
5-4 (0.556) - Miami
3-3 (0.500) - Maine
3-4 (0.429) - Notre Dame
3-6 (0.333) - Denver
1-2 (0.333) - Vermont, Quinnipiac
1-3 (0.250) - Bemidji State
1-4 (0.200) - Air Force
0-3 (0.000) - Minnesota State, Niagara
0-4 (0.000) - Ohio State, Harvard
Interesting that Minnesota has more first round losses than St. Cloud since the format change in 2003.
