West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

You could argue that quinnipiac carried play more than Nodak yesterday... You'd be wrong of course, but you could argue it.
I'm a Sioux fan, but if you don't think a 73-43 edge in shot attempts is carrying play, I don't know what else to say.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

St. Cloud, from a purist point of view, should not have even be in the regional. One game over .500? They may perhaps become an example on how you can play poorly or with mediocrity for half or 3/4 of a season, then turn it on.

This is not how the PWR works. Please come back after class and show your work.

Veteran hockey fans know yesterday know that 4-1 doesnt tell the story of the game. Now I thought NoDak outplayed Q most the game but we know it was closer than the score. Good luck JK!

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

This got me thinking, and here are some stats surrounding First Round games since the NCAA Tournament expanded in 2003:

Most wins:
10 - North Dakota
9 - Boston College (could still get to 10 with a win today against DU)
6 - New Hampshire, Michigan, and Minnesota
5 - Miami, Cornell, and Minnesota Duluth
4 - St. Cloud, Wisconsin, and Boston University
3 - Colorado College, Maine, Ferris State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Denver, Yale, Union, and Massachusetts Lowell

Most Losses:
6 - Denver
4 - Ohio State, New Hampshire, Harvard, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Miami, and Air Force
3 - Minnesota State, St. Cloud, Boston University, Maine, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Niagara, and Bemidji State

Best Records: (minimum of 3 games played)
5-0 (1.000) - Minnesota Duluth
3-0 (1.000) - Ferris State and Massachusetts Lowell
5-1 (0.833) - Cornell
9-2 (0.818) - Boston College
10-3 (0.769) - North Dakota
3-1 (0.750) - Union
6-4 (0.600) - New Hampshire, Michigan, and Minnesota
3-2 (0.600) - Colorado College, Michigan State, Yale
4-3 (0.571) - St. Cloud State, Boston University, Wisconsin
5-4 (0.556) - Miami
3-3 (0.500) - Maine
3-4 (0.429) - Notre Dame
3-6 (0.333) - Denver
1-2 (0.333) - Vermont, Quinnipiac
1-3 (0.250) - Bemidji State
1-4 (0.200) - Air Force
0-3 (0.000) - Minnesota State, Niagara
0-4 (0.000) - Ohio State, Harvard

Interesting that Minnesota has more first round losses than St. Cloud since the format change in 2003.

Wow fantastic stats! Thank for the work on this.

Cheering for team from NCHC!
:D

So you're the one. I know its two NCHC teams, but you still shouldn't admit to cheering for an NCHC team.

I'm a Sioux fan, but if you don't think a 73-43 edge in shot attempts is carrying play, I don't know what else to say.

You're about to get neg repped by MNS in 5... 4... 3...

Also two more wins and a better win%... Doesn't matter right now though they're still playing and UM isn't.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

And yet here we stand. If anything, maybe it proves SCSU did belong in the dance. KRACH had us as a top 10 team before the win. Sorry: Simple Match. (copyright Scooby) The rule for an autobid is .500 or better, and we qualified. As a 3 seed no less. And what does letting half the teams in have to do with anything? The NCAAs lets in roughly a quarter, and we finished 12th of 59.

Me thinks he doth protest too much... particularly when you know whose job it was to end our season? Yours. Last weekend in Mpls.

Quoting number of posts? Game, set, match: Brent

And to be fair, EVERY fanbase, at every level of hockey and every level of every sport, has fans that complain about every call not going their team's way.

Simple bonehead math. Letting in half the teams is about $$$. Me thinks is actually Methinks, dumb either way. Doth protest sounds like a biblical cliche, jeez. Game, set, on computer too much, Brent. I believe your team will learn a lesson tonight.

We'll see. By the way, the regular season in most sports continues to get watered down. It's all about the playoffs.

Example: MLB: Used to be the two pennant winners, now, 4 teams from EACH league. Other examples can be looked up. I actually think the NCAA has done pretty well to keep the number for NCAA hockey at 16 (so far). I'm not against more teams but think the top ones should have a better shake from the regular season.

Saw a couple posts about SCSU not belonging in the tournament. Im a Q fan and I like to think of myself as neutral toward every other team (minus Yale of course). St Cloud ABSOLUTELY deserves to be in this tournament and I know UND fans are worried about tonights game. That team is far superior than their record indicates. Numbers wise they had the second hardest schedule but I believe they had the hardest schedule in the country without much argument.

Im a huge proponent of scheduling difficult out of conference games. Q doesnt do it enough. Im a proponent of it because I believe you will benefit from it come tournament time. Looks like St Cloud has although they squeaked by yesterday.

Also wanted to say hell of a season to the Tech fans on here. I hope you guys continue to shine next year. I think its great for college hockey.

Should be a good one tonight in Fargo. Crowd looked great last night.

Thanks Al. Loss yesterday still stinging but they done us proud!

Uh, FROM A PURIST'S POINT OF VIEW, son. Not mine. Show me YOUR PhD then you might see mine. Arggh.

Even worse. Five teams, not 4.

Jeez must be easy to get a PhD. I figured any college grad could understand the concept of strength of schedule.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

It's déjà vu all over again.

March 2013 while sitting on the San Diego beach, my cellphone buzzes with text messages about St. Cloud's defeat of Notre Dame. Took my family for lunch to a within walking distance restaurant / bar called Tidewater Tavern to find a place that had ESPNU for the championship game following day. Next day, Easter Sunday, go to the Tidewater Tavern and watch St. Cloud defeat Miami to go to the Frozen Four.

Yesterday while sitting on the same San Diego beach, my cellphone buzzes with text messages about St. Cloud's defeat of Michigan Tech.

Today I'm heading to the Tidewater Tavern to watch the St. Cloud game. Gonna order bean soup to prepare for April!

Cool out. No need to go give everyone negative reputation for saying SCSU belonged

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Congrats UND. Best of luck in the Frozen Four.

Almost a carbon copy of last year's regional final for the Huskies.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

St. Cloud looked like garbage. Players constantly falling down. Awful passing. Missing the net. North Dakota clearly the better team but i dont like their chances against a Boston team that has shown they can put the puck in the net, unlike SCSU.
