West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Where are all of these WCHA fans that were supposedly beating their chests about being a superconference? St cloud and mankato are juggernauts? You certainly seem to have your finger on the pulse of college hockey. You need no more than a mirror to find the d-bag poster.

Your kidding right! Read the board a little more often. Done with this subject. Good luck to all that have teams left playing.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

The worst team in the conference was UAA, and they would have been middle of the pack or better in every other conference this year.
I'm going to humor you and try to treat this supposition seriously. Let's check the evidence using Krach. Now.. I see where you are coming from. If UAA was an independent, they would have finished right in the middle of the pack right below Penn State and just above Alabama Huntsville. If they were in AH, they would have been solidly in the bottom 3rd. Umm... last place everywhere else. Verdict based on the evidence you honor.... The premise is patently absurd.

I'm sure the WCHA teams would love to only have to try half their season, and float through the other half against weak opponents, but that doesn't get to happen. Like I said, turn the tourney into a best out of 5 series, and the WCHA has at least two, if not three teams in the Frozen Four.
Again let's try to look at the evidence here. I agree that if the WCHA were vastly superior then best out of 5 games would show that. If only we could try that. How can we simulate what the impact of 5 game series for a vastly superior league would turn out? Hey wait... I think we can. If the league is so vastly superior and deep, then it stands to reason that the outcome of any one of those top teams in a 5 game series should be about the same as the outcome of 5 of those great teams playing one game each against all of the weaklings from elsewhere. And what does the evidence so far say? Weaklings have clinched the series in 4 games. Oh great and powerful OZ.. how is this possible????

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Except the WCHA fan's teams right?

Yea even them! wouldn't surprise me a bit if UND took Yale to the woodshed. I understand the historical strength of the WCHA. All along this year I have not thought they were the conference others thought they were. The PWR said 6 teams get in so they did. The league was 29-36-3 against the CCHA, HE & ECAC. Top the bottom I thought HE was better this year and the ECAC was better than they have been in the past. Now really done with this subject!

Next year willy, next year Minny & the Big 10 will dominate!

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Yup and when you get 80% of your non conference games at home and nothing in the formula accounts for that, this is what you get. BU and Providence sitting home and over inflated PWR's for WCHA teams getting the crap kicked out of them! Guess this is the last year we need to worry about it. Many more non-league games should even things out going forward.
Wisconsin was an auto-bid. They got the crap kicked out of them. The Gophers lost in OT. Denver was ahead or tied for over half the game and were within one goal until 11:11 left in the 3rd.

So what are you talking about again?

Wisconsin was 14 in the PWR auto-bid or not! The Gophers, kings of the WCHA. Number 2 in the PWR, lost to a 3rd place ECAC team that scored no goals in 2 ECAC tourney games. And yes another WCHA team was within a goal of the 5th place HE team in the 3rd period before getting beat 5-2. What's your point again?

Whoops, thought you were really done. This whole WCHA thing has your panties in a bunch. Don't worry, next year I doubt the WCHA will get six teams in.

What? You're no better than the ****** I posted about last time. Quit trying to take individual situations and apply them to adhere to what you want to prove. Having a 5 game series is NOT the same as having 5 teams play one game series. Not even close. The style of play, competitiveness of the league, and high end talent make the WCHA a meat-grinder year in and year out. Always has been the case. Using UAA's Krach and record this year doesn't do anything for what I said. I said if UAA was in another league they would be in the top half of that league. Not based on how they did against other WCHA teams. I mean playing in a league where only half the games are against quality opponents. The other half you might as well play 5 series against UAH. My point is top to bottom the WCHA has better players and teams than the other leagues. That isn't to say that there aren't teams from other leagues that are better or wouldn't do just fine in the WCHA, but the competition throughout the entire league is higher. Don't try and twist what I say into something else. Maybe read a little more thoroughly next time.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

I am of the belief that the WCHA is the toughest (and best) conference overall this year. But I don't buy for one second that UAA would even be a middle of the pack team in any other conference.

Are we using PWR or conference standings? Because you are mixing and matching to fit your needs. UNH was 5th place? So was Denver. Minnesota were not the kings of the WCHA. St. Cloud State was. Let's let the tournament play out.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Grats to Yale on the win, solid team with good speed.

The yapping by non WCHA fans is amusing, that game could have gone either way, in OT you never know what may happen.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Late to the thread, but great game by Yale, Congratulations!

Had a good game plan and full buy-in by the players. They executed it very well and it worked well for them. Tough, hard forecheck in the Gophers end and fill the shooting lanes in their own end. The Bulldogs hustled their butts off all game and made the Gophers pay for their mistakes.

Good luck today!

I'm sure the Gopher fans would have been humble had the overtime gone the other way.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Some would some wouldnt, just seemed like lots of piling on last night, but whatever by all means continue on.

The "piling on" is because all year (every year) we have to hear about how awesome the WCHA is and how nobody else stands a chance and how our teams don't deserve to be in the tournament. The number of Hockey East and CCHA fans regularly dissing the ECAC and AHA is far fewer thus less rejoicing when their teams are upset.

No horse in this one (other than where i'd rather my son to go to school someday). I was rooting for Yale as the dog but when MN came back expected them to win. Great win in OT and momentum! Enjoy and good luck!!

Great standard to live by: "If you would have won, you would have been boorish and arrogant, so I'm going to be boorish and arrogant."

As long as we're clear about that.
