  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

We're back

As long as that old sub actually kept and you didn't get a random error that the admin didn't allow you to access it, only to have to circumvent the process to unsub and resub.

On the old forum, there were three ways to enter a thread. I could go to the first post; I could go to the most recent post; and i could go to the earliest post which I had not read already. I have not found a way to do the third of these. Is it possible? It is usually what I want to do.

If there is a new post the thread will be bold. If you click on it it should take you to the newest post. (there is also a "Jump to New" toggle on the top of the thread The issue is, in many threads "New" is several pages back because of the migration.

Nicely done! You guys lucked out when another site I go to migrated it took days to configure it the right way. There is a lot of cool features to play around with especially in the "likes" department.

I went through a few test imports over the weekend. The first try took 18 hours, but then I discovered the command line importer. We also had built the server during the semester break and just needed time to free up to make it happen.

I think that you are correct because if you highlight it, it ends with "unread".

Edit: It doesn't do it now. There must be more to it.

Ralph, I was wondering the same thing. I did notice the "Jump to New" button. Like anything else, it will take some getting used to. The only thing I don't see is notifications. It may be because I haven't had one yet, but you used to see a red 1 or 2 or 7 if someone quoted your post.

Testing a reply to see if you get one.

Where is the "Jump to New" button?

Thanks. I can live with that assuming that the fact that it jumps to the wrong post is a figment of fact that the last post read hasn't carried over the change to Xenforo.
I tried it and it works.

You can also just watch the thread and then you will get notifications when there is a new post. If you post in a thread it auto watches it much like subscribing.

Once you have gone to the last post of a thread though it should show up looking different on the main page. That function is the same between the two boards.

I noticed that when I post on a thread (like this one), I get notifications. I am not sure if I want that as the default. I often post on threads to inform a poster of something, but don't to want to know about every post there. E.g., I often post on threads for RPI's OOC opponents but care little or not at all about what happens to them later in the year.

Go to the top of the thread and "unwatch" after you have posted and that should prevent that. If it doesn't reopen the thread and unwatch it.

Thank you Ed and the USCHO staff who keep the lights on and made this possible. The jump to a new forum is refreshing. I know I cut back on my visits to the site under the old format because I was greeted by more "Server is too busy" messages than actual posts.

I am not very smart. Where do I set options? I have to invert the order and see last first or I'm going to hurt myself or others.
I love the new format but I need to tweak.

I think my only complaint is on mobile a thread with multiple pages only has page buttons on the bottom.

Well, two complaints. The second is that it's too efficient! The jump to last actually goes to the last post. I didn't realize how much of a habit I had scrolling down immediately since the old one would usually just load to the top of the last page.
