Welcome folks, to the Biden administration!

Sure. But the purpose is to get re-elected and keep doing a good job, and that means getting your accomplishments for the American people out there, so everyone can hear about them, over and over. It's called messaging

And the Dems are horrible at it.

But getting better. LOLDems is as out of date as LOLMets, and we should no longer perpetuate it.

The Democrats are, slowly, turning the aircraft carrier. The former leadership was older than color television.

You mean like the midterms? The voters knew who did what and why.

If the Dems were still horrible at messaging Biden loses the Senate, way more seats in the House and a lot of state seats and governorships. That didn't happen because the prime don't blame him for most of the problems and are happy he is just doing good boring job and having a tangible impact on their lives.

Outside of the crazy wings of both parties (way more on the Right obviously by large exponentials) people are tuning out of the noise and just looking at the day yo day like they used to and while no one is jumping for joy over Joe they are happy he is president. (Even in the meaningless polls his numbers are rising)

This. The previous version gets curbstomped in the Midterms. These Dems messaged perfectly and avoided the traps the media laid.

Weirdly enough, that is partially on Biden. For all his Grandpa Vibes, he actually thinks younger than most people in our party. Or perhaps he is the last living Democrat BF* who actually has ties to the working class.

* Before Fetterman

I think the working class thing is absolutely correct. The best politicians from Minnesota have been Wellstone and Walz. Both have or had ties to the working class. Hell, even Humphrey was from a very modest background.

Eat it, Nazis.

One of the most successful first terms in American history, and that does not include the first incumbent first termer not to lose an incumbent Senator since the 1830s.

Just flipped on Fox News for the first time in months and it is all crime and critical race theory. Our country has gone to hell since Biden was elected.

It's definitely the second...but the grandpa vibes help too. I mean seriously we are gonna believe that dude is an international criminal boss swinging his dick around for billions? He looks like the dude who has a 5 minute convo about life with the waiter before ordering...

The Happy Warrior was the last dying breath of the New Deal. This country and this world would have been so much better off had he beaten Nixon.

"Looks like"?

There are like five events in my lifetime that would have made the world immeasurably better if they had a different result in order of decreasing importance.

1. Mondale v Reagan
2. Gore v Bush
3. Clinton v Trump
4. Wellstone didn't crash
5. Biden beats Obama - and I think this is a very convoluted one. The others are obvious. If biden had beaten Obama in the primary, I think we wouldn't have ever had Clinton run. Trump would never have happened. Obama stays in the senate and learns the real ropes. I think he gains a bit of an education watching Joe get toyed around with by Mitch like Obama did. Maybe he loses in 2016. Maybe he doesn't. But I think I'd maybe want to take that gamble knowing what we know now. It's also possible this would slide in at #3, but given the complicated and impossible to predict nature of it, I think the others are more impactful.

You could also easily argue that Gore over Bush would be more important than Mondale over Reagan. Bush caused the entire destabilization of the Middle East and we're still paying for that. Maybe less so now, but the GWOT may have never been the multi trillion dollar global fuckup the it ended up being. You might also have never had the Great Recession if Bush lost. We may have even started to combat global warming back in the fucking early 2000s. Which might have already been paying dividends 23 years later.

You could argue Bush Sr led to Bush Jr. So *shrug*. But if we're talking proximate causes, the more I think about it, the more that Gore election was clearly #1.

Yeah I think by 1984 the main Reagan stuff had been passed, so I don't know if that would have made the difference. Plus it wasn't even close, but Gore v Bush was. With Gore we could have made more progress on paying down the debt and shoring up SS; even with the inevitable dotcom bust we could have still put things on a decent track. And not only would the GWOT not have gotten out of control, you may have never had 9/11; the Bush people played dumb anything related to Al-Qeada because they wanted to focus on Iraq, and they view bin Laden as a Clinton thing they wanted to distance themselves from.

Imagine if Clinton had pulled the trigger on bin Laden.

1828, 1865, 1932, 1980 are the hinge points in American history. We won the first three and lost the last one. We are still living in an America dominated by that loss, which has rolled us back well beyond 1932 and begins to look like getting before 1865.

The issues rise and fall like hemlines but the driving force underneath is the same: the concentration of power by elites and its threat to destroy freedom and democracy, and the use of our democratic institutions by the people to break up those concentrations and restore the American promise. 1980 was the first time we failed in an epic contest between democracy and wealth, and it has scarred America for my entire adulthood. The one thing I would really like to see before I die... OK, the other thing... is for America to go 4-1, repudiate that one horrific mistake, and put us back on our course as being a good country with a conscience and a willingness to improve, with good values that encourages all of its citizens and lives up to the values of the Declaration.

Perhaps there is a rhythm to history. The time elapsed to each event has been respectively, 52, 37, 57, and 48 years for a mean of 48 years. 2028 beckons.

Franken? Yeah he was an artist/comedian but I'm pretty sure he didn't grow up with a silver spoon.

It's tough for me with him. You're right, but it's hard to say he's got the working class thing going for him when he's really a media A-/B+ list celeb who went to Harvard (fair or not).
