I have to agree with davyd83 about this move putting NMU on an even footing with the rest of the conference. I see no reason that the Cats couldn't be competing for first place every season. I can see the rivalry with MTU getting ratcheted up about 10 notches now that the games mean something more. I see the tournament staying in Minnesota. Maybe not at the X, but possibly at the Target Center, or some other older/smaller arena.

The League Tournament will be played at a host school. Likely the league champ. It certainly cannot be played at a neutral site as the Green Bay arena can't even draw well for an NCAA game, let alone a conference tournament. Maybe it rotates between St. Cloud and Mankato. St. Cloud has a larger arena with many corporate suites on the way (They are currently going through a $30 million renovation). Mankato seats about 5,000. Good news is the WCHA will have two NCAA tournament bids assured every year. St. Cloud and Northern Michigan should be annual NCAA teams.

It certainly CAN do well in Green Bay. The Gamblers don't have an attendance problem. Wisco/NMU wasn't an attendance problem.
What's the biggest difference between an WCHA Tournament and the NCAA Tournament?
Beer sales. WCHA Tourney would be allowed to sell beer.

One of the few good things about this awful place... Spotted Cow and local cheese! I'd LOVE it to be in GB, but that is completely based on selfish reasons, not on whether it would actually draw people or not

If the WCHA tourny would draw well in a neutral venue, that would be ideal. Green Bay and MSP both seem like they could be good possibilities, although Green Bay would be a more central location for the new WCHA. The big question is whether or not it would draw without Wisconsin playing. You would have a lot of SCSU, Mankato, and BSU alums in MSP, and I imagine a decent number of Michigan Tech alums (based on posters who are MT alums and live in MSP, anyway). Is MSP a major job market for NMU alums?
Hell, that right there is half the reason why a lot of the NCAA regionals can have attendance issues.

There are a ton of Techies here, though. I've even seen multiple cars (ID'd by their MTU bumper stickers/decals) around where I live. Given that I don't remember seeing one of those unless I knew the person (lived/worked in the same general area for about a decade), it could be a solid indication.

Haha oh my god! The conference tournament at the concrete center or the cow barn?! What kind of trophy does the winner get, a toilet seat?! The WCHA will be the only league where the fans wear helmets and hitch up their homes to bring to the games! Baahahahaha
