It will be interesting to see how the UWSP and Adrian do after having a weekend with no games. I think UWSP will be able to make up for it and beat UST, but a UST win isn't that far off either. UWSP losing to UWEC may have only extended their season by 60 mins. I think a focused SNC squad will handle Adrian and the score could be fairly one sided again because of the time Adrian missed (yes both teams practiced during that time, but how focused were they really).
In Maine I think it will be a West vs West Championship for the first time since 2008 when the brackets were set up to make an all East or all West final possible. Even though there are some very stellar records out east, I think the West will continue its recent dominance and one or even two of the semi games could be ugly. In the end I think SNC will be the victors.
After watching the complete dominance of NU (whom you infer should not be in the tourney) over Salem in that period, I'm now a full-fledged proponent of abolishing the AQs, and throwing all 11 bids into Pool C. Should the other two play-in games go as this one is heading (South) - the entire first round is a mockery of hockey. It's akin to awarding "participation" awards in youth sports. Can someone convince my why we shouldn't be watching P'burgh, Trinity, or even Utica tonight instead of this embarrassment? What you should have a bad feeling about is how Norwich backed it's way into the tournament and then got Salem St. as their opponent.
+1 I dont get into the rankings and the whole playoff system to much, as I cannot keep up with the rest of you guys, BUT I have to agree, wouldnt it be nice to watch a Norwich /Platty rematch??Perhaps Fish will be able to settle this once and for allAfter watching the complete dominance of NU (whom you infer should not be in the tourney) over Salem in that period, I'm now a full-fledged proponent of abolishing the AQs, and throwing all 11 bids into Pool C. Because winning a conference tournament, in any NCAA sport in any NCAA Division, provided your conference meets all the requirements, gets you an automatic bid into the tournament. After watching the complete dominance of NU (whom you infer should not be in the tourney) over Salem in that period, I'm now a full-fledged proponent of abolishing the AQs, and throwing all 11 bids into Pool C. In 2008 St. Norbert beat Plattsburgh in the final (Norwich and Elmira were the other finalists) while in 2011 they beat Adrian in the latest all west final. Not trying to split hairs, just making sure the facts are correct. In Maine I think it will be a West vs West Championship for the first time since 2008 when the brackets were set up to make an all East or all West final possible.
I'm an ACC (UVa) undergrad / IVY (Cornell) graduate alumnus who is tired of watching sub-par hockey in the post season. If the "bunch of conferences" are bad they shouldn't be in the post season in a sport with so few participants.Otherwise there are a bunch of conferences which would never get a bid to the tournaments. Those student-athletes would be just like the Ivy League NESCAC in football - regular season and go back to the books.
Your post smacks of elitism. I didn't think you went to a NESCAC institution, did you?
Norwich up 6-1..... I think they may go for the 2pt conversion???

By "full 16 team bracket" I intended to imply that there would be no byes..........................Unless there were byes....
I think the bottom line is we all want to see the top teams, and I can say without a problem, salem is NOT a top team, they did play by the rules and get the aq, but after that, your guess is as good as anybodys......ps i would put the top 6 teams in the SUNYAC in b4 Salem. This system of the AQs isn't unique to just D3 hockey. Look at the autobids in the NCAA bouncey ball tourney. Every once in a while you see the underdog like UVM was a few years ago upset the number 2 seed (Syracuse). But it is less than more. These teams won their conference and do deserve the chance. I would have liked nothing more to see Plattsburgh get an at large bid, but they have no one to blame but themselves. They tanked at the wrong time of year.
