WCHA Thread V

Re: WCHA Thread V

...and, wondering about thoughts on Scanlan and chances for WCHA coaching honors. Strong start. Some hiccups later. Upset wins mixed in.

Re: WCHA Thread V

At UW site, check out Mark Johnson's press conference from today. He got asked about the Of Miracles And Men doc and he got pretty intense and excited (for Mark Johnson) in his responses. He was a bit put off by Tretiak calling the goal he scored at the end of the first period 'soft'. It's nice to see the passion.

He is going to Lake Placid on Saturday for a reunion on the off day between games against St Cloud Friday and Sunday.

Thanks for the heads up, that was a great watch. He really did light up when he was talking about that subject, that was cool to see. If I were an interviewer at that press conference, I would of asked this question: "How do you feel about Euruzione (sp) getting basically all the credit for the win with the attention he has recieved over the years when you scored 2 goals in that game? It almost feels like it was a 1-0 game from that standpoint." That was a neat show to watch as well. I'd love to watch the whole game someday.

The UW women's hockey twitter feed retweeted one from (Mark's son) Patrick Johnson last week: "Watchin 30 for 30 of Miracles and Men w/ my dad. Learned a ton in these couple hours. Pretty cool to listen to what he has to say during it"

I wish Patrick would have shared with us some of what his dad had to say during it :D

Re: WCHA Thread V

You guys always seem to overlook Gardner. Handrahan got her commitment in the summer before he Sophomore year. She has been a top defenseman with the Chicago Mission for the past 3 years and was just on Team USA U18. Having Dunne and Gardner coming in the same year is quite the coup for Handrahan.

A friend of mine just watched game between Eden Prairie and Edina high schools in the section finals. Mentioned #6 on D for Eden Prairie looked great and was hoping she was going to Minnesota. That is Lauren Boyle and she is going to Ohio State also.

will be interesting to see if the MN kids get the rest of the team to play hockey
or the hackey players get the MN kids to play hackey

Re: WCHA Thread V

UMD wins and UND is leading big. Both have clinched home ice for next weekend. Assuming the UND result holds, they will lock in the #3 spot and UMD will be #4.

That said, the 3-6 and 4-5 pairings are still TBD and may not be finalized until Sunday as Bemidji State and Ohio State are still only 1 point apart for the #5 spot. If Bemidji State gets an outright win (regulation or OT, not shootout) on Saturday against Minnesota, they will clinch the #5 seed without being dependent on Sunday's UMD-OSU result.

Re: WCHA Thread V

WCHA Tournament, round one:

Bemidji State @ Minnesota-Duluth

Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Ohio State @ North Dakota

St. Cloud State @ Wisconsin

Could see a couple easily going three games.

Re: WCHA Thread V

I take it that there will be no free live streaming of today's first round playoff games? Can anyone confirm?...can't recall the drill on these.

I believe that is correct. Last year quarters were the regular video for each home team, and WCHA provided free video for the Final Face-off.

This weekends Gopher games are on BTN+ video, which is their normal regular season routine.

Beavers take game one.

NoDak does the same.

The two series I felt most likely to go three games.

So far, right on the money. We get to test that "three game" theory today.

Way to go way out on the limb with that one. :D WCHODR favors UM by more than 7 goals, UW by more more than 4, UND by less than one, and UMD by about half a goal. So I'd say your feeling had merit.

So...that wasn't a bold prediction then?

D a m n! :)

Go Beavers!

Re: WCHA Thread V

Anybody see the Gillanders penalty?

Anybody think she'll have to sit a game next week if they advance?

Re: WCHA Thread V

I just noticed that Scanlon kept both assistants on from the Sertich regime when he took over this year. All three coaches on the staff are BSU alums.

I think the assistants were still under contract if I remember correctly from the press conference when Scanlon was introduced.

Re: WCHA Thread V

As a GWH fan I'm not at all sure I'd rather play the Beavers. Nevertheless...GO BEAVERS!
