WCHA Thread V

Re: WCHA Thread V

As a GWH fan I'm not at all sure I'd rather play the Beavers. Nevertheless...GO BEAVERS!
It's not about who is easier to defeat. It is about who I would rather have in Grand Forks while I'm there.

Re: WCHA Thread V

Anybody see the Gillanders penalty?

Anybody think she'll have to sit a game next week if they advance?

On that note: Anyone know how many additional sanctions the WCHA meted out this year? Seems like I have not heard of it happening

Re: WCHA Thread V

WCHA semifinals:

Bemidji State vs. Minnesota

North Dakota vs. Wisconsin

Who's headed to The Ralph? Predictions?

Boy would it be nice if that Fox Sports channel picked up a game...or three.

Personally, I think we're in for some barn burners all around.

I'm not aware of any others beside McMillen. If something was going to happen to Gillanders, it's a moot point now (note - she did play today).

I'm going.

Right now the interesting case is UW-UND for the third-straight year, and UND has won the previous two. I've heard a lot of folks predicting UND, particularly with them having the home-ice advantage. I'll go Badgers, 3-2.

And Minny, 4-1.

I agree about the TV thing, but FastHockey.com is webcasting all three games for free.

Me too.

Last year the first game was almost over by the time I finally was able to get a sign in to work and I don't know that I was ever able to get signed in again. Their process is less than user friendly, unless they've upgraded it.

If true it reinforces my conspiracy theory that she only got the extra because the WCHA thought it wouldn't matter. That is a crappy reason to rule one way or the other. (BTW - I am not suggesting she did not deserve it, only that I have seen much worse this season and they need attention also. Refs should not pocket the whistle because it might affect the outcome, players should play to not give them a reason to blow the whistle. Same with extra penalties.

Yup! We'll be there.
UW 4 - UND 2
UM 3 - BSU 1
UW 3 - UM 4 (or an MT for 5)

I think UW/UND will be a battle. BSU will do their usual excellent job of building Beaver dams so, while the game will be close, it will not be as exciting. Sunday will be high-speed, intense and a great game. Should be 3 worth watching.

We had pretty good luck with some international stuff but the last time they made it hard to find the free games, had to do some hunt-n-peck. The games had some of the slow/breakup conditions but over all not terrible. You do want to register & try it out before Saturday though.

Re: WCHA Thread V

We'll be there. Bemidji worries me more than UMD would have, but I'm glad the Beavers won, if only to prevent Miller's histrionics in Grand Forks. Predictions: Three 2-1 games with the Gophers on top.

That was my experience as well. Fast hockey being the provider concerns me. I'll have to start fiddling with registration soon.

Re: WCHA Thread V

Having North Dakota and Bemidji in the WCHA playoffs is by no means a lock for a Minnesota, Wisconsin game for the title. I could easily see an upset or two including UND being good enough to have a shot at the title.
Pulled from the Gopher thread...

Despite what one might infer from the standings...I believe the true top four teams in the conference will be in Grand Forks. No cupcakes here. Should be some great hockey.

I managed to get registered with FastHockey this AM. Fingers crossed..

Re: WCHA Thread V

Using the regular season head-to-head win-loss percentages to 'predict' who gets to the championship game and then who wins it (a highly questionable method), I get the following:

Minnesota has about a 53.5% chance of winning the championship, Wisconsin 31.5%, Bemidji 10.5%, and North Dakota 4.3% (with a little lost to rounding).

Re: WCHA Thread V

The sue could very well beat UW. UW's pp is terrible right now (kind of been bad all year) and being 0- on the pp could be the difference. UW also needs to play tight D in front of the net on rebounds.

I don't see Bemiji withstanding the firepower UM brings to the table. UM is clearly the favorite.

Granted, there was a couple of OT events but I believe UW was 3-0-1-0 against UND this year. I expect their superior speed will make them 4-0-1-0 on the year but it should be interesting. The game BSU plays will make their game less fun to watch but close none the less.

I don't know it Badger fans are naturally pessimistic or is you are trying to down-talk the team to keep the opponents from getting bulletin board material. See all the fretting before OSU as an example.

All of those games were in the first half of the year; UND was much more consistent after the Syracuse series when they went to Amsley-Benzie full time in net. UW is still the favorite, but then the Badgers were likely the favorite the last two years as well.

Re: WCHA Thread V

my prediction is:
3-2
2-1
2-1

It’s WCHA award time.
WCHA ROY?
Pannek or Pankowski?
I’m going to avoid that debate entirely and go with Baldwin :p
Adapting to the college game is much more difficult for a blueliner, and it showed early on. But her progress has been pretty steady to the point that people unfamiliar with the team would have a hard time guessing which player is the freshman (and it would be a guess). And given the level of play by the Gopher D, that’s a pretty strong endorsement. It’s tough to stand out amongst that group, but as the season has gone on, her play has often stood out and shined.
But really, you couldn’t go wrong with any of the 3.
My guess/choice for the rookie team:
Schammel-Pannek-Pankowski (I certainly wouldn’t object to Clark or Piazza being named)
Joyce-Baldwin
Sauve

UND is hot right now, UW is warm. They are 4-2 in their last 6 against not so good opposition and the pp sucks. I'm not the sandbagging type, I had UW #1 for a large chunk of the season. The rodent fans are the ones just laying in the weeds.

Re: WCHA Thread V

UND over UW. Amsley-Benzie is the hottest goalie right now, and UND playing tight, physical team D lately.
UM over BSU. UM has the most talent and the best (and most under appreciated) goalie in the league.

UM over UND in the finals, even though I'd like to see UND win and put 3 WCHA teams in the Final 8.
