WCHA Thread IV

I'm HOPING for Kessel. If she can repeat or better her 2012-13 season, it would bode very well for the Gophers' fortunes while signaling that her health was just fine.
Her health wasn't that good when she put up 50 points in 2010-11, 80 in 2011-12, or in 2012-13. As long as she's healthy enough to get on the ice, she'll put up numbers.

50 or even 80 probably wouldn't give her the PoTY, but if she were to match or exceed her 101 point total in 2012-13 I can't imagine the award going to someone else. More importantly, 100+ points would mean that others (esp. her linemates and those on the first power play unit) wouldn't be too far behind, which in turn would help boost the production of the second and third lines' as opponents focus on trying to stop Kessel. It's probably a given she again won't be at 100%, but it would a very good omen for the team's season if that "health percentage" were to equal or exceed what it was in 2012-13.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

BSU's Zuzana Tomcikova shared the PotY award with Felicia Nelson of SCSU in 2010.

So Ann-Renee Debiens has no shot with all the O talent in the league unless she has microscopic numbers the likes no one has ever seen before. Which is possible.

Don't forget she has to face the Gophers four times! :p

You cheeseheads sure seem to be looking to the success of your team on a player who hasn't been on college ice for 1 minute and another who only filled in a few games last year.

I can only speak for myself, but my premise was to go a little out-of-the box when thinking about a potential PotY. The returning players are a fairly known quantity, just not sure who really could take that next step up to a monster year. Nurse was mentioned by someone else and that makes sense.

Pankowski has a big-time resume plus was one of the last Olympic cuts. I don't think it would be a shock if she came in right away and put up big numbers. That's why I suggested her over others. Nothing more, nothing less.

Both their pre-college pedigrees are just about as good as you can get. ARD is Rigsby good, I've seen her play. Pankowski was a Julie Chu cut away from playing in the Olympics. There's way more awesomeness for UW fans to hook our carts to with the other Fr coming in besides Pankowski.

considering I saw that Turnbuull was going to be one of your best players last year before any of you did ....

take a look at the numbers I posted in the Badger thread, has any of the players at the top of the list impressed you with her skill but hasn't quite put up the numbers yet
those numbers reflect a players effectiveness

don't put too much into numbers, but if it supports what your eyes see...

FWIW, last year I was confident Bona was going to be the Gopher who was going to be the one who picked up the slack, so to speak, by the absence of Kessell, although I must admit she exceeded expectations a bit

what I saw in 2011/12 combined with the numbers told me that

Re: WCHA Thread IV

While several returning Badgers are poised for potentially big years (Ammerman, Burke, Turnbull, Nurse, etc), I'll put up Annie Pankowski for the best shot at PotY.
Her play in the first two games of the U-22 series would seem to make her the RotY frontrunner, as CrazyDave posted. She has been impressive. Very poised with the puck.

Presumably, she'll play behind a stronger defense than she did yesterday, because we don't need a microscope to analyze a GAA of 12. And yes, 20 minutes is a small sample size.

WCHA pre-season picks for PotY

Fans around the conference, who from your team ya figure as capable of a PotY season?

If I HAD to pick a couple players, I think Brykaliuk (if Coach Miller would stop putting her on McParland's line), Lacquette, and Stalder will all have great seasons for the 'Dogs. Will be interesting to see whether Stalder plays D or F this season and who Brykaliuk's linemates are

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Looks as though the Buckeyes have their 2014-2015 roster up. I've been unable to post a direct link to the OSU roster page for some strange reason...so just an FYI for anyone interested.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Pankowski was a Julie Chu cut away from playing in the Olympics.

are you sure it wasn't Lindsey Fry?

it is unlikely any of you even saw her play before last weekend. So it seems you people have much more faith in the ability of Katey Stone and Reagan Carey to evaluate talent than I do ;)

in any event, it is good to have optimism about your players, I have no doubt she will be a good one, but WCHA ROY is more realistic, or possibly even national ROY

Obviously ARD played a lot better the 3rd game losing 3-2 in a shootout. Apparently she had a good half dozen eye popping saves from reports I read.

: Any quick takes on Dani Sadek (Lakeville North)

Lakeville North competes in one of the strongest conferences in the state, numerous players have gone on to play D1 from this conference, very tough schedule, LN are pretty much perennial contenders and have been in the state tournament 5 times in the last 11 years, she was their captain, most would say she was their best D.

Sounds great; I look forward to seeing her play. Thanks for the reply.

Anyone else have info on Alex? I do realize that Albertville/Wright County and Lakeville are about as far apart as two places can be, while both being in the MSP area nevertheless. So I wasn't assuming that someone would be familiar with both players. Anyone?
