Re: WCHA Thread IV

Best of luck to SCSU, as long as it's not at the expense of my favorite team. ;)
I dissent. Good naturedly, of course.:)

Everybody's looking to move up. Trouble is, our league's so darn competitive that a single misstep in a game you're "supposed" to win can derail the whole effort.

I can go this far: Here's to hoping the Huskies go undefeated in non-conference play.;)

Re: WCHA Thread IV

OK, how about this:

I can go this far: Here's to hoping the St. Cloud State Huskies go undefeated against Non-WCHA opponents.

All loopholes closed?

Re: WCHA Thread IV

I think so, because the original wording would produce a national champ in St. Cloud.
Although qualifying for the NCAA field of 8 on the basis of regular season record would require lots of WCHA wins -- none of which would be enabled by either version of my "blessing."

Now if you guys are worried Final Face-Off scenarios, let me reassure you: I assumed all along that conference playoffs = conference play. Post-season, yes. But it's still within the conference; only members are eligible. So again, those games would not be subject to the blessing.

Based on the above, we're only talking about NCAA games. Under any realistic scenario, that's 0-2 games per season. And recall that SCSU has never qualified for Women's NCAAs. So to this point in history, the number has always been zero. Small loophole. Still, no league member would want to lose a head-to-head NCAA game to SCSU. So that portion of the original blessing is hereby revoked.;)

Shifting gears: On my second look, I found a bigger loophole. The first version could be read as wishing unprecedented good fortune to Northeastern and UCONN in their games against the WCHA!

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Hey!! For a moment there, I was feeling the love for SCSU!!

For the short term, I am wishing only for some respectability and some improvement. IMO, Eric Rud will make this happen. Don't think the Badgers or the Gophs have to be too worried at the moment--Husky fans are hoping that will happen in the not-too-distant future.

Am looking forward to seeing who will be the assistant coaches. And waiting patiently (?) to see some women that can light the lamp. Don't think the goal lamp bulbs have been changed for quite a few seasons . . . .:(

Re: WCHA Thread IV

I'm getting pretty curious to see those 2014-2015 rosters not yet posted on team websites. Particularly that NoDak roster...for reasons I won't get into. Seems they're always last minute when it comes to having their roster up for the coming season.

The dog days of the off season I s'pose.

They start class in another week, so unless they're expecting a bunch of walk-ons, it should be figured out pretty soon.

WCHA pre-season picks for PotY

From Minnesota I'll go with Bona, Brandt & Kessel as potential candidates. Fairly obvious choices.

Fans around the conference, who from your team ya figure as capable of a PotY season?

While several returning Badgers are poised for potentially big years (Ammerman, Burke, Turnbull, Nurse, etc), I'll put up Annie Pankowski for the best shot at PotY. Purely speculative on my part.

Speculation, but it's not hard to say based on her Olympic team last person cut to say that she'll be a force for sure. Enough to get past the rodent gals, probably not, but here's to hoping so. Nurse could be a monster with a year of experience and improved linemates. Not knowing the PotY history and being too lazy to research it, has a goalie ever won the award?

Re: WCHA Thread IV

I'm HOPING for Kessel. If she can repeat or better her 2012-13 season, it would bode very well for the Gophers' fortunes while signaling that her health was just fine.
