Re: WCHA Thread IV

It appears as though there is free video (and audio) coverage of tonight's UMD vs BC game on BC's website.

Can anyone confirm this?

It wouldn't be the first time that I've tuned in to the home team's site and found that "watch" meant watch the Game Tracker stats or Live Stats when the site previously lead you to believe otherwise.

I believe BC typically has free video coverage. I recall watching a BC game or two last year online, and I don't think I paid for it.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

BC typically has free video for their games, but the only audio is whatever rink noise the microphone picks up from the P.A. or fans -- no announcer. It isn't so bad this season because they have have added a graphic showing the current score, but I watched a game last season and went 10 minutes with no idea of which team was winning. The video feed must be what they show on their video screen in the rink, so every time there is a play stoppage, they show a Conte Forum message, rather than continuing to feed a view of the ice, so if a player just got hurt and is crumpled on the ice, you don't get any idea of what happened with her; did she eventually get up under her own power, or was she carried off. It's far better than nothing, but is nowhere near what Northeastern has.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Final From Friday, October 26th
Ohio State 4
Bemidji State 1

Four Goal Explosion Fuels Buckeye Win
In a span of less than 8 minutes, the Buckeyes bagged four goals and essentially settled the issue. The Bucks started the second period strong and never looked back. With 9:01 remaining in the second, the Beavers starting goalie was gone and the home team had a 4-0 lead. The Buckeye attack was well balanced, with 10 different players earning points.

The other portions of the game were closely contested. Shots were somewhat hard to come by in the first period; eventually each team recorded 8. In the third period Bemidji generated quite a bit of offense, actually outshooting the Buckeyes 12-5. But the Buckeye defense stood firm, and the 3rd period ended where it started: with a 4-1 OSU advantage. Overall, it was a fine bounceback win after a tough weekend in Minneapolis.

Three Stars of the Game: Decidedly Unofficial and Just For Fun

Bemidji State Honorable Mention: Sadie Lundquist
Although Sadie wasn't rewarded on the scoresheet, she was a constant threat while on the ice. Whether winning crucial face-offs, making fine passes or firing challenging shots, Lundquist seemed to be around the puck all night long. An "A" for effort, that's for sure.

Ohio State Honorable Mention: Julia McKinnon
Julia picked up her third goal of the season with a nice tip of a Kari Schmitt slapshot. Positioned in the slot and using outstanding hand/eye coordination, McKinnon picked the puck out the air and redirected it into the lower right hand corner of the net. While the tip may have lacked velocity, it more than made up for it with perfect placement.

#3 Star: Emily Erickson, Bemidji State
Going +1 on the night is pretty good trick when your team loses 4-1. But Emily had the lead assist on the lone BSU goal and remained unscathed on the defensive side of the ledger. On the Beavers' scoring play, Mackenzie Thurston kept the play alive at the blue line. Then Natasha Kostenko swooped in, gathered in the puck and sent a smart pass to Erickson. Emily first charged to the right circle, then curled back into the high slot. Meanwhile, Thurston and Kostenko crashed the net. Erickson's shot from the high slot appeared to handcuff the Buckeye defense, allowing Kostenko to sweep the rebound in for the score. Emily played a fine all-around game, including going 5-0 in the face-off circle.

#2 Star: (tie) Tina Hollowell, Ohio State and Minttu Tuominen, Ohio State
Another game, another GWG. This one came at an especially crucial juncture. After the Buckeyes opened the scoring, the Beavers mounted a furious counterattack. They almost scored the equalizer in a wild scramble in front of the Buckeye net. Then Hollowell emerged from the pile with the puck, and skated the length of the ice. Winding up behind the Beaver goal cage, tangled with a Bemidji defender, she maintained possesion and directed the puck to Tuominen. Minttu stepped back over the endline and a fired a tough angle shot into the right post, banking it into the net. With that goal, the Beavers' dam burst, and the scoring binge was on.

#1 Star: Kari Schmitt, Ohio State
Kari was the dominant player in tonight's game. She was a tough, steadying presence at both ends of the ice. On the offensive end, two strong shots from the left point led directly to goals, earning her a pair of assists. She was the only player on either team to record a multiple point game. On the defensive side she was constantly blunting the BSU attack. As just one example, she won a battle along the blue line for position; forcing a Bemidji offside violation and eliminating a potential odd man rush.

Naturally the synergy she shares with sister Sara Schmitt was once again a key Buckeye asset. So, a tip of the cap to Sara. But tonight top honors go to Kari.

Up Next: Rematch with Bemidji State at 4:07 PM Saturday. 1st Quarter of the Football Game? Three Letters: DVR. See you at the Ice Rink.

If you ever find yourself driving through Cloquet, MN be sure to stop and eat at her father's restaurant. The burgers, onion rings, chocolate malts and the shrimp basket are all highly recommended! :)

You must mean Gordy's Hi-Hat...tremendously good food, I thought. The place was jammed to the rafters when I was there with standing room only it appeared (luckily, after having secured a table). Even considering that it was a Friday around 5-6 PM I was impressed. And equally so with the food...(and prices as I recall).

Did I mention that the food was great?

Highly recommended.

Yep, that's the place. Right on the main north/south drag (Hwy 33). Every time I've been there it's been packed,so it's obviously a local favorite.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

The officiating today in Grand Forks was awful. Let's set aside my disagreements with them on penalty non-calls and look at something that ought to be truly embarrassing to the league. For the second time in two weeks a linesman blew the whistle for icing after his partner had declared the play good. Now, I'm not sure that the one today should have been waved off by the trailing official, but it was. I can't think of any good excuse for not watching whether or not your partner has his arm up in the air. It's now happened twice in the last five periods I've watched.

Hey, Shep, stop worrying about whether your kids have jobs and start worrying about whether your employees can do their jobs.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Could someone take a look at the USCHO stats page and tell me if it's fubared for you as well?

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Final From Saturday, October 27th
Ohio State 10
Bemidji State 1

Power Play Provides Power Surge
For the second night in row, goals came in bunches. This time, the fireworks began in the latter part of the first period. In a span of 6:20, the Buckeyes scored three goals in rapid fire succession. The top power play unit accounted for all three tallies. With the second unit adding another in the middle stanza, the Buckeye Power Play finished the night at a smoking hot 4 for 4. Conversely, the Buckeye Penalty Kill was also perfect, keeping the Beavers scoreless at 0 for 4. When you win a game 10-1, an awful lot of things go right. But when the outcome was still in doubt, special teams were at the heart of it all.

Once again the scoring was well balanced, with 13 different players earning points. Under these circumstances, it's going to be impossible to extend recognition to everyone who deserves it. But I'll give you a list of Buckeyes with noteworthy accomplishments. Just keep in mind they're representing a number of equally deserving teammates. As for Bemidji, we all know they're a much better team than the final score suggests. But this is a game the Beavers will likely just want to forget. I won't "paddle against the current" trying to find silver linings for BSU.

Three Stars of the Game: Decidedly Unofficial and Just For Fun

Honorable Mention: Sara Schmitt, Ohio State
Last night sister Kari got top honors; tonight Sara proved she also has a heavy shot from the point. A goal, an assist and tons of solid defense earns Sara the mention.

#3 Star: Melani Moylan , Ohio State
Melani scored her first goal as a Buckeye with a well placed blast from the slot into the lower left hand corner. The all-freshman goal was assisted by Bryanna Neuwald with a centering pass, and Kendall Curtis who carried the puck into the zone and took the initial shot. A warm welcome to Ohio State for all three of the new Buckeyes!

#2 Star: Taylor Kuehl, Ohio State
Ordinarily a hat trick merits a top star. In this case, the decisive goals came earlier. But Taylor scored both the 4th and the 6th goals, going a long way toward sealing the deal. By the time she completed the hat trick on the 9th goal, the game had been decided. But all throughout the game Kuehl had great chemistry with linemates Ally Tarr and Danielle Gagne. The trio seems to specialize in close range shots and second chance opportunities, and it's effective. Tonight Kuehl had the finishing touch. But note that Tarr and Gagne both had three point nights.

#1 Star: (tie)Hokey Langan, Ohio State and Annie Svedin, Ohio State
Top honors go to the top power play unit. We'll let Hokey and Annie carry the flag. On a 10 goal night, it's appropriate to single out the top point producers. Langan had a four point night and finished at +2. Svedin had a three point night and finished at +3. Note that the plus/minus stat doesn't include the power play tallies, so these players participated in a ton of scoring.

Hokey both opened and finished the carnage. Her goal came first. Playing the off-wing on the power play, she received a cross ice pass in the right circle. After briefly cradling the puck, the lefthander sent a rising screamer into the upper right hand corner. As the game was winding down, her perfect outlet pass sprung Paige Semenza on a breakaway. When Paige also nailed the upper right hand corner, the Buckeyes hit double figures.

Annie earned a place on the scoresheet on all of the first three goals. Her sizzling rocket from the high slot, the second goal of the game, proved to be the game winner. After being repeatedly being fed near the blue line by Langan and Tina Hollowell, Svedin finally teed up the puck and let it rip. Good choice; great result.

Nice sweep for the Buckeyes! Nice to see so much offense being generated! It's not to soon to start focusing on St. Cloud State....
We have gone in flat there the last few years and had a very hard time! With that being said this is a very different Buckeye team....
Let's keep it going Bucks! It's the WCHA and nothing is given it is all earned!
