Re: WCHA Thread IV

Sorry for the error; don't know why I was thinking Grand Forks instead of Duluth! Anyway, good luck in Bemidji! :)

Thanks. We need to get back to winning. Otherwise, we slip into 5th place. It's up to our coaching staff and team. They can do it. They just need to realize that it is the second half of the season and other teams have stepped it up. They need to step it up also. :)

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Sums up the East Bias well, also.

It really doesn't do anything of the sort. Like a lot of things John Gilbert writes, it cherry picks the things that support his argument and completely ignores the things that don't. His claim of eastern bias relies upon looking at two games, both ties. In much the same way, his complaint about UMD still being ranked behind Wisconsin ignores an important element: scheduling. They may be tied for second place, but Wisconsin has played both Minnesota and North Dakota; UMD has played neither. It should be noted that all of the computer rankings (KRACH; RPI; Rutter) systems have UMD almost exactly where they are in the poll; those could all be wrong but they are not biased.

In much the same way, the focus on UMD's ten game unbeaten streak really ought to mention that six of the eight wins came against the WCHA's bottom two teams. That's what makes a comparison to Minnesota's record over the same stretch somewhat ridiculous. I don't doubt that UMD is better now than they were in early November. However, Wisconsin is, too. Gilbert tries a sleight of hand in which he wants us to judge UMD by what they've done recently and Wisconsin by their whole season.

I'm hoping for a good series this weekend and I don't expect the Bulldogs to be pushovers. However, this is not the first time that Gilbert has shown himself to be deeply in the tank for Shannon Miller.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

I guess summarize was a poor choice of words. But insight, yes. In no way do I think UMD isn't ranked where they should be, per say, but I do believe there are some major flaws that have been hashed out on these forums a number of times before.

Yeah. My problem isn't with you; it's with Gilbert and it's longstanding.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

This is getting interesting. Ohio State's win in Bemidji combined with UMD's loss and UW sitting idle has yielded a three-way tie for the 2nd position in the conference. The Buckeyes and Bulldogs play again tomorrow, while the Badgers are sitting back and watching.

I may have to break out the tie-breaking criteria again for determining playoff seedings.

Somehow, though, the league's initial press release recapping tonight's Gopher-Bulldog game had Kayla Black playing for the Gophers. Ummm... yeah... and those are the folks who should have half a clue.

Actually, we are playing the Beavers this weekend. :D

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Despite being in 5th this morning, it looks as though North Dakota may actually be in the best position as far as finishing second goes. Wisconsin has an easier schedule with only two games left versus the top five, but UND has greater control of its destiny. The key for the Whioux figures to be the trip to Duluth.

Good foreshadowing, ARM. With today's 8-2 over Minnesota State, combined with losses by UMD and Ohio State, North Dakota is now in second in the WCHA standings.

We'll see what happens in the remaining 3 weeks. I don't have the energy right now to figure out the 3-way tiebreaker scenario, especially since it probably won't be tied when all is said and done.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

UMD, NoDak and OSU now have 10 losses, Wisconsin has 9. None of them look like contenders for the NCAA tournament but one of them probably will make the field.

Three weeks to go.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Coming up in the WCHA:

Minnesota @ Ohio State

Wisconsin @ St. Cloud State

Minnesota State @ Minnesota-Duluth

Bemidji State @ North Dakota

Re: WCHA Thread IV

First ever sweep for UND in Mankato. Over 40 shots in each game. Jacobsen had a hat trick in EACH game. Karv is on fire. UND moves to 2nd place in WCHA and now is 8th in Pairwise. JLam is 3 pts from being the ALL-TIME WCHA LEADING SCORER! Sorry fellas
