Re: WCHA Thread III

Congrats to the freshmen rewarded this week and I see another from Minn., Terry was nominated as Offensive Player of the Week.UM is hanging in there with 3 in the top echelons of WCHA scoring and +/-results.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I agree with last post.

I've seen all the teams and in a nutshell this is how I see it.

#1.Wisc. Top player in Hillary Knight and very strong supporting cast.

#2.UMD I feel plays the best team concept they work the puck the best left to right back across etc.

#3. Minnesota. Very strong young players and a few strong upper classmen. Can beat anyone. Might need to mature a little. Can also be beat.

#4 ND. I think OSU can also be put here as both teams are similar. Love what the twins have brought to the table. (didn't play OSU's Spooner). Deeper than I thought.

#5 OSU. Could be #4 if not for the games missing Spooner (MSU, ND) probably would have one the 2 at MSU. 2 lines deep with her and only 1 without.

#6 Bemidji. Love the goalie and can beat anyone with her in the nets.

#7 MSU. Getting better every game.

#8 SCSU??? Can't believe the missreads by the coaching staff. Could have their pick of top players Minnesota doesn't take.

I think people tend to underestimate BSU beyond "Z". They beat Mercyhurst w/o her in net, so the rest of their kids deserve some credit. The Cody/Lundquist/Erickson line is a legitimate #1 line as compared with any team in the league -- they dominated at times when UM played there. They've gotten faster and better with the puck, particularly on D. I estimate that they'll stay in front of OSU, and they still have a good shot at moving up. BSU is only a point behind Minnesota, plus three behind UND with two games in hand. Home ice in the WCHA quarters is a real possibility.

tOSU has 8 home games remaining, but they are all against the top 4 teams in the league. That's great if you win them, but if you don't, it's hard to make much of a push in the standings. There could be a lot riding on their final series in Bemidji. The other key series that last weekend is UM at UND.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Yes, I also feel it will be hard for OSU to overtake BSU. I was giving my opinion as to the raNkings of teams.

I also like BSU's top line and have mentioned Cody before as being underestimated. Solid after that. I just feel ND and OSU have 2 top lines and so the edge.

MSU also has a nice top line.

I'm not sure what this means....can you expand/explain?

For one thing, I didn't even know the Jackrabbits had a hockey team.....

Thanks Boomer that is what I meant. I hope they can turn it around soon.

Could they really? Seems like it's not that easy for the SCSU staff to me and the competition for those players is pretty stiff. With MSU, OSU, UW and now UND, as well as programs outside the WCHA being formidable adversaries in those recruiting battles.

Edit: I think I understand what you mean by "misreads" and would have to agree in a couple instances.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Have you seen the rink they play in? Facility pretty nice. The twins just arrived and what Minnesota girls chose that school?

I think they could have their choice of some pretty nice players with how deep the pool was in Minnesota the last couple of years. I do feel Minnesota girls would rather play for SCSU than schools like Niagra, Maine, Uconn, Vermont, MSU, BSU etc. and even UMD because they don't recruit many Minnesota kids.

There's three from Warroad headed to Grand Forks that I'm aware of. Piché, Loken...Ketcher there now. I've seen both the NHC and REA. Not sure which facility you're referring to. I don't know what the twins have to do with a discussion of recruitment of Minnesota kids, I'll confess.

I don't think they've done all that poorly, again, when you factor the competition there is for the players in question. (that don't end up in Maroon & Gold), but I'm looking back beyond just the last couple years / recruiting classes. I have no idea or intel on choices made by those that don't ultimately land on the SCSU Husky roster...but I'd be willing to bet that for a considerable number of those at UW, MSU, UND, OSU, HE, ECAC and CHA programs...or those that have gone through those programs, they had reasons of their own and it's not merely a case of bungling by the SCSU staff.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I don't mean to argue with you. Just stating my opinion. My statement with the twins was before they came ND didn't seem to have top minnesota girls want to go there. I think their rink is pretty nice.

Haven't done that poorly they're 0-18 which means they probably missed out on the last 1-2 recruiting classes.

O for the season would mean "doing poorly." The recruiting for the past four years has been suspect, to say the least. -------------The streak is in jeoprody today against the improved Beavers.

Can goaltender Ashley Nixon get a purple heart, or at least some kind of ribbon for her plight??
